A Uni ed Butler County needs your help.

Your nancial help is requested in order to successfully execute Phase II of a multiphase e ort that will develop and implement a plan for community and economic development for Butler County. The goal of the plan is to improve the economic and business climate in the County. The plan will achieve this through a comprehensive work program focused on improving communications and cooperation, while promoting community and economic development and capital investment in the County. The nal outcome will be a published plan that will identify the community and economic development vision and goals for Butler County. Building Upon Previous Work and Success
In 2009, Phase I of the plan was completed by a task force appointed by the Butler County Board of Commissioners. The task force of Phase I was composed of public and private stakeholders in Butler County. It is the goal of the Phase II scope and work plan to implement the recommendations from Phase Is outreached and best practices review.

The full potential and benets of Phase I will not be seen until Phase II can be completed. Building upon the work that has been previously accomplished, once the Phase II study is complete, it will develop a sustainable process that ensures the network of public, nonprot, and private business organizations are all working together towards a county wide vision of community and economic growth. We will be to develop a community and economic development plan and vision for the County and recommend a permanent organizational structure that will be dedicated to the implementation of the plan and coordination of the community and economic initiatives and investment within the County. Community and economic development is made up of an interrelated fabric of community assets that are leveraged and work together to improve quality of life we must focus and direct our eorts at these assets in a planned way. Funding is needed to complete the phase II scope of services, stakeholders in the community have already committed their time and support. We now need your support.

What we've been working on:

In 2009, Phase I of the plan was completed by a task force appointed by the Butler County Board of Commissioners that developed a strategy to complete a community and economic development Plan for Butler County. The working task force was make up of many dierent organizations/stakeholders including: Butler County Commissioners, Butler County Community College, Butler County Chamber of Commerce, Butler County Community Development Corporation, Butler County Tourism, Slippery Rock University, Butler Health System, NexTier Bank, Iron Mountain, Mine Safety Appliances (MSA) , Quality Life Services, Butler Eagle, Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Karns City & Seneca Valley School Districts, VA Medical Center, Keystone Ridge Designs, Inc., Clinton Township The Result: Using stakeholder outreach and a best practices review, a key set of recommendations was developed by the task force to take the next step.

Where we want to go:

We will continue to build on the work and cooperation established to date in phase I. The overall objective is to coordinate and improve the community and economic development climate in the County We intend on improving the climate by focusing on how we can create and retain jobs and how we prioritize and invest in capital assets in Butler county We will do this by developing a community and economic development plan for the County and then work hard to implement the plan The plan developed as part of the Phase II eort will: Establish a process for coordination and cooperation of stakeholders so as to speak with one voice regarding county investment needs with State and Federal ocials Establish a process to prioritize and advance an approach for critical infrastructure investment in the county (such as roads, broadband, sewer & water, pad ready business and industrial parks, etc.) Help business recruitment and retention activities Formalize a business support infrastructure The project has already received the support and endorsement of the County Commissioners and many local government and private business entities Phase II of the plan will be overseen by a steering group tentatively being called Unied Butler County (UBC), which will be made up of key public, private, institutional, and nonprot stakeholders throughout the County.
