General Instructions :
(i) The question paper consists of three sections A, B, and C. section A is
compulsory for all students. In addition to section A, every student has to
attempt either section B or section C.
(ii) For Section - A
Question numbers 1 to 8 are of 3 marks each.
Question numbers 9 to 15 are of 4 marks each.
Question numbers 16 to 18 are of 6 marks each.
(iii) For Section B, Section C
Question numbers 19 to 22 are of 3 marks each.
Question numbers 22 to 25 are of 4 marks each.
Question numbers 26 is of 6 marks.
(iv) All Question are compulsory.
(v) Internal choices have been provided in some question. You have attempt only
one of the choices in such questions.
(vi) Use of calculator is not permitted. However, you may ask for logarithmic and
statistic tables, if required.
(vii) Please write down the serial number of the question before attempting it.

Q. 19. A coin is tossed 4 times. Find the mean and variance of probability distribution of
number of heads.
OR
For a poisson distribution it is given that P(X=1) = P(X=2). Find the mean of the poisson
distribution. Hence find P(X=0) and P(X=4). [use e-2 = 0.13534)

Q. 20. In a bolt factory, machines A, B, C manufacture 25%, 35%, 40% respectively of


the total bolts of their one put 5%, 4% and 2% respectively are defective bolts. A bolt is
drawn at random and is found to be defective. Find the probability that it is manufactured
by machine B.

Q. 21. If the bankers gain on a bill will be ⅓th of the banker’s discount, the rate of
interest being 10% per annum. Find the unexpired period of bill.

Q. 22. A bill for Rs. 150,000 was drawn on 14th May 2003 for 5 months. It was
discounted on 5th August 2003 at 7% per annum. Find the banker’s discount and the
amount received by the holder of the bill.

Q. 23. A and B are partners sharing profits and losses in the ratio 3 : 4 respectively. They
admit C as a new partner, the new profit sharing ratios being 2 : 2 : 3 between A, B and
C respectively. C pays Rs. 12,000 premium for goodwill. Find the amount of premium
shared by A and B.

Q. 24. find the present worth of an ordinary annuity of Rs. 1200 per annum for 10 years
at 12% per annum compound annually. [ use (1.10)10 = 0.3221 ]

Q. 25. The cost function of a product of a firm per day, for x units, is given by
C(x) = 3000 + 271x + x3/6, where as the revenue function is given by
R(x) = 3300 + 1000x – x3/6 ; 0<x<30
Calculate
(i) The number of units that maximize the profit and
(ii) The profit per unit when the maximum profit level has been achieved.

Q. 26. A housewife wishes to mix up two kinds of food X and Y, in such a way that
mixture contains at least 10 units of vitamin A and 12 units of vitamin B and 8 units of
vitamin C. the vitamin contents of 1 kg of food X and 1 kg of food Y are given in the
following table.

If 1kg food X costs Rs. 6 and I kg of food Y costs Rs. 10, find the least cost of mixture
which will produce the desired diet.
