ZERO EMISSION HOUSE

This system has been configured to power an average Indian home which has an electricity bill of around Rs 1000 / month assuming 1 Kwh costs Rs 5....The 1000 W solar panels working between 9 am to 5 pm in 8 hours can capture 1000x8= 8 Kwh / day approx. It consists of the following 1) 1000 W of solar panels - These would take approx 10 sq meter of area and would convert sunlight into electricity...Cost Rs 1,15,000/ approx. 2) 2 KW GRID TIE SOLAR INVERTER - This inverter will first take the DC current from the solar panels and convert in into a 220V AC supply and give it directly to power your appliances....any excess current available is used to charge batteries and any further surplus availabe is exported to the grid....its first priority is solar panels, next priority is batteries and last option is grid...at night it allows electric current from the grid...also this inverter is MPPT enabled so allows the solar panels to work at their best efficiency...the inverter efficiency is >90%... The 2 KW inverter would allow adding another 1000 W or 1 KW of solar panels at a later date...For more details on this inverter please visit our ebay listing titled - SOLAR INVERTER 2 KW......The 2 KW Solar inverter would cost approx Rs 75,000/. Also, while we recommend a 2 KW Solar inverter, with 1 KW solar panels, to allow addition of 1 KW more of solar panels worth around Rs 1 lakh at a later date we could also give a 1 KW solar inverter costing Rs 45,000....so it saves your Rs 30,000 on this purchase and if you decide for a 1 KW inverter with 1 KW solar panels your cost will be Rs 1,70,000....however, a 1 KW solar inverter cannot support air conditioners....

COMPULSORY ADDITIONAL INVESTMENTS This system requires a min 4 , 12 V 100 - 150 Ah batteries to allow the solar inverter to function smoothly....these batteries are best sourced

from your local supplier....if you want us to supply the batteries the additional costs will be around Rs 50,000...

OPTIONAL ADDITIONAL INVESTMENTS 1) Structural support to fix solar panels - You could simply lay the solar panels on your roof and wire them to a charge controller but on a slant roof, channel support for the 100W x 10 solar panels would be needed...this would involve local level fabrication work...cost likely to be between Rs 5,000 - Rs 10,000... 2) Additional 2 KW inverter + 12V x 150 Ah battery x 4 pcs - The batteries being used with the solar inverter are being subject to a daily chargedischarge cycle and likely to fail in 2-3 years....an additional normal 2 KW pure sine wave inverter with 4 pieces , 12V, 150 Ah batteries are recommended.....these batteries will be subject to use only when there is no sunlight available, the solar inverter batteries have exhausted and grid supply is also not available....since this set of 4 batteries will be subject to use only as a last option they are expected to last 7-8 years....they will also ensure a 24 hour electricity to the home, even if power supply from solar panels or grid is not available for upto 3 days...sealed maintenance free batteries are recommended as they don't need water monitoring....no danger of acid spill or fumes....normal liquid acid batteries are around 25% cheaper but need water monitoring and need to be installed outdoors....the 1 KW solar panels can generate some 4-5 Kwh of energy everyday.....discharging batteries to only 30% depth of discharge level means a 4 x 3 = 12 Kwh battery bank will be needed....a 12V , 150 Ah battery stores 12x150 = 1800 Wh or 1.8 Kwh....8 such batteries can store some 14.4 Kwh which should thus be enough.... The lower the depth of discharge the longer the battery life.....this additional inverter and 4 batteries would add to the cost by Rs 50,000. We cannot supply batteries from our place. Please source it from your local supplier. Also, a 5 KW x 4 hour = 20 Kwh VRB (Vanadium Redox Battery) with a 25 year life of 10,000 cycle costs Rs 10 lakhs...after 25 years the membrane replacements would cost around Rs 3 lakhs as the tanks, electrolyte suffer no degradation in performance...this means Rs 13 lakhs for a 50 year battery....

3) Battery Equalizers - To maintain equal charge levels in the battery banks 2 battery equalizers would be needed....This would add to the cost by Rs 7,000. 4) Automatic solar panel cleaners - This technique moves a mechanical arm over the solar panel thereby cleaning them at regular intervals. This option could increase the cost of your solar panel system by around Rs 50,000. 5) Solar Tracker - They rotate the solar panels along with the sun and can boost output from solar panels by approx. 50% esp in summers...for a 1 KW system they would cost approx Rs 70,000....foundation civil work may cost around Rs 5,000 more... 6) UV / IR filters + AR coating - It is estimated that solar cells performance degrade at 0.5-1% per year largely under the ultra violet (UV) rays from the sun...so a 1 KW (1000W) system will deliver only around 800 W after 20 years.... Also most crystalline silicon solar cells decline in efficiency by 0.50% / C rise in temperature...so a 1000W system rated at 25 C will deliver only around 900 W at 45 C... Further, depending on the time of day 4% to 15+% of the incoming light is lost from reflections and thus, is not available to generate electricity. A solar panel cover glass with a suitable anti-reflective coating can deliver an additional 0.3% - 0.6% power conversion... Special solar panel cover glass for a 1 KW system which can block UV (prevent solar cell ageing) & IR (prevent solar cell heating) and comes with AR (anti-reflection) coating will add to costs by Rs 50,000....

ARE SOLAR SYSTEMS ECONOMICAL ? As far as my personal experience of selling in India goes, price is the most dominating factor involved in any purchase...after all, India is all about the money....Quality, reliability & service support come next....People, in general have a very poor purchasing power, are not really concerned about the environment, all they care about is the money in their pockets...

At the moment coal generated electricity is so cheap that practically nothing can compete with it. Solar systems do eventually pay up but the break even periods are pretty long at around of 7-10 years given that coal electricity is as cheap as Rs 3.30 per KWh. However, extending the logic a little further, my father owns a flat which costs Rs 10 lakh and fetches a rent of Rs 3,500 per month...In the bank the Rs 10 lakh at 7% would give us Rs 5,833.00 per month...But my father is not willing to sell it as he says property prices will go up in future. The car we own costs Rs 3 lakh. This money in the bank could give us Rs 1,750 as interest every month. Besides we spend Rs 1,000 on its diesel every month. Taking maintenance costs into account the car costs us more than Rs 3,500 every month. We could have saved that money on public transport and by using electric 2 wheelers or cars but my father says public transport is inconvenient and also below his status... With, the above arguments all I am trying to prove is that owning both the house and car may be uneconomical but India's middle class is willing to spend huge sums on them and even pay loans for 30-35 years. Besides selling car's and homes does not require government subsidy. Selling solar systems even with subsidies as high as 50% is tough !! Also, another aspect is does India's middle class, want to remain middle class forever ; always dependent on someone else for job & money....dependent on the government to give them cheap & dirty coal electricity...using the cheapest and most inferior technology for their electricity or will they would like to upgrade themselves to independent power generation using sunlight ! If you feel solar systems are expensive, or finding it difficult to afford them, don't worry, you are not alone...99% of India can't afford solar energy based systems...we are all equally poor....this is the land of poor people....sometimes, it may be more convenient to enjoy highly subsidized electricity from coal fired plants and enjoy life as usual.... One more point, this business is capital intensive...the seller has to stock items and keep things ready, advertize it, arrange govt subsidy, arrange loan, install it, offer quality & guarantee, offer service support...I wonder how many people would be willing to take all this trouble when

making money out of selling petrol or coal is so easy if we forget about the environment...

FINANCE 1. Bank can give you a home improvement loan at 8% pa based on

The incentive varies from Rs 75 / W to around Rs 125 /W so a 1000 W system can get you a govt discount of around Rs 1.25 lakh.

ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS 1) Over its expected 35 year life the 1 KW solar panel system will provide equivalent CO2 reduction as planting 145 trees !! Each KWh of electricity from a coal fired plant uses approx 1 Kg of coal, so this system saves burning of 8 Kgs of coal per day per home. In a year it reduces release of 2000 Kgs of Carbon dioxide. 2) Each kWh (Kilowatt Hour) of electricity produced by Coal Fired electricity uses 2.5 litres of water. By installing a 1Kw Home Solar Panel

System you will be saving the environment around 3,750 litres of water every year !!

BENEFITS TO HUMAN BEINGS 1) Every year 20 lakh people die in India due to pollution related diseases like asthma, lung cancer, blood pressure....this may be a small number of people as India produce's 2 crocre people every year...However the cost to treat pollution related diseased in India is estimated to be more than Rs 10,000 crocre... By the way, world population has been growing at 150 people per minute or around 8 crocre people every year. 2) As mentioned in the documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" an island called "Tuvalu" between Hawaii & Australia has already succumbed to global warming, forcing evacuation of its inhabitants....this documentary is available on ebay and more details of "Tuvalu" can be seen here http://www.merinews.com/article/global-warming-forcing-tuvaluans-tomigrate/131744.shtml 3) India consumes more than 400 million tonnes of coal. Around 60-100 million tonnes is imported. The import bill for coal is thus likely to be between Rs 30,000 crocre - Rs 60,000 crocre. Coal mining in itself is a major environmental problem... There are around 7,50,000 official workers in mines registered with Directorate General for Mines Safety (DGMS), Dhanbad, India...of them around 190 workers die every year in mine accidents....many suffer from coal miner's pneumoconiosis...more details can be seen here http://www.hinduonnet.com/fline/fl1813/18130810.htm Want to contribute to solar energy ? Visit : www.solarstore.co.in/r&d.pdf When you buy a solar powered system, you are indirectly telling the world

I am rich enough to afford clean solar energy....I will let the poor man depend on govt coal fired plants..

I don't lead a cheap, dirty and polluting lifestyle... I am educated, advanced, matured & understand the benefits of clean solar energy... I am a responsible global citizen..

BE KIND TO MOTHER EARTH -- A LITTLE !!

NOTE :
1. This system will need 30-45 days to allow delivery !! 2. Installation will be your own responsibility....However, we can

provide detailed wiring drawings and be available on phone....at additional costs we can send boys from our place to help with installation...

Recently there has been an announcement of LOAD SHEDDING in our area...also, GRID FAILURE's have occasionaly plunged my entire city into darkness for hours together leading to complete blackout's...nothing works then, no lights, no fans, no TV, just darkness around....the cost of coal / diesel is likely to increase in future....in fact I would like power cut's & price rise's to continue as people would look towards solar energy solutions only when electricity bills start hurting them !! One interesting comment we received were "your prices are not middle class friendly"...but then middle class does spend Rs 35 lakhs on a flat, Rs 3 lakhs on a car, heavier sums on foreign education & travel, marriages & jewellery but feel's Rs 3 lakhs on a solar power system which can serve them for 30 years is expensive !!

DID YOU KNOW A 500 MW coal fired plant serving 1,40,000 people costs Rs 2,000 crocre to build and burns 400,000 kgs of coal in 1 hour...this is fed with 3-5 train loads of coal per day...it uses 2.2 billion gallons of water per year which is enough for a city of 2,50,000 people...the process also releases 37 lakh tons (1 tonne = 1000 kgs) of CO2...10,000 tons of sulphur dioxide...10,200 tons of nitrogen dioxide... 1,25,000 tons of ash & 1,93,000 tons of sludge....30-40% of this electricity generated is lost in transmission....coal reserves may not last beyond 50-60 years....electricity generated is sold at Rs 3.50 / Kwh (solar Rs 15/kwh) which should have been Rs 10 / kwh....India generates around 70,000 MW of electricity using coal... US, China & Australia also get around 70% of their electricity by burning mountains of coal...this is neither healthy nor sustainable... On the contrary a 500 MW solar power plant would cost less than Rs 10,000 crocre and needs nothing more than general cleaning of solar panels... ENCOURAGE SOLAR ENERGY !!
