WISE UP...LOOK UP...WATCH OUT...

BY DR. HAYES WICKER...A SERIES OF BIBLICAL MESSAGES

Hearts and Minds that Matter

You dont have to be Smarter than a fifth grader to read the signs of times. In fact you dont have to have the intelligence of a couple who married Dr. Robert Jarvik, the principal architect of the Jarvik-7 artificial heart, and Marilyn Vos Savant, who according to the Guinness Book of World Records, has an IQ of 228. Her IQ qualified her not only to be a member of Mensa but also the Mega Society, a club for super-geniuses. He was a famous face, one of the men beneath the eye patches in Hathaway Shirt ads. Interestingly, Marilyn is disdainful of intelligence tests, which she describes as wildly inaccurate. She found college too narrow and dropped out to be a writer. At 16, after watching surgical procedures at his fathers side, Jarvik invented an automatic surgical stapler. He was also rejected by more than 15 medical schools. He designed matching gold-trimmed wedding rings for the two of them out of pyrolytic carbon which lasts forever or until God dissolves the present creation (2 Peter 3:10). Vos Savant was asked on a talk show if she knew when the world would end. She did not know, but a fan of hers wrote: Anyone with a third grade education knows the world will end when Christ comes again! As I begin the study, A Guided Tour Through the End Times, we must work on our memories as a part of Gods spiritual intelligence test: Remember the words spoken by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by the apostles (2 Peter 3:2). Throughout the prophecies of the Old Testament and in the words of Jesus we are given Gods eschatology, the study of end time events. We must also have Gods true knowledge: For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night (1 Thessalonians 5:1-2). A man told me, If God really wanted us to understand these things, why didnt He make them clearer in the Bible? But God has given us all that we need for the basics, even though there may be varying interpretations because of the nature of mans fallibility. We can, as 2 Peter 3:3-5 says, Know this first of all even though it has escaped their notice. The key is that it is all by His Word (2 Peter 3:8). Remember that No prophecy of scripture is a matter of ones own interpretation but by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:20-21). The world will end, not when Christ comes again, but after His 1,000-year reign on earth, when He is ready to establish His new order. We must receive not an artificial but a new, cleansed heart, knowing that God Is not willing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). One day as His Bride He will Receive us to Himself when He comes again (John 14:3). So wise up, straighten up, watch out, and look up!

How studying Prophecy 101 helps you to read Gods road signs. How promises made long ago and far away give you a Happy Hope. How left behind does not have to be your story. How you can get ready for Christs Exit Strategy. How you can make sense of the mess in the Middle East and know Who wins and who loses.

The Widows Oil ministry was birthed in Janets heart after speaking at an annual Pastors Wives Conference in Kaduna, Nigeria in 2009. One of the offerings collected at the conference was for the widows of pastors wives. Janet was overwhelmed at the number of widows and the range of ages. Women in a Muslim culture have few, if any, rights. When her husband dies, she has no rights to his possessions. The next male in line can take all that was owned from the home to the children. This leaves many women homeless and destitute. Though the Christian community is reaching out to assist these widows, the need far exceeds the means. Many times the Muslim relatives of the widow use this as an opportunity to persecute her for her faith in Christ. This information compelled us to begin a helps ministry to widowed pastors wives. The goal is to establish (with the womens leadership of the Nigerian Baptist Convention) a means of helping these women provide an income for themselves by gifting them with goats and feed or a sewing machine and material to begin a small business. The purchase of this devotional will help offset the start up costs for this vital ministry to our sisters- in- Christ in Nigeria.

Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. James 1:27

Red Shoes Prayer Walking Ministry

Often we are so busy evangelizing the world that we forget our neighborhoods are the greatest and most forgotten mission fields. Red Shoes are small groups of women walking together through neighborhoods praying...all wearing red shoes, white clothes, and a smile. These groups will also be gathering for coffee, fellowship, and updates. Our prayer is that people will start realizing what we are doing and ask us to pray for their needs. Relationships can then be built and we can invite them to Bible studies and church from there, as well as share Jesus with them.

We will be at a table in the Commons next weekend with more information! Please stop by and see what God is up to!

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

She was a businesswoman in Kabul, Afghanistan. She was also a mom and wife, married to a man with a prestigious government job. Then the Taliban showed up. They mercilessly killed her husband. Her children were taken from her. Shirin eventually left Afghanistan, joining thousands of other refugees migrating through Iran, Turkey and Greece toward the hope of a better life. Thanks to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, Shirin found a refugee center in Europe run by Southern Baptist workers. The center provides showers, meals and groceries to 275 people a week. Each refugees story is unique, yet all share common threads. Shirin wants freedom to live as she chooses. She wants

Refugees find Jesus

rest from the battles that have shredded her home and her family. She wants respect as a Hazara, a marginalized minority in Afghanistan. She is also spiritually hungry. Southern Baptist workers find that many refugees like Shirin are ready to hear the news that Jesus loves them. Many have not had the opportunity, living in places where the Gospel message is not welcomed. A Persian pastor who was once a refugee himself speaks of the hope Shirins looking for. Jesus made it possible for people to run into the arms of God, the pastor explains. Jesus came to give life, not war.

Sermon Notes

No one likes the idea of being put in prison and losing his freedom. This week, we will learn that the value of the Law in the Old Testament was to teach us the freedom we have in Christ. Those who continue to live by the Law forfeit the freedom they have in Christ, choosing bondage. Sunday - Galatians 3:10-16 / Monday - Galatians 3:17-22 Tuesday - Galatians 3:23-29 / Wednesday - Galatians 4:1-7 Thursday - Galatians 4:8-18 / Friday - Galatians 4:19-26 Saturday - Galatians 4:27-5:1
