Level of IT literacy - omit all standard skills that everyone is expected to have, eg MS Office - Say which specialist software packages you are familiar with (eg Fortran, C++, Java, HTML) - Use words like competent, proficient, working knowledge of ... Language skills (basic, conversational, working, fluent - "GCSE French", for example, is not an indication of your proficiency) - NB if you say you are fluent be prepared to be interviewed in that language! Interests/Activities
This section is your chance to highlight qualities that are not covered elsewhere. And to demonstrate community engagement. Give some information about each interest that makes it unusual, interesting and a potential conversation starter. So instead of "cooking", put down "Trying new Provencal recipes collected on my trips to France". Instead of "travel", try "visiting active volcanoes/seaside cities/tropical rainforests" Don't forget to include positions of responsibility and evidence of achievement. Be careful what your extra-curricular interests say about you - it is generally not advisable to imply that you prefer solitary activity, if you are applying for a team-based role.

Two names and contact details are usually sufficient. Check the specific requirements of the organisation you are applying to. One academic, one work-related or personal, as appropriate. Check with your referee before you put them on your CV. Send them a copy of your application, so that they are aware of the job you are applying for and what you have said about yourself.

Who should I choose for my referees? You should give the names and contact details of two or three referees. One should be academic - most likely your Oxford tutor - and the other either an employer or someone who can give you a character reference. Each referee should be in a position to comment on your suitability for the role that you are applying for. Note that you must not use a relative as a referee, although family friends are acceptable.
