FAMILY CASE LOAD

Mrs. MB is a 35 y/o widow and a high school graduate who lives together with the other six family members in Lotus Street TS Cruz Subd., Las Pinas City. Since her husband died due to colon cancer just a month ago, she became the head of the family who dominates in decision making. She currently stands as a breadwinner working as a street vendor selling kakanin, and earns a profit of P200.00/day. Mrs. MB has the major responsibility in taking care of her familys health and the one who manage in budgeting the familys daily expenditure. RB, is Mrs. MBs niece, an 18 y/o high school graduate who was in charge of household chores and took all the responsibilities whenever the head of the family was out to work. Her eldest son, KB1, 18 y/o was a high school graduate who started to work as Electrician on Ayala Alabang for 5 days from now. Next was KB2, 10 y/o female, and was a Grade 5 Student. Her 3rd daughter was KB3, 7y/o and currently a Grade 2 student. Her 4th son was KB4, 3y/o and was fully immunized. Her youngest son was KB5, 8mos. old with ongoing immunization. All the other children except for KB4 and KB5 help in household chores after school by dividing housework. The family tends to communicate well, has sense of unity, and has no conflicts with one another. Since Mrs. MB husband died, she usually has a hard time dealing with her new life and was not able to balance or manage her time properly to supervise and attend the needs of her children. Due to sudden changes, the family failed to meet their basic needs. They usually eat 2 times a day due to inadequate financial budget despite of Mrs. MBs hard work. She was also too busy working that her children are usually left at home by themselves every day. The family lives in a bungalow house made of mixed materials which are composed of wood and cement about 105 meters away from the health centre. They owned their house permanently, given by Mrs. MBs uncle. They have insufficient living space and no windows therefore they have insufficient ventilation. They used to drink purified water, contained in jars with cover and were not refrigerated. They usually use firewood as their cooking facility for food preparation and they have no drainage facility. They use receptacles without cover with plenty of flies surrounding theur trash can and they usually wait for the garbage collector for disposal. For excreta disposal they used water sealed (with septic tank). They have no household pets raised. There were presence of flies, rats, cockroaches and lizards inside their house. They have untidy, unorganized and noisy neighbour. In terms of general sanitary condition, the house is congested and they have unsanitary environment. They ride in a tricycle or jeepney as their transportation system. Mrs. MB is consistently a non acceptor of family planning method until now. Since her husband died she didnt have any sexual intercourse. For the past

6months to 1 year, Mr. JB, 42 y/o was diagnosed of colon cancer and was medically attended at Philippine General Hospital for a couple of months. After a week Mr. JB passed away. Mrs. MB makes sure that her children get enough rest and sleep and she require them to take a nap usually in the afternoon from 2-3pm. She teaches her children the proper way of hand washing as part of their hygiene. Dried foods such as fried fish are always present in their meals as a food preference of her children.
