THW abolish taxes on alcohol and cigarettes that go beyond normal sales taxes -PROStatus quo: The taxes

on cigarettes and alcohol are being applied all over the world under the name of sin tax, which is usually the first tax to be increased in case the government needs some money and this growth is accepted by the general public easily. Since 2008 "sin tax" has brought to the united states only 900 million dollars. Definition: taxes on alcohol and cigarettes = sin tax = A state-sponsored tax that is added to products or services that are seen as vices, such as alcohol, tobacco and gambling normal sales taxes = taxes that are applied to any product on the market, such as VTA, "Green tax" for electronics. CP: If we can help the people and in the same time get some money for the government and thus for the whole population by not restraining any rights than there is no reason why we shouldn't do it. ARGUMENTS: 1. It is legit 2. Practical aspect - money for the government

1. It is legit - there is no harm in trying to disincentives a bad behavior (the vices that undergo the tax are recognized by the society as being bad things) and are also proven to lower the health of the population and directly affects them

TAKE ACTION: we are not banning or forbiding the action itself, instead we are trying to make the people quit smoking by showing them another disadvantage AND BY TAKING ACTION IN THE FIRST PLACE. (7/10 smokers in EU quit smoking because they do not have money to buy cigarettes) - we've seen that campaigns do not work, advertisments and other things have no effect, so the best effect is by taking one of the resources that people need the most these days = MONEY - we help people to quit smoking - since it is not something that does not harm them and does not restrain their liberty of choice, but instead helps people it is completely legit to do it (we see that the population of the country does not have any problem against this tax). We are not favorizing nobody, we are just saying that if you want to have a pleasure that is damaging you and the ones around you then you should have a higher price for it b) it is accepted by large public, and even by the smokers in a fair proportion

2. Practical aspect

- this means more money for the government - besides disincentiveing a bad behaviour the government is also helping the others by puttin a tax on this vices. since smoking and alcohol are vices that are seen as bad by the whole population and are affecting the whole population then why wouldn;t the others that are affected by these things have something to win: money from this tax goes to them
