OBJECTIVES

At the end of this lab, we are able to: Used the CMM machine to measure and calibrate the specimen given. Demonstrate and operating manual the CMM machine in manual mode. Analyze the equipments capability, accuracy and precision through results of measurement. Identify the error that occurred besides eliminated the factor that contribute to the error.

INTRODUCTION
CMM is typically used to generate 3-D points (x,y and z axis) from the surface of a part. Its digitizing a part in three dimensions. However, it is often used to make 2-D measurements such as measuring the center and radius of a circle in a plane, or even one-dimensional measurements such as determining the distance between two points. Typically, CMMs are configured to measure in Carteesian coordinates. There are also CMMs that measure in cylindrical or spherical coordinates. They can measure any part surface they can reach.CMMs are manual or automatic. In manual mode, the CMM is moved by the user. An automatic CMM is typically actuated by electric drives. Articulated-joint CMMs look very much like six-degree-of-freedom robots, and are almost always manually driven.

EQUIPMENT/APPARATUS
Coordinate Measuring Machine with single sensor, Wenzel, LH54 Test piece 1:refer to drawing and data Block

PROCEDURE
1. Turning on the CMM machine 1.1. Turn on Air Compressor (min 6 bar). 1.2. Turn on computer. 1.3. Double click WPC tools. 1.4. Click Load Firmware to WPC and wait for 4 to 6 min to download data to controller. 1.5. Press Servo On to activate the servo. 1.6. Click Run the program. 2. Calibrate the probe 2.1. At the main menu click Probe. 2.2. Select Calibrate Probe System. 2.3. Click Measured Points. 2.4. Click Number of Points. Minimum six (6) points. 2.5. Used the joystick to select the points. 2.6. Give the number/ID to the calibrate probe. 3. Measurements 3.1. At the main menu, select Data. 3.2. Select New workpiece. 3.3. In the main function menu, select Geometrical Measurement. Diameter measurements 3.4. Click Circle. 3.5. In Number of Points select minimum six (6) points. 3.6. Used the joystick to select the points. 3.7. Repeat step 3.3 to obtain two (2) circles. 3.8. Record the diameters of the circles. Length, Width and Thickness measurement 3.9. Click measured line/plane.

3.10. In Number of Points select minimum four (4) points. 3.11. Select one (1) side length/width/thickness of the test piece. 3.12. Used the joystick to select the points. 3.13. Take note on the operations number recorded by the CMM at the result display section. 3.14. Repeat step 3.9 for another side of the test piece. 3.15. Click Feature determination at the main function. 3.16. Make sure the result display section showing the current line measurements. 3.17. Click Distance between element to get the dimension. 3.18. Record the reading.

DISCUSSION
The comparison of measurement result between CMM single probes with CMM multiple probe are slightly difference from each other. Based on the our result, we had compare with the appendices that given. The result that we get more better and precision than appendices. That cause CMM with multiple probes have better performance and ability to measure side to side of the critical part of the specimen. By the way CMM with multiple probe are better in measurement results. The factor that may contribute to measurement errors is the static error, where the machine have any damage or breakdown at a sentence part the problem may be occur. The condition of the probe sensor also may be affected the measurement result. The probability that we used old probe sensor may be not hundred percent functioning thus affected the measurement result. Another factor is by human error, where they not focus during measured. To get the accurate result of measurement, the machine must be get the maintenances to make the machine works properly to reduce or eliminate the measurement error. For the probe sensor to avoid this problem the probe sensor must be change after a specify time. That will make the probe sensor hundred percent works. The reading must be taken several times to get the average value that is the most accurate by difference person. To reduce the human error, we must follow the instruction and the precaution.

CONCLUSION

As a summary, we had able to perform calibration before measurements. We also had compare the measurement taken from single sensor and multiple sensor. We had demonstrated and used CMM in manual for measuring geometrical properties.lastly, we had identified the error that occurred besides eliminated the factor that contribute to the error.
