(A)live in Music…

Music…

Just hear or listen the word ‘Music’ and the magic of the word ‘Music’ takes
us to a different world… the world of imagination… the world of dreams…!! Depending on its
several moods, we create whatever image we want to while listening to music… do we? Yes…
more or less, we all do it knowingly.. unknowingly …. I saw people giving rhythm to music in
subconscious mind….
What made music significant in human life, apart from entertainment? Music has
power to connect us across the barriers of time, culture, and language. Craze for
music is prevalent in almost all countries without any exception. Tunes & rhythm
may be different but the urge for melody of music is a basic desire in all human
hearts. No doubt, it is truly the one universal language of mankind.

Child development studies research reveals very positive effects on the child's brain by just listening
to classical music. Music is an art that appeals to the conscious mind, but the best music also
appeals to the subconscious. Many doctors for therapeutic reasons also use classical music. The
reasons can be anything from trauma to nightmares.
“Making music makes the elderly healthier…There were significant in anxiety, depression, and loneliness
following keyboard lessons. These are factors that are critical in coping with stress, stimulating the
immune system, and in improved health. Results also show significant increases in human growth
hormones following the same group keyboard lessons. (Human growth hormone is implicated in aches
and pains.)” –Dr. Frederick Tims, reported in AMC Music News, June 2, 1999.

Have you ever noticed music in nature? May it be living or non-living

things, music can be listened everywhere in the world. Nature sounds
include waves, birds, whales, rain and more! Birds have often been a
source of thematic material for composers of classical music. Composers
have long been inspired by the sounds around them.

Animals, too, respond to beautiful music, and that their souls are touched
and uplifted by the same music that touches and uplifts the souls of human
beings. Animals found to be sensitive to music and express it in various
ways. Take example of Dolphins. They create music to stay in touch with
each other. Nightingale & Cuckoo are known for their voice only. Plants too
are not exception to the musical world. It has been found that plants grow
very well and give more healthy products with the rhythm of music…!

Origin of Indian music is traced to the time referred in `Vedas’ or the `Breath
Eternal’. The Sapta Swaras of music seems to have arisen from Sama Gana
which is summarized in Pranava consisting of three syllables ‘A’, ‘U’ & ‘M’.
In the earlier years i.e. around 4th to 8th Century A.D., music was used as a
source of entertainment and pass time to relieve the monotony.

Just be a tune or it may be composition of songs, which is made up of

the lyrics or words conveying the thoughts & feelings of the composer
that is set with music through melodious tune of the sounds or the tala
or the beats. Indian music has developed through very complex
interactions between different peoples of different races and cultures
over several thousand years. In a musical tradition in which
improvisation predominates, and written notation, when used, is skeletal, the music of past
generations is irrevocably lost.

Television programs like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa & Indian Idol try to keep music alive
where a platform is given to youngsters to present their singing talent through
healthy competition. Many good singers have come up from such reality shows.
Internet has helped music lovers by making music more assessable and
accessible. Sources for purchasing CD's, written music and also downloading free
MP3 music files, music on radio stations over the web have become easier now.

Unfortunately, in recent times, with increasing Commercial exploitation like name, fame and
wealth, meaning and purpose of music has lost its natural glory. The trend set by the movies
completely turned the face of Indian music around. More emphasis is being given on show off. In
the name of pop, loud instruments are being given more importance than its lyrics. Old melodies are
being twisted off for making remix.

However, we can’t forget the valuable contribution of filmi-non filmi music

in our life. Music is one of the most influential form of expression. We can
see, hear, and even feel music. Songs have sometimes made us laugh and
sometimes cry. We dance on them and we celebrate our moment humming
those numbers. The musically-gifted Lata Mangeshkar, popularly known as

the "Nightingale of India" and the "Melody Queen," is not only the supreme
voice of the Indian music, but an Institution of Indian Music. Music making
involves theme, lyricists, music director, singers, and musical instrument
players. I salute to all those personalities, who are directly or indirectly
helped music to grow and glow. There are number of melodious, beautiful
and unforgettable songs or tunes which force us to hum them again and
again…

More and more we get involved in it,
Brings aliveness in life,
Its the world of music,
That delights the life…

No matter what it is used for, music is the perfect art and our lives would be that much less
complete without it. Really, how quiet would be the life without music…! Atleast, I can’t imagine
it… u guys?
