SHELL STRUCTURE The central feature of the reorganization plan of 1995 was the dismantling of the threeway matrix through which the operating companies had been coordinated since the 1960s. In its place, four business organizations were created to achieve closer integration within each business sector across all countries. It was intended that the new structure would allow more effective planning and control within each of the businesses, remove much of the top-heavy bureaucracy that had imposed a costly burden on the Group, and eliminate the power of the regional fiefdoms. The new structure would strengthen the executive authority of the Committee of Managing Sohail Bilawal Raza (091020) Page 2

The Energy Challenges In the World

The world faces three hard truths in meeting the energy challenge. 1. Firstly, demand for energy is growing rapidly, as countries including China and India enter the most energy-intensive phase of economic development. 2. Secondly, supplies of easily accessible oil and natural gas are unlikely to keep up with demand after 2015. The world will have to use energy more efficiently and increase its use of other sources of energy. This means more renewables like solar, wind and biofuels, more nuclear energy, more coal and more oil and natural gas from difficult-to-reach locations or unconventional sources like oil sands. 3. Thirdly, as a result CO2 emissions from energy responsible for more than half of man-made GHG emissions are set to rise, even as concerns about climate change grow.

How Meet These Challenges

To meet the energy challenge oil companies should using advanced technologies to unlock oil and gas in more remote or hostile environments, and new techniques to extend the lives of existing fields. Oil Companies should increasing production from Sohail Bilawal Raza (091020) Page 7
