Tension Transducers
Rugged, accurate transducers for use in almost any processing environment.
Tension control is often used in manufacturing or printing sub-processes such as unwinding, winding, extruding, slitting, sheeting, coating, laminating, braiding, embossing and embedding. These operations can be highly involved. Proper web tension is needed for high-quality output. So it is important to work with a tension control supplier you can rely on one with a range of reliable products, industry experience and excellent support capabilities. Dovers tension control products are designed to be integrated smoothly into your machines structure wherever your application demands them the unwind zone, rewind zone, intermediate zone, or any combination of these. Tension Transducers
Dover tension transducers measure actual web tension in almost any moving web or lament. Transducers output an accurate signal to an amplier, indicator or controller. All DFE transducers have rugged stainless steel and aluminum construction for reliability and corrosion resistance. If you dont see a transducer that ts your needs exactly, please call or e-mail us. We manufacture custom transducers to t almost any tension measurement application. Items shown with the CE mark have been tested and have met the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive (73/23/EEC) and the EMC Directive (89/336/EEC) established by the member states of the European Union.
The industry standard in tension transducers. Completely sealed to protect inside from dust and water. Recessed seals are protected from damage. Available in three frame sizes and both live-shaft and dead-shaft versions. Choose from ve mounting styles: screw, ange, pillow-block, thru-frame and piloted ange. Tension Roll

Tension transducers and dead-shaft idler roll are combined in one integral unit. No assembly required. Faster, easier, and less expensive to install than separate roll and transducers. Only one transducer cable-eliminates cable crossing between machine frames. Roll diameters from 3 inches (100mm) and up. Face widths to 120 inches (3050mm). Load ratings from 12 to 400 pounds (55 to 1800N; 5.4 to 182 Kg).
Based on the Model C transducer. A Roll Shell Transducer locks into the inner diameter at each end of an aluminum or steel tube to create a simple-to-install tension-sensing roll. Special expanding connector collet allows easy insertion of transducer into roll. Once tightened, the collet fastens the transducer rmly into the tube. Load ratings from 10-800 lbs. (44N-3559N; 4.5-364Kg)
Specially designed transducer combines a cantilevered idler roll and two tension transducers in one unitfor fast, easy installation and high accuracy. Construction provides strength, corrosion-resistance and positive overload protection. Three widths accommodate narrow webs up to 14 (356mm) wide. Choose a single-bolt mounting or four-bolt ange.

The VNW (Very Narrow Web) transducer measures process tension in narrow web (up to six inches wide), ribbon or lament. It mounts cantilevered on process machinery for unwind/ payoff, rewind/take-up, or intermediate zone applications.
Designed to measure tension in any moving ribbon or lament. Ideal for ribbons or laments of wire, plastic, rubber, metal, glass, composite or other materials. Three standard wheels availablefor ribbon, for lament, or adapter model for custom requirements. Three mounting styles available: S, FL, and PB.
THN is the thin (2.3 inch width) transducer of choice when a standard shaft-end transducer is too wide. A single-bolt mounting allows the THN transducer to be rotated to any position and oriented on the machine frame prior to idler roll installation. The removable clamp on the transducers shaft coupling allows the idler roll to be installed and removed without disturbing the transducers.
UPBH transducers are used in applications with the tension force direction parallel to the top plate. SUPB transducers are for use in applications with the main force component perpendicular to the transducer top plate. Designed for paper processing applications, these FT Model transducers are built to last. Unique Model UPBH SUPB parallelogram construction provides FT strength and reliability. Made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel and aluminum. No hinges, no joints. Two frame sizes.
Tension Indicators
Dover Flexo Electronics offers a wide variety of tension indicators, including tension signal amplifiers and interfaces with or without display meters. Indicators manage tension signals from DFE transducers to measure actual tension and display it on an analog or digital meter. Voltage and current outputs, proportional to tension, can be used to interface with drive systems, controllers, computers, or recorders. Indicators can also be used as a reference to control tension manually. Options are available to customize any indicator to fit special requirements.

Connect the TI17C amplifier to any DFE tension transducer and output a tension signal to a PLC, drive, controller or other device. The TI17C operates on 115/230 VAC, and the TI18C works on 24VDC. QuikCal zero and calibration push buttons mean faster setup with no pot adjustments. The optional Tension Limit Switch serves as an alarm trigger for web break prevention. Beats the competition in head-to-head comparisons for output stability.
In addition to displaying total tension across the width of a running web, the TI 15 indicator shows actual tension on left or right web edge. The tension is measured continuously on all three channels and out-of-spec readings alert the machine operator to make adjustments to equalize side-to-side tension and optimize total tension. For web break prevention, min and max limits can be set to activate an alarm.
A general purpose indicator for measurement and display of total web tension. The indicator comes in a rugged steel enclosure and has a single terminal strip for all electrical connections including AC power. An optional Tension Limit Switch activates at high or low preset tensions.

Display actual tension from tension transducers. Serial interface for connection to computer or PLC. Switch between English and metric units without recalibration. Inline Transducer Amplifier

Simplify web tension measurement with transducermount or cable-connect iAmp amplier modules. These enclosed miniature tension ampliers are powered by 24 VDC and output 0-to-10 Volt isolated signals proportional to tension. Take the output directly to a PLC or motor drive. iAmp connects to most DFE transducers and includes zero and calibration pot adjustments.
The MAC Card is an eight-channel amplier/interface consisting of eight independent tension ampliers on a single circuit card. The MAC provides excitation voltage to connected tension transducer pairs, and puts out a 0-to-10VDC signal proportional to tension for each pair of transducer signal inputs. The 0-to-10V outputs can be used as inputs to drives, PLCs or other tension monitoring or closed-loop tension control devices. The 5.5 x 7 inch MAC Card installs at in the machines control panel.
A dual-channel tension amplier on a single rackmountable card. Used with one or two pair of transducers to measure or display web tension in one or two zones. The TI 11 card contains two independent tension circuits with independent calibration adjustments. IEC/ANSI/IEEE type 2 plugin card installs into standard size 3U 19 inch rack or into optional mounting module.
An intrinsically safe interface between transducers and a tension controller, drive system or computer. The UL listed FireGuard reduces risk of re or explosion in plant environments where combustible vapor may be present. Used when tension transducers and analog tension meter (optional) are located in a hazardous Class I Division 1 or 2 area. Can be used with drive systems, computers, PLCs or DFE controllers. Outputs include 0 to+10V undamped isolated, and a 0 to 1 mA damped meter output.

The compact WebHandler3 digital tension controller takes automatic closed-loop web control to a new level of simplicity and performance at a highly competitive price. Standard features include touch panel setup and calibration with clear menus and text prompts, a large, backlit LCD display, compensation for speed and roll diameter, soft start, storage and recall of multiple job setups, and serial access via PC using included Windows-based software. Many options are also available. The TensionManager Control Module is a microprocessorbased automatic web tension controller for OEMs and machinery builders. The compact controller is customizable with modular device add-ons, and easily congured for any web-fed converting or printing application. TensionManager allows direct tension measurement and control to be designed into machinery at a highly competitive cost.
DFEs agship full-featured analog tension controller, renowned for its reliability, versatility, and ease-of-use. For use in unwind, intermediate, or rewind tension zones. Optional functions include taper tension, dual transducer input, DC and pulse tachometer inputs, and more. System status lights allow the operator to see the operating mode at a glance. Low-cost, automatic tension controller. Provides the superior performance of the SteadyWeb controller and the basic, required control features for most unwind and rewind applications. No frills package includes analog tension meter and users choice of outputs: 0-75 psi pneumatic, 090 VDC, 45 VDC, or 24 VDC and 0-10 VDC isolated and non-isolated. Complete automatic turret rewind control system for automating a ying splice sequence. Combines advanced SteadyWeb tension control, core speed matching controls, ying-splice sequencing circuitry and a user-friendly interface. With DFEs Dual Disk Brakes worn friction pads can be changed in seconds, without tools. Limited travel pistons prevent disks from being scored. Cylinders can be actuated individually. Return spring cannot puncture diaphragm. Available in ve standard sizes. Brakes t easily in place of other dual disk brakes. DFEs universal style actuators can retrot brakes by other manufacturers. Same high-performance as Dovers Heavy-Duty dual disk brakes, but smaller and with a lower torque range. Easy to install and use, the 60 series brake was designed for lower tension unwind application in the converting, printing, composite, wire and lament industries. The brake can be congured for use with one cylinder or up to six cylinders.
The new 1D6D single disk pneumatic brake is the perfect low-cost tensioning solution for unwind applications with low-torque requirements or installation space constraints. A single diaphragm provides low actuation force for low-tension applications. Corrosion-resistant materials allow the 1D6D to be used in wet environments.
