UTILITY LINE LOCATOR

DESCRIPTION:
Locates, and marks the location of subsurface utilities in order to prevent accidental damage or disruption of service. Locate and mark existing underground infrastructure including: natural gas, water, wastewater lines, water, storm water collection system, streetlights, and trafc signals.

Duties:
Responsible for using locating equipment and hand tools Responsible for locating underground facility lines often digging to expose them Create reports of where underground utilities are located

SKILLs:
Knowledge of basic construction and maintenance materials Able to follow written and oral instructions, understanding blueprints, working in a crew Perform simple mathematical calculations Ability to solve problems

EDUCATION:
Some experience as a general construction worker is helpful Completion of high school On the job training is provided

OVER THE NEXT 2 DECADES 40% OF NEW JOBS WILL BE IN SKILLED TRADES AND TECHNOLOGIES

SALARY: $30,000 to $52,000

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Construction Craft Workers are multi skilled trades people who prepare, excavate, backll, and clean up a work site. This program will provide Level 1 and Level 2 in-school training for the Construction Craft Worker trade. Apprentices will learn safe practices and procedures and gain blueprint reading and worksite communication skills. They will learn procedures for handling equipment and tools safely and for handling construction materials on site. Learn procedures for assembling and dismantling scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, formwork and barricades at construction sites to industry standards of practice and occupational health and safety standards.

THE FOLLOWING ARE 3 SIMPLE WAYS OF GETTING STARTED IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY:

You can begin by applying for a job directly in the Civil Construction Industry. Once you begin working with a Construction Company or Contractor you will quickly gain the necessary skills needed to advance yourself through in-house, work-as-you-learn training. You can enrol in a University, Community College or a Private Technical School to study and prepare yourself for a Career in Civil Construction. All of this information may be found through our website. You can get started through an apprenticeship program by combining on the job training with technical in-class training gaining experience and increased responsibility. You can work in the industry, get paid and work towards earning credits.
