INTRODUCTION, The most vulnerable and marginalized in our work here in ShireEndaselassie are the children, the smallchildsurvivingonthestreets,thebiggerchildrenstartingtostealinordertosurviveandsome then developing into troubled teenagers leading to delinquency and an added burden to the community. There are children who have come to us because they are alone, abandoned or orphanedorhavespecialneedsthatthelocalschoolshavedifficultyinprovidinghencethebasisof thisproposalforaschoolonsiteatGraceVillage. 2.1.LegalEntityforAbrahamsOasis(formerlyStichtingtheOasisFoundation) AbrahamsTheOasisisanEthiopianResidentCharityregistered(CertificateNo.0905)attheCharities andSocietiesAgencyoftheMinistryofJusticeoftheFederalDemocraticRepublicofEthiopia. 2.3. ProblemStatement Theorphaned,abandonedordeprivedchildhasspecialpsychologicallyandemotionallyneedsthat aredifficulttoprovideforeveninthebestschools;thelargeclassroomandthebusyteacherin publicschoolscannotbeexpectedtosupplythis.Wehaveplannedforsmallerclassestomakethis availabletothechildrenatGraceSchool. 2.4.TargetGroup Residentialchildrenpreviouslyabandonedororphanedandotherspecialneedchildrenin thecommunity

3. VISIONMISSIONANDGEOGRAPHICALLOCATION 3.1. Vision Sustainableopportunitiesforthemarginalizedandvulnerable 3.2. Mission Creatinganenablingenvironmentwherebysocialandculturalintegrationofthesaidmarginalized andvulnerablewilloccur,strengtheningthemthroughchildcare,farmingandhealthresultingin dignityandindependenceoftheindividualandthecommunity. 3.3. GeographicalLocation Abrahams Oasis is located five kilometres from Shire town, in NorthWestern Tigray Zone, Tigray Region, Ethiopia. The current plan is to continue the work being done in Woreda Tahtay Koraro, whichmeasures777.27squarekilometres,containsapopulationof83,019. 4. SCHOOLPROPOSAL 4.1. Background Thissecondyearcontinuestobeoneofongoingdevelopmentforusasacharity.GraceSchoolhas startedwell,andmostchildrenhaveflourishedinthisenvironment.Wecontinuetoidentifygapsin thechildrensneedsand alsoofourcommunity,forexampletheblindanddeaf.Wewouldliketo see an integrated school for normal children alongside their non sighted hearing peers attending schoolinanintegratedmanner.Oursmallintimateclassesarebeneficialtoallvulnerablechildrenbe theydeaf,blind,orphanedorabandoned.Toenablethemtoexpresstheiruniqueselvesandreceive morepersonalinterventionsbyteacherswhilecreatingadistinctiveschoolwherechildrenareable tohelptheblindclassmateandwherestaffandchildrenlearntosign,willcreateaspeciallearning environment. 4.2. Purpose AbrahamsOasisseekstobeconsistentinitsdealingwithallchildren,sothatthroughtreatingeach childindividuallyanddealingwiththemasuniquehumanbeingweareabletohavefixedguidelines foreachresidential/communityspecialneedschildtomeethis/herownrequirements. 4.3. Goal Toprovidemorepersonalizedschoolingforvulnerableanduniquechildren. 4.4. Objectives ToprovideaphysicalschoolbuildingforGraceSchool Toprepareplayingfieldsforthechildren Toequiptheclassroomsandofficetorequiredstandards Toemployadynamicschooldirectorabletoact,thinkandactoutsidethebox. Toemploysixproperlyqualifiedandskilledteacherstoteachgrades1stthrough8th. TocollaboratewithandworkasabranchofGezgeziaSchool Toeducateeachchildasperhis/heruniqueneeds Tomeetnationaleducationstandards Toexamineandtestchildreninatimelymanner Tograduallybringinblindchildrenandlaterdeafchildrenintoanintegratedschool.

5. PROJECTDESIGNANDSTRATEGY 5.1. Thestudents Thenumberofstudentsforthisnextyearwillbegreaterthanthefirstyear.Ourchildrenare competingwiththelocalcountrysideschoolsandholdingtheirown.Oneortwohavelearning difficultiesbutasawholetheyareperformingverywell. 5.3. Theteachers WecomplywiththerequirementssetdownbytheEducationOffice;wewillbemakingsomeradical changesinourteachingstaff.Agooddirectorisessentialandwehavefoundonewhohaswon awardsforthreeyearsrunningfortheeffectivenessofhisruralschoolinanareanorthofushere.He iswillingtocomeandhelpusgetGraceSchoolonthemapasitwere. Oftheteacherswhohavebeenteachingwehaveselectedsomewhowillstayandotherswewill releaseduetotheirpoorperformanceandlackofvisionforthefutureofthisintegratedschool. ThegradeoneandtwoteacherwillgothisyeartoAddisAbabatolearnBrailleandhowtoteachthe blindorpoorsightedchild.Nextyearwewillsendgradetwo/threeteacherforblindchildren teachingandthegradeone/twoteacherforsignlanguageteaching.Ourhopeistointegratethese disabilitiesinourschoolandcreateahelping/learningenvironmentforallstudentsandteachers. 5.4. ThePhysicalSchool Wehaveaschoolbuildingwithfivenewclassrooms,plusthreeclassroomsintheoldbuilding.Of theseonehousesthesciencelaboratoryandthecomputerlaboratory.Thereisateachersoffice. Therearetoiletsforchildrenandteachers,wehavedecidedtobuildpitlatrinesforthechildrenas thecurrenttoiletsareoftenblockedandtheseareneartheclassroomscratingoffensivesmells. Thesiteissurroundedbyfieldswhichwillbedevelopedintoplayingfields,basketball,andsome sportstructuresforthechildrentoplayonandtokeepfit.Wewouldliketoseethesefieldsfenced offtokeepthechildreninanddemarcatethefarmingfields. 5.5. TheRoleofWoredaEducationOffice TheschoolfunctionsasabranchoftheGezgeziaSchool;wecollaborateandworkwiththeGezgezia School,comparinggradesandrankingofstudentstocreatealargecompetitionforoursmallschool. Theschoolmeetsnationaleducationstandardsatalllevelsandaimstoexcelinpushingthebright childwhileaidingthroughextratutoringtheweakerstudentstowardssuccess.

6. ORGANIZATIONALCAPACITY 8.1. AbrahamsOasis AbrahamsOasishasaDirectorandteamleaderswhomanagethelocaloffice.Regularmeetingsare heldbyManagement,quarterlyBoardmeetingsareheldandAnnualgeneralAssemblysessionsare heldandareopentothepublic.Minutesarekeptforallmeetings. 8.2. Monitoring AbrahamsOasisworkscloselywiththelocallinedepartmentprincipallytheWoreda/Zonal EducationOfficeandmaintainsopencommunicationsregardingcrosscuttingissues.Theactual schoolismonitoredbytheWoredaOfficeofEducation. 8.2. ReportingRoles AbrahamsOasisprovidestherequiredreportstocorrespondinggovernmentagencies,line departmentsanddonorsonaquarterlybasis.Thisincludesanannualreviewandauditofaccounts andadministrativematters.
