V. Project Title: Understanding the organization: Financial Management Services
Foundation.
VI. Objectives: To have a rational understanding of what an organization is all about, to
learn about its strengths, weaknesses and activities and to try to relate theory to the
ground realities of the working of an organization.
VII. Scope: The study was conducted at the Financial Management Services Foundation
located in Noida (U.P.). The study was limited to understand the functioning of the
organization and relating to the various theoretical concepts and framework in
understanding organizations.
VIII. Methodology: The approach was to observe the working habits of the staff, work
culture and interrelationships in an unobtrusive manner. The discussions with the
officials at various levels of the organization including the executive directed
provided valuable input to understand the activities and functioning of organization.
The primary source of data was mainly the staff members, documents and annual
reports of FMSF, while the secondary data sources were like Annual reports, Project
proposals etc.
IX. Major Findings: FMSF is a resource organization which specializes in Financial
Management, Legal Issues and Governance in Development Organizations. The
organization is a facilitating agency for monitoring and capacity building of various
projects funded by donor like Evangelischer Entwicklungsdientst or EED, Bread for
the World (BFTW) ICCO, TEAR FUND etc in South Asia. It’s a resource
organisation providing support to Indian NGOs to fulfill the requirement of funding
agencies mentioned above. It also conducts lots of training programmes and
workshops for development professional in the field of financial monitoring,
evaluation, legal issues; taxation etc.It is a lean and closely-knit organisation and is
known for its financial monitoring of the NGOs across South Asia. The organization
has moderate to high formalization, centralization and complexity option generation.
The organization is highly professional and formal and has very low turnover rate.
The organisation does the planning in a decentralized manner with executive director
consulting all officials. The organisation is now broadening its thrust area to
networking, consultancy, documentation ,information dissemination, study and action
research
X. Recommendations: The organisation should decrease its dependence on single
funding agency (Evangelischer Entwicklungsdientst or EED) for source of fund. It
should try to diversify its source of fund by providing consultancies as well as
conducting more capacity building programs in its core competency areas to the
NGOs.
