Gayathri is considered to be the most Powerful ofaii Mantras. The word Gayathri means " that which protects the one who chants It Gayathri Mantra is also known as Savitri since it is a prayer directed to Savitur the Sun God. Gayathri Mantra's seer is Sage Viswamitra.

This is a prayer directed to the Sun God to illumine our intellects just as He illumines the- earth, atmosphere and the skies. Sun is the Pratyaksha Deva, the Deva whom we can see with our own eyes. Sun is the supporter of all lite on earth. But for the sun, the earth would not have been warm and bright. All the food that is consumed by living beings on earth is provided by green plants through photosynthesis. Sunlight is necessary for photosynthesis. Therefore if there is no sun there is no lite. There is a higher meaning to the Gayathri Mantra. The words Bhur, Bhuva and Swa: also means our levels of experience - waking, dreaming and deep sleep. That which illumines all the three states of experience is our Consciousness. This Consciousness is the reflection of the Supreme Consciousness - the formless, nameless, attributeless, all pewading, all knowing and all powerful Parabrahman. To live constantly in the Consciousness ofthe Supreme is the ultimate achievement of human life. Gayathri Mantra reminds us to live in this CONSTANT INTEGRATED

AWARENESS.
There are no restrictions on the chanting of this Mantra. lt is not true that only Brahmins, that too men only, can chant it as is propagated by some. Gayafhri Mantra can be chanted by anyone at any time and at any place. A lf Gayathri Mantra is chanted with proper intonation and with full concentration and dedication it produces very strong vibrations which can heal illnesses and produce radical and positive changes in the lives of not only those who chant it but also in the lives of those to whom the chanting is dedicated. lt is a scientifically proven fact that children who chant this mantra properly and regularly are found to have their IQ levels improved considerably. Gayathri Mantra brings our consciousness to higher levels, which one can understand, will improve our performance in all walks of life, not only material but also spiritual.
