technical information

• AOD (Patent Pending) is designed for Zone 1 Hazardous Area operation

• AOD is designed for “Online De-sanding” of separators at up to 40 barg
• Hydrocyclone separation of Sand and Produced Water
• Agitated, chemically assisted clean up of separated sand
• Oil recovery to platform Hazardous Open Drain
• Produced Water is returned to the separator as the motive means of agitating the sand
o Minimises overboard discharges
o Minimises chemistry issues within the separator
o Minimises chemical injection requirements
• Jetting nozzle is inserted in the separator using a hydraulic ram via a carrier hose connected to a drain valve
o A “Shear Valve” is incorporated in case of the nozzle becoming stuck in the separator
o Hydraulic Ram auto retracts on loss of 110v supply
• Sand removal by carrier hose connected to up to 3 separator drain valves
• In build ESD System:
o Fail closed ESDV on AOD inlet
o AOD ESD initiators:
„ AOD inlet high pressure
„ Sand Collection Tank high level
„ 40% LEL gas detection in Sand Collection Tank
„ 2ppm H2S detection in Sand Collection Tank
„ Local Emergency Stop button
„ Loss of AOD power supply (Platform alarm initiated)
o PSV protection at Sand Collection Manifold and at AOD inlet
• Sample points to confirm AOD performance criteria
• Chemical Injection capability

facts and figures

• AOD footprint: 5.3m x 3.03m (x 3.105m high)

• Weight:
o Dry: 8500 kg
o Wet: 14500 kg
o Deck Loading: 903 kg/m2 (wet)
• Utility requirements:
o Air
o 440v supply
o 110v supply to Jetting Unit and Hydraulic Unit
o Cooling water to plate heat exchanger (typically a fire hydrant)
o Initial fill of water (approx 6 m3)
• Tie-in isolations:
o Determined by Isolation Risk Assessment, but typically Double Block
• Trained, competent crews
• System has been subjected to a DNV facilitated HAZOP
• AOD is subject to continual improvement managed by a “Management of Change” process

potential benefits

• Online De-sanding, utilising the AOD, can be used to control sand build up in production separators avoiding costly and
hazardous confined space entries for clean out. Online De-sanding can eliminate deferred oil associated with such
unplanned shut downs.

• Online De-sanding, utilising the AOD, can be used in advance of a planned shut down to reduce the confined space entry
clean out time, reducing risk exposure.
Minimising the clean out time aids the return to production is as short a time as possible.
