AA - API

AA - AnnuIus Access A point of entry into the space between two
concentric objects, such as between the casing and tubing or wellbore and
casing, where fluid can flow.


AAV - AnnuIus Access VaIve - A 'FLS' USV 2-1/16 10K WP Gate Valve,
Tree mounted, operable from the WOCS as a direct hydraulic system
function which provides access to the annulus.



ACC - AccumuIator - A vessel for temporary storage of pressurized
hydraulic fluid. t is used to ensure continuous operation at the appropriate
pressures. Accumulators are located on the SAM subsea and in the HPU
topside.




AMV - AnnuIus Master VaIve - A 'FLS' USV 2-1/16 10K WP gate valve,
tree mounted, that provides access to the annulus for seal fluids or during
the blow-down procedure.















API - American PetroIeum Institute. An organization whose purpose is to
advance the oil and gas industry worldwide. t publishes a wide range of
specifications, standards, recommended practices, and other documents
that define requirements and best practices for the industry.

ArtificiaI Lift - AWV



ArtificiaI Iift - Additional energy (e.g., gas lift or pumping) put into a well to
maximize flow if production rate is inadequate.





AsphaItenes - High MW polyaromatic components that form in crude oil
during high pressure drop. They are most likely to precipitate as a reservoir
fluid is depressurized toward bubble point or as saturate components are
added to the liquid phase.







AVS - Abandon VesseI (or Platform- APS) Shutdown (or Post Emergency
Shutdown) A signal or command generated by the host facility's safety
system to shut down the complete field in the event of a catastrophe.

aII VaIve - CHC

aII vaIve - A quickly opening pipeline valve with a bored-through, rotating
ball that seals against the valve seats, perpendicular to the valve bore in the
valve's inlet and outlet ports. The valve can be opened or closed with one-
quarter turn of the ball.




OM - iII of MateriaI. An itemized list of all parts of a unit, system or
assembly. t provides component numbers, descriptions, quantities, drawing
item numbers, and latest revision information for each part. Cameron's
BOMs also list applicable engineering specifications.




CAMTROL - 1. This is Cameron's trademark for its Electro-Hydraulic
production control system oil and gas. 2. CAMTROL ProtocoI a special
set of rules that govern communication from topside to subsea.




Choke - A gauged restriction inserted into a fluid flow line to restrict the flow
rate.





CHC - Cameron HorizontaI Connector-is a system for connecting
flowlines and export lines. The CHC performs the same function as the
CVC. nstead of having a vertical orientation, the CHC is mated horizontally.

XT - DCS


Christmas tree (XT) - An array of valve blocks and valves fitted to a
production or injection wellhead to control the flow of produced
hydrocarbons or injected water or gas.





CIeanIiness LeveI - A measure, compared to a standard, of the relative
particulate contamination of a fluid. Cleanliness level is most often reported
based upon U.S. National Aerospace Standard (NAS) 1638, using
contamination limits of Class 00 through Class 12. Alternatively, SO 4406
reports contamination levels equivalent to NAS from 8/5 through 21/18.




CVC - Cameron VerticaI Connector)"-The CVC is a field-proven
system for connecting flow lines and export lines.








DCS - Distributed ControI System - A control system that allows multiple
control stations. The CAMTROL system Master Control Station usually
interfaces with the host facility's distributed control system. (Sometimes
known as an ntegrated Control System, or Platform Automation System.)

DHPT- DownhoIe Pressure/Temperature or DownhoIe Pressure and
Temperature or DHPTT - DownhoIe Pressure and Temperature
Transmitter - A monitoring device that provides pressure and temperature
data from the well. t is located on the tubing hanger below the Surface
Controlled Subsea Safety Valve (SCSSV).






DIN - Deutsche Industrie-Normen. German ndustrial Standards,
comparable to British Standards and standards published in the USA by
ANS, ASME, and AP.






DLRT - Deepwater LiftIine Running TooI. Specialized tool used to install
retrievable equipment in remote or deepwater locations.









DriII Center - Area on the sea floor upon which subsea equipment is
arranged to accommodate optimum production.

SCM - Iectric Subsea ControI ModuIe. The subsea control module for
CameronDC electric subsea system.















DU - mergency Disconnect Unit - aIso caIIed "DC - A unit
consisting of a multi-way remotely operated hydraulic and electrical stab
plate at the LMRP/BOP stack interface, allowing the work over functions to
be disconnected between the tree and the work over umbilical during
emergency situations.






L - IectricaI Iying Lead - Carries power and communications signals
between items of subsea control equipment, most often from the SDU to the
SCM on a tree or manifold.






-H MUX Iectro-HydrauIic MuItipIex ControI System - A system,
usually used in deepwater, which uses electrical signals to function
hydraulics closer to the subsea equipment. The system uses electronic
signals that are recoded and transmitted through a conductor pair,
eliminating the need for a dedicated conductor pair for each required signal.

PU - IectricaI Power Unit - Provides regulated surface and subsea
power for a production control system.




SD - mergency Shutdown - A sequence, initiated by a signal from a
control system on the FPSO, or manually by a person on the FPSO or
MODU, in which wells in a drill center or a complete field are shut-in.





LT - IowIine nd Termination. (Sometimes called a PLET Pipeline
End Termination)- Mechanically joins production fluid supply lines or
injection line that run from manifolds to/from trees.




PS0 - Ioating Production, Storage and OffIoading vesseI A ship
that processes, stores, and offloads to tankers and pipelines the gas or oil
brought up from subsea.

HL - HydrauIic Iying Lead- Carries hydraulic and chemical supplies
subsea from the UTA to the SDU and to manifolds and the SCMMB on
trees.




HMI - Human Machine Interface. The screen, mouse and keyboard on
the Master Control Station (MCS) that allows an operator to command the
subsea system and read back data from subsea.



HPU - HydrauIic Power Unit- Provides hydraulic pressure to subsea in a
drilling or production control system.




Hydrate - A compound formed by the chemical union of water with a
molecule of some other substance. Gas hydrates formed from water and
methane, for example, may cause plugging of the tubing and flowlines of
gas wells or gas transmission lines.




Hydra"uad - Cameron's patented four-port hydraulic coupler designed for
subsea applications. The pressure-balanced, pressure-energized, metal-
sealing hydraulic connector provides four functions in a small footprint. t is
used to link the directional control valve to the external hydraulic connector.

HydrauIic ControI Iuid - LVDT


HydrauIic ControI Iuid is a control liquid mixture to provide lubricity,
anti-foaming, anti-freeze, anti-corrosion and anti-bacterial characteristics.
Under pressure, it provides the motive power for valve actuation in the MUX
control system and ultimately for the functioning of the subsea system.
Three types of hydraulic control fluid are: mineral oil based, water-glycol-
based, and synthetic hydrocarbon-based. Hydraulic control fluid for direct
hydraulic control type or synthetic for closed-loop systems is sometimes
mineral-oil-based.






IWOCS - Intervention (or InstaIIation) Workover ControI System - A
system to allow installation, intervention and maintenance activities on a
subsea production system






umper - connects flowlines to manifolds and manifolds to trees; contain
rated working pressures; accommodates thermal expansion, contraction
and misalignment; insulated for hydrate prevention.





LVDT - Linear VariabIe DifferentiaI Transformer Typically used for
choke position indication with a linear electrical current loop output (4-20
mA).

MandreI - MCS

MandreI - The lifting and latching mechanism in a subsea control module or
subsea accumulator module. The latching mechanism is on the bottom, the
lifting on the top.



ManifoId - A piping arrangement and associated equipment, including those
items required to commingle produced fluids or to distribute fluids or
chemicals to template wells of satellites. t allows one stream of liquid or gas
to be divided into two or more streams.
ManifoId (CIuster Type) A cluster manifold is a stand-alone structure that
directs fluids for multiple Christmas trees placed around it.



ManifoId (PLM type) directs fluids for one or two subsea Christmas
trees. t generally connects directly to a subsea flow line without the use of a
pipeline end termination.







ManifoId (TempIate Type) - The template manifold is a drill-through
structure designed to house multiple subsea Christmas trees in close
proximity.





MCS - Master ControI Station - The main interface and control unit for a
subsea (production control) system, also known as SCP (Subsea Control
Panel).

MSM - P.I.G.


MSM - Main SuppIy ModuIe. The MSMs are located in the center of the
EPU and are supplied from separate A and B channels from the UPS. Two
MSMs provide A and B power to subsea output modules (SOMs) for
powering the umbilical loads. Other MSMs provide power to topside output
modules (TOMs) for powering the MCS and HPU PLCs.




NAS - NationaI Aerospace Standard. Procurement Specification NAS
1638, "Cleanliness Requirements of Parts Used in Hydraulic Systems, is
used by the industry to define the cleanliness level pertaining to the
hydraulic control fluid. A NAS Level 6, which corresponds to SO Code SAE
J1165 Level 15/12, is recommended.


PSD - Process mergency Shutdown A process where entire fields of
wells are shut-in in the event of an emergency in the process control
system.

PSD Process shutdown. Certain wells or drill centers are shut-in.




PTU - PortabIe Iectronic Test Unit. A device that tests the status of
subsea equipment. The PETU consists of a laptop PC, an electrical power
supply, a modem, and interconnection test cables.




P.I.G. - PipeIine Inspection Gauge. Pig - A piece of equipment used to
clean or monitor the internal condition of a pipeline or to mark an interface
between two different products. A pig is inserted into a pipeline and carried
along by the flow of oil or gas.

PLM - PipeIine nd ManifoId - A PLET with a manifold incorporated into
it. See also Manifold (PLEM) above.






PLT - PipeIine nd Termination. See also FLET. Mechanically joins pipe
to the manifold.





PMV - Production Master VaIve. Closest to the well, it isolates the well
from chemical injection. On injection trees: MV njection Master Valve.



PRCM - Power ReguIation ControI ModuIe. The retrievable control
module on the CameronDC electric tree that detects the communications
signal on the power cable and converts high voltage subsea.












PSD - Production Shutdown - The platform shuts down production subsea
in the event of major process upset. A controlled shutdown sequence.

PT - Pressure Transmitter. Mounted on the subsea tree, the PT measures
wellbore pressure.

PTT - Pressure Temperature Transmitter. Mounted on the subsea tree,
the PPT measures wellbore pressure and temperature.


PPT - Production Pressure Transmitter. Mounted on the subsea tree, the
PPT measures wellbore pressure.




PV - Pigging VaIve. A ball or gate valve that closes off flow for pigging of
pipelines or flowlines.

PWV - Production Wing VaIve - A FLS USV 5-1/8 10K WP Gate Valve
mounted between the Production Choke and Cameron Vertical Connector
used for isolating the tree from other subsea equipment.



RIU - Remote Interface Unit. (see ROT)

ROT - Remote Operators TerminaI. Used interchangeably with RU. t's a
terminal similar to the HM A or B on the MCS. Some have full functionality,
others are only capable of monitoring.

ROV - SAMM


ROV - RemoteIy Operated VehicIe - An unmanned submersible craft that
can be used for observation, hydrographic surveys, or working. Also called
remotely controlled vehicle (RCV).





SacrificiaI Anode - A ring or slab of metal placed on a key part of an
underwater structure in order to protect it from corrosion; the seawater
attacks the anode rather than the structure and its components.






SAM - Subsea AccumuIator ModuIe. Provides additional accumulation of
hydraulic power for the control system. t is usually located within the SDU.



SAMM - Subsea AccumuIator ModuIe Mounting ase. nterface
between SAM and parent unit (usually the SDU, occasionally on the tree,
next to the SCMMB.)

SCM - Subsea ControI ModuIe - A pressure-compensated vessel, filled
with dielectric fluid. t controls the hydraulic and associated functions on the
subsea trees and manifold (including SCSSV) and acquires data for
transmission to the surface from the subsea instrumentation.





SCMM - Subsea ControI ModuIe Mounting ase - The interface
between SCM and Christmas tree or manifold.




SCSSV - Surface ControIIed, Subsurface Safety VaIve - The primary
pressure barrier between the well and a Christmas tree.












SDU - Subsea Distribution Unit - Distributes hydraulic and electrical
signals from the umbilical to trees.









SM - Subsea Iectronics ModuIe. The vessel inside the SCM
containing the electronic components for power and communications.

SIT - Tubing Hanger





SIT - System Integration Testing - Original testing of a completed system
on land. Depending upon the complexity of the project, this testing may be
referred to as Factory ntegration Testing (FT).







SOM - Subsea Output ModuIe - The single channel modular power supply
assembly installed within the EPU to provide redundant power supply to
each umbilical.





SOV - SoIenoid VaIve - An electrical coil-operated valve that controls a
hydraulic or pneumatic function or pilot signal.









TOM - Topside Output ModuIe - Located in the center rack of most EPUs,
they supply power to and monitor electrical condition of the topside
equipment. Usually, two TOMs power the MCS; the other two power the
HPU's PLC.






Tubing hanger - A concentric mechanical device with side outlets and
penetrations. t locks and seals to the topmost tubing joint of the SpoolTree
body to support the tubing string.

TUTU - Topside UmbiIicaI Termination Unit - Allows termination of
electrical and hydraulic supplies at a platform or topside vessel.





UmbiIicaI - A control hose bundle or multi-conductor electrical cable used to
control subsea functions and to inject chemicals.







UPS - UninterruptibIe Power SuppIy - A system that converts normal AC
power to DC and then reconverts it to AC using an inverter; it thereby
provides a continuous, reliable, and clean source of power in critical
situations. t contains a battery backup system that supplies the DC power
to the inverter for emergency use when the normal power supply fails.






UTA - UmbiIicaI Termination AssembIy - An assembly for terminating the
subsea end of the umbilical and for facilitating its deployment. t provides the
necessary mechanical, electrical and hydraulic interfaces for the jumpers
that interconnect the umbilical's individual electrical conductors and
hydraulic and chemical conduits with the remainder of the subsea
equipment. Sometimes called an SUT (Subsea Umbilical Termination.)










VM - VaIve Iectronic ModuIe. Controls and monitors the solenoid valves
in the SCM.

AA - AnnuIus Access - A point of entry to the space between two concentric objects, such as between the
casing and tubing or wellbore and casing, where fluid can flow.


AC - AIternating Current - an electric current that reverses direction sinusoidally; "In the US most household
current is AC at 60 cycles per second".

ACC - AccumuIator - A vessel for temporary storage of hydraulic fluid usually used to ensure continuous
operation. Accumulators are located on the SAM subsea and in the HPU topside.

AnaIog - A description of a continuously variable signal or a circuit or device designed to handle such
signals.

AnaIog Data Transmitter - is an intrinsically safe device that transmits standard current signals (0 - 20 mA)
from safe areas to hazardous areas. t is typically used to drive /P converters (for valve control) or display
devices in hazardous locations.

Associated gas - Natural gas found in association with oil, either dissolved in the oil or as a cap of free gas
above the oil.

ATM - Atmosphere. A unit of measure for pressure. One atm = 1.01325 bar or 14.696 psi.

AUV - Autonomous Underwater VehicIes. Preprogrammed ntelligent ntervention System.

ar or arg - Unit of pressure. One bar equals 14.504 psi or 0.987 atmospheres (atm).

oosting - Using a pump to add pressure.

ypass VaIve - A valve by which fluid flow may be shunted past a part of the system through which it
normally flows; a valve that controls an alternate route for liquid or gas.

CANbus - A protocol developed by automobile manufacturers enabling a vehicle's on-board computer
diagnostic system to output standardized data streams.

Cavitation - The formation of space in a flowing liquid created by a fixed object in its path or in stationary
liquid created by a moving object, for example, the space created behind the blades of an agitator or in a
pump that has been incorrectly primed.

Check VaIve - A valve that allows flow in one direction only.

Choke Line - A high-pressure line to transmit fluid to the choke manifold during well control operations.

CPU - CentraI Processing Unit. n a control panel, the unit that comprises the arithmetic logic unit and the
control unit.

DigitaI - Technique of representing a sensor's input as a numeric data stream (after conversion from analog
input signal). E.g., all marine seismic, including high resolution, relies on multi-channel digital techniques
rather than analog.

Diode - A rectifier (a device for converting alternating current into direct current) that consists of a semi-
conducting crystal with two terminals; it is analogous in use to an electron tube diode. See also LED.

DMA - Direct Memory Access. Allows transferring data from main memory to a device without passing it
through the CPU.

DownhoIe Safety VaIve - A valve fitted to the production tube of a well some distance below the seabed
that permits flow to be stopped in an emergency.

DP - Dynamic Positioning. Method by which a floating offshore drilling rig is maintained in position over an
offshore well location without the use of mooring anchors. Generally, several propulsion units, called
thrusters, are located on the hulls of the structure and are actuated by a sensing system. A computer to
which the system feeds signals directs the thrusters to maintain the rig on location.

Dry tree - A surface wellhead and Christmas tree, often located on a tension leg platform or a SPAR.

DuaI compIetion - A mechanical arrangement within the well that permits production from two reservoirs
separately and/or simultaneously. Often two strings of tubing are run within one production string of casing
to provide production outlets from two perforated intervals that are separated by packers. This is often called
sliding sleeve completion.

SCM Electric Subsea Control Module. The subsea control module for CameronDC electric subsea
system.

SCMM - Electric Subsea Control Module Mounting Base. The permanently mounted interface with the
subsea facility being controlled. Allows the ESCM to be retrieved.

DU - mergency Disconnect Unit -((IWOCS (AKA "DC))- A unit consisting of a multi-way remotely
operated hydraulic and electrical stab plate at the LMRP/BOP stack interface, allowing the work over
functions to be disconnected between the tree and the work over umbilical during emergency situations.

Or IectricaI Distribution Unit-(PCS A junction box located in the Subsea Distribution Unit (SDU) that
receives power and communication from the Umbilical Termination Assembly (UTA) via an electrical flying
lead and distributes power and communications to each tree.

thernet - A local-area network (LAN) architecture developed by Xerox Corporation in cooperation with
DEC and ntel in 1976. Ethernet uses a bus or star topology and supports data transfer rates of 10 Mbps. t
is one of the most widely implemented LAN standards.

aiI-safe - Equipment or a system so constructed that, in the event of failure or malfunction of any part of
the system, devices are automatically activated to stabilize or secure the safety of the operation.

astScan Used to increase the update rate on data coming from a selected device or group of devices
subsea to topsideto DCS and/or MCS. t changes the polling list.

ITA - ieId InstaIIabIe Termination AssembIy.

LT - Iow Line nd Termination. See also PLET. Mechanically joins production fluid supply lines or
injection line that run from manifolds to/from trees.

IowIine umper - Jumper between manifolds and trees.

OC - iber Optic CabIe. An option in lieu of copper cable for transmitting data. Optical fibers, which may
be glass or plastic, are unidirectional. Glass fibers can operate at connection lengths up to 15,000 m, while
plastic fibers are limited to 80 m for OLM and 25 m for OLP.

PR - ieId Performance Reporting System - The tracking system used by Cameron to record and report
part failures or malfunctions in the field, to record corrective action taken in the field (if any), to assign
responsibility for further investigation and corrective action, and to document the results. ndividual FPRs are
maintained in Cameron's global database for generation of status reports and record-keeping purposes.

Gas Injection - The process whereby separated associated gas is pumped back into a reservoir for
conservation purposes or to maintain the reservoir pressure.

G anuc - General Electric: A brand name for a PLC. Often uses Cimplicty for controls software.

GIory HoIe - An indentation in the drill center to lower the profile of subsea equipment so it can escape
being hit by icebergs.

GIycoI Concentration - A measure of the percentage by weight of glycol present in a hydraulic fluid. The
addition of glycol is required for low temperature applications.

HOST - Hinge-Over Stab TempIate. nitial piece of equipment lowered to ocean floor, it serves as an
anchor for guidelines and has an opening in the center through which the bit passes.

Hot Line - An auxiliary hydraulic supply line used in start-up and in emergency situations when the conduit
valve package is not available or will not function.

Hot Stab - Guiding the end of a pipe into a tool joint when making up a connection while pressure is in the
line.

HP - High Pressure - As used to describe hydraulic system components, refers to the high-pressure
supply, Nominal 690 barg (10k PS), generated by the HPU for subsea use.

HW525 or HW540 - Water based hydraulic control fluid manufactured by MacDermid.

Hydrate point - The conditions of pressure and temperature of a gas under which hydrates will start to form
(in the presence of free water).

Hydrostatic Head - The pressure exerted by a column of fluid, equaling the height of the column times the
fluid density.

Ice SIurry - A condition that occurs when water freezes in a hydrocarbon, forming a slush or solid that
affects viscosity and flow rate.

Injection weII - A well used to inject gas or water into the formation to maintain reservoir pressure in
secondary recovery or (in the case of gas) for conservation purposes.

InterfIow - The power control fluid lost (vented to the sea) during the travel of the piston in a control valve as
the valve is actuated or returned.

Intervention - Action taken to interrupt a system's regular function. Can be planned, contingency or
emergency.

I/O - Input/Output. Electronic signals.

IWATS - nstallation/Workover Autonomous Test System.

IWOCS - Intervention (or InstaIIation) Workover ControI System - A system to allow installation,
intervention and maintenance activities on a subsea production system

IWV -Injection Wing VaIve A FLS USV 5-1/810K WP Gate Valve mounted between the njection Choke
and Cameron Vertical Connector used for isolating from the njection Gas or Water.

LAN - LocaI Area Network.

LD - Light mitting Diode. An electronic device that lights up when electricity passes through it. Usually

red, LEDs are good for displaying images because they can be relatively small and they do not burn out.
However, they require more power than LCDs require.

LMRP - Lower Marine Riser Package An assembly of BOP control equipment, located at the top of the
BOP Stack assembly, connecting the riser, control fluids and electrical control and supply.

Logic PIate (or Cap) - A plate on an SDU used to switch from a failed hydraulic line to its spare.

LP - Low Pressure - As used to describe hydraulic system components, refers to the low-pressure supply,
Nominal 340 barg (5k PS) generated by the HPU for subsea use.

MethanoI Injection - Subsea production equipment and umbilicals provide the capability to inject methanol
into a line down hole, a procedure designed to prevent hydrate formation. For example, methanol may be
injected into the tree between the PMV and PWV and into a line ending above the SCSSV.

MHV - ManifoId Header VaIve - A 5-1/4 10K WP Gate Valve with override used for isolation of the Water
and Gas njection supplies.

MODbus - Communication fieldbus protocol developed by Modicon; widely used in SCADA and process
control applications.

NeedIe VaIve - A globe valve with shut-off capability that incorporates a needlepoint disk to produce
extremely fine regulation of flow
Off-take pattern - Schedule (or pattern) specifying the desired rate of hydrocarbon withdrawal from wells,
reservoirs, and platforms to meet sales or other forecasts.

OL - Object Linking and mbedding. A software programming technique that connects one document to
another by either linking or embedding.

OLM - OpticaI Link ModuIe. A fiber optic device that converts conventional signals to light pulses that can
be transmitted on glass or plastic fiber optic cable.

P-10 to P-90 - Also called a Case. Owner/operator's probability of extra reservoir volume. Unique to each
reservoir.

PLT Header VaIve - Valve that controls the flow from a header to smaller pipes or conduits, such as the
manifold.

PSD - Process mergency Shutdown A process where entire fields of wells are shut-in in the event of
an emergency in the process control system.

PRV - Pressure ReIief VaIve (see Relief Valve)

PLC - ProgrammabIe Logic ControIIer. Device used to manage or control another device or devices that
govern the operation of a system or process. An operator, using an attached computer, can program the
controller to maintain a given set of desirable circumstances and to respond to changes or upsets in the
system or process using ladder logic.

Pour Point - The temperature at which a hydrocarbon turns to solid.

PPT - Production Pressure Transmitter. Mounted on the subsea tree, the PPT measures wellbore
pressure.

Pressure ReIief VaIve - A device that is built into a hydraulic or pneumatic system to relieve (dump) any
excess pressure. t is set to relieve at a prescribed pressure above normal operating pressure; also called a
relief valve, safety valve, or pop valve.

Profibus - Vendor-independent open fieldbus standard for use in manufacturing and building automation as
well as process control. Utilizes a non-powered two-wire (RS485) network. PROFBUS is standardized
under the European Fieldbus Standard EN 50 170.

PSV - Pressure Safety VaIve See RV (Relief Valve)

Pump - Mechanical devices to transport fluids from one vessel to another along pipelines. There are a wide
variety of pumps of three general types: reciprocating, gear, and centrifugal. The choice depends on the
pressure at which the liquid is to be pumped (delivery head), quantity and nature of the liquid (viscosity,
corrosive nature, etc.), and availability of prime movers (electric motors, pneumatic supply, etc).

ReeI (Hose or CabIe) - A reel, usually power-driven, that stores, lets out, and takes up umbilicals, either
control hose bundles or electrical cables.

ReguIator (Pressure) - A hydraulic device that reduces upstream supply pressure to a desired (regulated)
level. t may be manual or remotely operated and, once set, will automatically maintain the regulated output
pressure until it is reset.

RV - ReIief VaIve A device used to protect equipment from damage which has a preset point of release
for excess pressure.

RPR - RetrievabIe Parking ReceptacIe. A place subsea where an ROV can rest a component temporarily.
t can be removed from one location and placed in another.

Running TooI - Specialized tools used to run equipment in a well, such as a wireline running tool for
installing retrievable gas-lift valves. Various tubing-type running tools are also used.

SC - SeriaI Communication - Communication in a single line as opposed to parallel communication.

SCSI (pronounced "scuzzy") - SmaII Computer Systems Interface

SCSSV - Surface ControIIed, Subsurface Safety VaIve - The primary pressure barrier between the well
and a Christmas tree.

SCU - Surface ControI Unit - A unit that contains all the components necessary to supply, control and
monitor the functions of the Subsea Electronic Module within an SCM during workover, installation or
intervention.

SDU - Subsea Distribution Unit - Distributes hydraulic and electrical signals from the umbilical to trees.

ShuttIe VaIve - A valve that receives fluid from either of the two supply sources and directs it to a single
outlet.

SIS - Safety Instrumented System - The host vessel's safety system that interfaces with the DCS/MCS.

Skid Mounted - A pumping unit or other oil field equipment that has no permanent or fixed foundation but is
welded or bolted to metal runners. Skid-mounted offshore units are usually readily movable by pulling as a
sled or by hoisting onto a vessel. They are then normally welded into their operating positions.

SLRT - Shallow water Liftline Running Tool. See DLRT.

Stab - To guide the male end of a device into a female receptacle when making up a connection.

Subsea ControI System - Subsea production/injection control systems include those controlling single
satellite wells or multi-well manifold template systems. Each system is comprised of a surface-installed
master control station and hydraulic/electric power units, as well as umbilicals and control equipment
installed subsea on the tree or template (e.g., SDUs and SCMs), hydraulic/electric lines to actuators, and
electric coupler on the Christmas Tree. nstallation/workover control systems, down-hole sensors, actuators,
and hydraulic couplings in the tree cap are not included.

THPU - Test HydrauIic Power Unit - Definition: A hydraulic power unit used onshore to test the function
of subsea equipment prior to installation.

TransAqua HT - A water-based hydraulic control fluid supplied by Castrol.

Transducer - A device that is actuated by power from one system and supplies power, usually in another
form, to a second system.

Transmission Rates - PROFBUS networks using shielded, twisted-pair cables operate at the following
rates: 9.6 Kbps, 19.2 Kbps, 93.75 Kbps, 187.5 Kbps, 500 Kpbs, 1.5 Mbps, 3 Mbps, 6 Mbps, and 12 Mbps.
PROFBUS networks using optical components operate at the following rates. For OLM: 9.6 Kbps, 19.2
Kbps, 93.75 Kbps, 187.5 Kbps, 500 Kpbs, 1.5 Mbps. For OLP: 93.75 Kbps, 187.5 Kbps, 500 Kpbs, 1.5
Mbps.
Tubing hanger - A concentric mechanical device with side outlets and penetrations. t locks and seals to the
topmost tubing joint of the SpoolTree body to support the tubing string.

UTIS - UniversaI Tie-In System. Used during ST to stack up subsea equipment for testing.

VaIve - A device to control or regulate the flow of fluids through pipes. The main types are needle, gate,
globe, shuttle, check, ball, plug, relief, and shear-type sealing.

Wax - Solid hydrocarbon present in some crude oils, especially in paraffinic crudes. Wax deposits in
pipelines and equipment can cause mechanical problems or restrict flow.

WeIIhead - The surface termination of a wellbore. The wellhead incorporates facilities for installing casing
hangers during the well construction phase. The wellhead also incorporates a means of hanging the
production tubing and installing the Christmas tree and surface flow-control facilities in preparation for the
production phase of the well.

WireIine - Any line or cable used for downhole operations. There are normally two types of wireline: piano -
a thin, single strand of high-tensile steel that is used to lower instruments or tools into a well; electric -
wirelines that are normally used for surface recording instruments such as logs.

WOC - Workover ControI. A system to allow intervention and maintenance activities on a production
system.

WOC HPU - Work Over ControI HydrauIic Power Unit.

Workover - The process whereby a completed production well is subsequently re-entered and any
necessary cleaning, repair, and maintenance work performed.

XMR - Transformer (eIectricaI) - An inductive device that converts AC electrical power from one voltage
level to another.
