Subject: Hari sends Karadai Nonbu Wishes

Hi all;

Today, March 14th 2004 is "Karadai nonbu" - It is actually "Kara-adai-nonbu"

Karadai nonbu, was initially performed by goddess parvathi, in order to please Lord Shiva. She happened to take
birth on earth, and was distressed by the her seperation with Shiva. Hence she used to cook one adai, (rice adai)
and offer that adai with butter, and pray to shiva, that she should never part with him. It is said she kept this vrath
for 45 days or one mandalam.

( Incidentally - try seperating Butter from any warm Adai... Impossible )

Hence women do it to pray that they should never be separated from their better halves, or loved ones, in any
birth, till eternity.

We all know the story about how Savitri gor her husband Satyavan back from Yama.

It is said Savithri was advised to keep this vrath (nonbu).

The purpose of the pooja is to pray that neither the man nor the woman, who happen to love each other, should
be saddned by seperation.
This pooja is to be done during the transition of "Maasi" to "Panguni".

Karadai nombu was oberved at our place this morning, about 7.45 am.

Subject: Hari sends mail and Elai Adai Recipe

Dear All;

Been a while....

This past 4 weeks have been hectic at Chennai, with the financial year close of 2003 - 2004

To me, like all for business people, the opening of any new Financial Year is important and significant.

To me it is a great opportunity to take the "THULABARAM"

I weigh out my Assets and Liabilities and take stock of my true Net Worth.

Most of my friends do the same.

It is nice looking back and have a look at all the records of the past years and watch the steps we had taken to
grow.

The "THULABARAM" is just not of things that are material and measurable.

It consists of the growth in the number of good things that we have learnt, friends acquired etc... during the past
12 months and over the years.

I found a good software available online, to keep track of your Net Worth..

It is available on www.personalfn.com

I have been using some of their paid services in their other website www.equitymaster.com

Try it. You may like it.

regards
Hari

Yesterday, Sunday April 11th 2004... We made "Elai Adai" at our place.

For the Uninitiated... "Elai Adai" is a Steamed and Folded rice Pancake with a Sweet Fill in.

This is Jack Fruit Season in Chennai.

So Elai Adai was on the cards for a long time.

With a little coaxing, my mother was firing on all cylinders.

Slicing the Jackfruit to take out the Pieces of Jack fruit, making the coconut mixture ready, having the rice flour in

place..

Soumya and Shyamala took about 15 minutes to have the first "Adai" - ready to serve.

You know some thing guys.. You gotta eat this stuff to believe it.

Humfff.... Gossamer thin rice flour covering to a most delectable sweet dish.

If you are watching your calories, you can still have Two pieces, ... that is if you can stop at it !!!!!

And here is the Recipe...
