October 2011

Includes exciting Freshers events schedule!

A Warm Welcome to All!

Congratulations, young Fresher! You have passed your exams, your efforts have been rewarded with a place at an amazing university (Oxbridge? What Oxbridge?!) and you are now probably quite eager to wave goodbye to your tearful parents on Saturday morning. Just a couple of days and a slightly hectic journey through central London separate you from university life. Oh, to be young again! The Fisher Wardening and Hall Senior team would like to welcome you, and provide a little taste of what we have in store for you next week. Its our intention to make your transition into university life as smooth and comfortable as possible. The team can be found throughout the Hall (see website for room numbers), and are always willing to offer help and advice. We all understand university can be hard as we are all students. Fear not, we are here to guide you through.

From left: Will, Mark, Danielle, Jack, Alina, Cerith, Martin (Warden), Amanda, Rhys, Kin- Hing, Sarah, Yifei (Sub-Wardens in blue, Hall Seniors in green)

The Subbies and Hall seniors arent allowed to have complete dominance over your stay here, so we need you to help us form a corruption-free Hall Committee (though bribes arent entirely # unacceptable...). If you want to be a part of what makes Fisher a great place to live and would like to get involved in organising some awesome events, come along to the first meeting on Monday 17th October and get yourself on the Committee. We only meet twice a term, so it will only take up your social time if you want it to!

October in the Common Room to

Imperial College has acquired a reputation for being a university which expects their students to put a lot of effort into their studies. However, we are all followers of the work hard, play hard way of life and, providing you keep on top of your studies, you can expect to take part in some brilliant events. Heres just a small selection of the things we took part in last year...

Look forward to Halloween, Christmas and Valentines Day parties, support our Football Team and help us organise even bigger, better events.

DEAR DEIDRE...

DEIDRE HAS A WEALTH OF EXPERIENCE TENDING TO THE WORRIES AND MISFORTUNES OF MANY DELUDED SOULS, AND WILL ENDEAVOUR TO PROVIDE YOU WITH ILL THOUGHT-OUT ADVICE AND USELESS SOLUTIONS TO ALL YOUR WORLDLY PROBLEMS.

What is the temperature maintained in Fisher Hall? Joe Cool

We do take the comfort of our students very seriously, and we insist on evacuation of the premises if we record temperatures not within our prescribed optimum of approximately 298.2K 50K

What are the exact dimensions in mm of the space underneath the bed, and would I be able to fit my ego underneath it ? O.B. Noxious

There isnt enough wood in the world to make that bed.

If Im sharing a room with someone, and my girlfriend wants to come and stay, what do I say to my roommate? Ben Dover
Ben, there are a number of ways this situation can be resolved. Your roommate will need to leave, or join in. Either way, tell them to suck it up.

Is it a problem that I cant fish if Im going to be living in Fisher Hall? Or will there be extra fishing classes I can take? Hally Butt

Fear not young fresher, we are not so SOLE-less that we would not give you a PLAICE to stay. You need to CRAB every chance you are given, otherwise you will FLOUNDER.
