Here is the Players league chart after the match against top of the league Almondbury Lib at Denby

on Saturday 16th August which we lost 4/12 since we had 4 winners to their 8 and we lost on aggregate
172/219, we last played them on our 4th match on 3rd May at Kirkheaton, on that occasion we had 5
winners and lost 11/5

Despite changing the table last week in an
attempt to keep The Knight Rider at pole
position there is nothing I can do this week to
save his fall to number two.
However only 3 aggregate points separate
Magyar and The Knight Rider, if Magyar wins
his next match for example 21/10 and Knight
Rider wins 21/7 then The Knight Rider will be
back at pole position again.
It is however as Captain Picard said to me, its
not about individual scores but about the synergy
of the team, I had to look up what he meant, so
here goes…
Sometimes, although not often, team members
function so well together that their output
significantly exceeds what the same individuals
would have achieved working on the task non-
collaboratively. This is called "synergy."
Team members often describe in ecstatic terms
those rare times when the team really gels and
synergy is produced. Everything begins to fall
into place in an apparently effortless, seamless

fashion. Team members are able to anticipate
the needs and actions of their fellows, often
without specific verbal communication; and
their spirits soar.
I personally felt a great deal of this “synergy”
last week at Elland but, this week at Denby Dale
I think a number of us felt it was distinctly
lacking.
The Eskimo was most severely affected by this
lack of encouragement when he came off from
the green having been beaten 21/3.
He said that he tries his best to shout and
encourage his fellow team mates to the best of
his ability but when he was playing there was
virtually no support or encouragement what-so-
ever.
He added that he has never had a “3” before and
that to become a bowling master you needed to
experience every score from winning 21/0 to
losing 0/21 and all the scores in between, he can
now tick off losing 3/21 in his notebook and now
only has 6 scores yet to get though he did not
elaborate further which scores they were.
He said he was very surprised not to get any
support from his fellow Thursday night Rabbits,
especially Rolf and TB.

The Scores from our previous match against
Almondbury Lib back in May at Kirkheaton.
Comparing the two tables above and its strange
how Tonto Jnr. Can take on the same bloke and
one time thrash him 21/3 and another time lose
against him 20/21.
Similarly “G Haigh” who seemed invincible to
The Eskimo allowed TB to score eight against
him and the “A Stephenson” who I scraped just 9
with this time, was in turn beaten by The Eskimo
back in May.
Could all this be explained by the apparent lack
of synergy in our team this week at Denby Dale?
Could it be we were psyched out by Almondbury
Lib’s domination of the Bamforth cup that we
got our bottoms smacked?

I personally in my match which was again at
position No8 against A Padgett performed what I
thought was a dreadful bit of bowling and also it
seemed that no matter what I did it went wrong,
indeed Moggy afterwards joked that it was like
being married.
Even has the drugs kicked in on the 7th end (Capt
Picard has started giving us rabbits a little yellow
pill each at the beginning of the match) when I
was 7/0 down and panicking I only managed to
score 6 while Mr Padgett lengthened his lead to
9.
Denby Dale’s green seemed quite awkward, it
used to be a favourite of someone we all knew in
the Sellers All Star days as “All But Smithy”, he
knew every little bit of the terrain, but for the
likes of me it was very difficult if you did not
follow the exact line of the jack.
Mr Padgett soon found his favourite mark and
when I did get the block back I did my classic
mistake and bowled it off again, I finished with
21/9 equalling the scores of Moggy and Happy.
TB who confesses to be getting right into his
textbook “Bowling for Dummies” finished with
double figures of 11.
His opponent A Stephenson did not however
share TB’s strange sense of humour since at one
end when TB had the jack, Happy shouted to
take his opponent somewhere else.
TB said to his opponent “Do you like
Blackpool?”
“Why is that?” asked Mr Stephenson with a
frown
Our Captain who confessed to have failed to
provide the Eskimo with a pink pill seemed to
have come back from the comatose this week
easily winning 21/10, his bowls were like
magnets for the jack even on the unpredictable
green which seemed to have a mind of its own.
Picard swept straight into the lead 6/0 and then P
Martin scored two ones and two twos bringing it
to six across and another one made it seven.
I may be mistaken at this point, but I must admit
that the observation was shared by TB and Rolf
Harris, the captain it seems took one of those
yellow pills and his bowls took on the attraction
to the jack unlike natural forces but forces sent
out by picards mind was in control.
He flew into a 18/7 lead in a run of five 2’s and
two ones in a row.
The last five ends saw Picard come off
victorious winning 21/10 and taking seconds on
the sweep to Magyar our brand new No1.
Both me and good buddy Happy who I think get
on better now we aren’t both institutionalised by
Sellers, well we both scored 9. Happy was
telling Goulash how I got into computers and I
said Sellers had kindly paid me to go on day

release and do a computer programming course
at HNC level back in 1994 which had been more
use to getting me another job than my ill fated
Physics degree was back in 1990.
“Especially” added Happy almost continuing my
sentence before I had time to pause for another
continuation of my life story “especially when
they gave him the chance to put it to the test 6
years later by paying for him full time release
this time”.
I had now focused my attention on The Knight
Riders game he was leading 5/0 but his opponent
“D Martin” had just scored and now after
another round The Knight Rider giving everyone
that angry look he then let him have another two.
I could now see even the top players screwed up
on this most difficult of greens he then lurched
back into the lead after letting his opponent have
5 and pulled his way up to 12 with bowls that
somehow compensated for the bit of knowledge
he had learned from the greens terrain.
It was on the 18th end when the score was 18/6
that D Martin could get back in again and has his
score climbed to 9 “The Knight Rider” started
loosing his cool with Bimbo who had bowled his
jack where he wanted to bowl it.
Our Captain who as well as having to be
interviewed by me every couple of minutes had
to try and calm fiery KR down, he shouted
