Dreambox 8000HD PVR setup This is a guide to how I have setup my dreambox, together with a hard disk &

DVD drive. DVD Drive = Samsung SN-S083A/BEBN HD = 500GB SATA (cant remember type) Images The dreambox arrives with an image already loaded (into its flash memory). You can load other images from a CF card, USB stick or from the HD. First we want to install a flash image, so get hold of an image that you would like to use and a copy of DreamUp. A lot of people use the OoZooN image as it updates the drivers but I used Nabilosat DM8000 Pure Flash including Barry Allen, as I could not get the network to work in OoZooN. Installing an image If your dreambox is connected to your network via a router, make sure the router has DHCP switched on. To find the IP address boot the dreambox with your finger held on the down button on the front panel, the IP address will appear in the front panel. 1. Make sure you turn off your dreambox via the switch on the back, and then connect the dreambox to your pc via LAN and serial cable. LAN I plug straight into the pc as my router causes problems but other peoples dont and start DreamUp. 2. Now you have to choose the COM port, tick the use network box and enter your IP addresses of both your pc and dreambox, do this before doing these steps. Note if you dont have a proper RS232 interface in your PC, this wont work. I had no success using a USB to RS232 adapter. Start DreamUp first before re-connecting the dreambox to your PC. I found that if I didnt do this, I couldnt choose the network option to flash.

3. Next press connect then turn on your dreambox. 4. You should then get a message saying, Box is in networked HTTP mode.

5. Now you need to flash an image so select the Flash button and load the image you want and it should install. So you have just installed the flash image, if you wish to install multiple images you need to use Barry Allen.

Installing Barry Allen and add-ons. Make sure you install Barry Allen, dvb module updates and second stage bootloader updates to the flash image (see later) Install Barry Allen Via FTP 1. Connect to your dreambox via FTP and put the Barry Allen file (ipk) into the temp directory (/tmp) 2. Go to add-ons (Blackhole = green button then yellow button) and you should see manual install .ipk, select it and you should see the file you have put in your temp directory (If the image you have used has add-ons in a different place you may find it via the menu button then plugins). 3. Click on it to install (the file will be removed from your temp directory once installed) and your dreambox should restart. Job done Barry Allen installed. Install multiple images with Barry Allen 1. First you will need to FTP the image you wish to install to /media/hdd/MB_Images 2. Go to Plugins (green button in Blackhole) and select Barry Allen 3. Select : wizard for images at /MB_Images and choose the image you wish to install and the image will be installed Now that you have installed another image you will need to select it for booting so. 4. Again in Barry Allen Select: wizard for installed images Then Select installed image for booting and select the image you wish to boot, the dreambox will then re-boot in the image you have selected. Update Barry Allen To update Barry Allen all you need to do if follow the first and second steps of the install Barry Allen via FTP section. Card sharing on a local network with CCcam 2.0.11 To card share on a local network you need to install cccam 2.0.11 from the add-ons section then add these two lines to your cccam config file. You can find the config file in /etc file name CCcam.cfg

Office is an example you can have anything you like as long as they match in the F and C lines. Server (with card) F: office office Client (person receiving) (Add the server IP address) C: 192.168.1.1** 12000 office office If you want to create a loop so no matter where the card is each box will get it just add an F line a C line to each config file make sure the F lines are different. You can use the ones if have done here.

Box 1 F: study study Add box 2 IP address C: 192.168.1.1** 12000 office office

Box 2 F: office office Add box 1 IP address C: 192.168.1.1** 12000 study study

Updating dvb module and second stage bootloader to the flash image There is a post on Satpimps by X5 on how to do this:http://www.satpimps.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=105493 Telnet to dreambox You can telnet into the dreambox. On a PC Start -> Run -> Command (or CMD) Then type in Telnet and the ip address of your dreambox e.g. Telnet 192.168.1.200 You are now a dumb terminal to the linux session on the dreambox. You can issue commands from this session, one useful one is to install plugins. Ipkg install /tmp/pakagename.ipk

Network I set the dreamboxs IP address outside the range of the DHCP server. This means a non-DHCP address when setting up. The advantage is :- the address is permanent I always know what its IP is.

This tells you the sate of various parts of your dreambox.

Press Blue (Setting) from the Blue Panel and you get

From here you can do the next task I am going to talk about. Swap file If the RAM in use (seen from the info screen) is running low, you are best to install a swap file onto the hard disk (or USB|CF)

Mounting an external drive I have a media library on my networked server and to allow the DM to play media, we need to add a mount networked drive. Nb. Files with DTS audio are not supported at the moment. Press Menu on the remote, select Setup, select System, select Network Then select your network adapter Select NetworkBrowser

Select the PC where your files are stored The PC must have sharing enabled and the share name should not have gaps in it. My Server is set up to allow complete sharing on the LAN.

Go to Mountpoints management

You can see the newly added drive. You can play files from this drive using Media Player You can see which drives are connected by the icons on the left-hand side of the display.

Cooling Heres what my DM looks like

A small fan is located in the HD cage

And a large one over the power supply

Heres the cable I used

And it is connected to the power supply

To make the fans run at 7v (quieter) rather than at 12v, I rewired the fan cable:-

Red (Fan) to Yellow (Power) Black(Fan) to Red (Power)

The Dreambox VIP forum gives details on controlling the fan via software you would have to have a fan with 3 wires and connect to the fan connector underneath the HD cage. (I havent tried this myself) The fan can be controlled.... Code:
echo c0 > /proc/stb/fp/fan_vlt echo 8f > /proc/stb/fp/fan_pwm

If it runs too slow for you, you can change the value in the second line from 8f to cf or whatever you like. 00 to ff are possible. You can try this in telnet. Put these two lines at the end of the bootup file in /etc/int.d/ if you want the settings applied at bootup. You can try these settings from Telnet.
