INTRODUCTION
• Identify the basic machine The R1600H Underground Loader is a direct replacement for the R1600G
specifications. Underground Loader and is designed specifically for the extraction and hauling of
hard rock minerals in an underground mining environment.
The basic machine shipping specifications for standard machines are listed below:
• Approximate weight: 30150 kg (66,469 lb)
• Length (maximum): 10347 mm (407.4 in)
• Width (maximum): 2723 mm (107.2 in)
• Monitoring System
• Instrument Cluster

MACHINE FEATURES
• Identify the machine main The C11 ACERT™ engine with a Mechanically Actuated Electronic Unit (MEUI)
features. injection fuel system features advanced electronic control, precision fuel delivery,
and refined air management.
The electronically controlled transmission provides full power shift with four forward
speeds and four reverse speeds standard.
The monitoring system monitors the machine status and provides warning
indications to the operator. Diagnostic codes are accessible through the monitor
display and through a laptop computer with Caterpillar Electronic Technician
(Cat ET) software.
The STIC steering control allows one hand operation of steering and transmission
controls.
The ride control system is an optional feature that uses a nitrogen filled oil
accumulator in the hydraulic lift circuit to act as a shock absorber for the bucket and
lift arms.
The oscillating rear axle provides greater machine stability. One rear wheel can
drop or raise with all wheels remaining on the ground for maximum traction.
The 24 volt direct current starting system is coated to resist corrosion in the
underground environment.
The R1600H Underground Loader also offers an optional remote control system for
working in hazardous conditions.

SHUTDOWN
14
Remote Engine Shutdown
• Identify the emergency stop On the R1600H there are two emergency stop switches and an engine shutdown
switches and engine shutdown switch. On the right side of the machine the emergency stop switch (1) is located
switch. next to the engine oil filter. On the left side of the machine the emergency stop
switch (2) is located next to the air filter. In the operator's station the engine
shutdown switch (3) is located at the bottom of the seat.
When one of the emergency stop switches is pressed, the engine will stop, the
parking brake will engage, and the implement and steering functions will be
disabled.
Use the engine shutdown switch to stop the engine from the ground level. Move
the engine shutdown switch to the OFF position and the engine will stop. After the
engine stops, move the engine shutdown switch to the ON position. During normal
operation, use the key start switch to stop the engine.
NOTE: The emergency stop switches and the engine shutdown switch do
not shut off the electrical system of the machine.
15
AUXILIARY START SYSTEM
• Identify the auxiliary start The auxiliary start receptacle (arrow) is located on the right side of the machine, in
receptacle. the battery compartment. The receptacle provides ground level jump starting
capability in an effective way for a technician to start a machine with low battery
power.

CONCLUSION
The Introduction module for the R1600H Underground Loader is now complete.
When used in conjunction with the Operation and Maintenance Manual (OMM) and
other service information, the service technician will be able to locate and identify
the major components of the R1600H Underground Loader.
