Location Details
14 15 N latitude, 80 08 E longitude 180 km north of Chennai Located in Nellore (District HQ of Andhra Pradesh), on National Highway 5 (Chennai-Kolkata) 26 km from Venkatachalam, the nearest rail head on the ChennaiKolkata main line Vast hinterland covering Southern Andhra Pradesh, Districts of Rayalseema, North Tamil Nadu and Eastern Karnataka Being on Eastern Coast, supports LOOK EAST Exim Trade Policy

Marine Infrastructure
10 operational berths. 3 more berths under Construction Deep draft of 16 mtrs alongside the berth, which will be increased to 20 mtrs in FY 2011-12 No beam & LOA restriction Breakwater sheltered harbor 1. 2. South breakwater of 2 km North breakwater of 1.5 km

Water front area of 161 sq. km, one of the largest in India Navigation Channel 1. 2. 3. Approach channel of 6.5 nm Channel width 250 mtrs, to be increased to 300 mtrs Channel depth 22 mtrs

One of the largest turning circles with a diameter of 500 mtrs, to be increased to 600 mtrs 3 cutter suction dredgers - 2 having a capacity of 500 CBM per hour & the third has a capacity of 2,500 CBM per hour. 3 trailer suction dredgers - Navayuga-1 is of 7,000 cbm capacity, Navayuga-2 is of 4,500 cbm capacity & Navayuga-6 is of 7,000 cbm capacity Other dedicated flotilla includes mooring launch / high speed pilot boats / barges / survey boats / high speed security cum patrol boats 3 dedicated tugs with Bollard pull of 60 tons, 50 tons & 40 tons respectively

Cargo Handling Facilities


8 Liebherr cranes: 2 nos. of LHM600 with 204 MT capacity & 6 nos. of LHM500 with 140 MT capacity; all having outreach of 52 mtrs 2 Gottwald cranes (GHMK6406) - 110 MT capacity, outreach of 46 mtrs 1 Sennebogen crane: model no.: 880EQ - Green line - Crawler Type - outreach of 33 mtrs - SWL in hook mode 35 mtrs & Grab mode 20 mtrs These cranes provide a discharge rate of 750 to 1,000 MT per hour per crane Dedicated port owned cargo handling equipment like tippers, loaders, excavators, dozers, etc.

13 weighbridges of 120 MT and 60 MT capacities and 2 In-motion Railway weighbridges. 12 new weighbridges will be build in the future of similar capacities Dedicated Railway sidings 4 for coal, 1 for iron ore, 3 for bagged cargo & 1 for granite cargo Locomotives - Presently 5 numbers 15 automatic bagging machines each with a capacity of 1,000 MT/day Night navigation: Round-the-clock pilotage

Storage Facilities

Upcoming Developments
Krishnapatnam Port is currently executing the Phase II development which has an outlay of Rs. 4,000 crores. Phase II will involve construction of: 7 additional berths 4 dedicated for Coal, 2 for General Cargo & 1 for Containers Mechanised cargo handling system with 11 cargo-wise dedicated railway sidings inside the port

On completion of Phase II, the port will have the following:


Coal Berths
10 dedicated Coal berths with 2 ship unloaders per berth Each ship unloader with a capacity of 2,000 TPH Conveyor system with a capacity up to 4,000 / 5,000 TPH 2 wagon loading stations. Each having a capacity to store 2,500 MT and each having a loading capacity of 3,500 MT in 2 hours

Iron Ore berth

Ship loader with a capacity of 5,000 TPH 2 Wagon Tipplers of 110 MT capacity, 30 tips per hour per tippler 2 Stacker-cum-reclaimer with a capacity of 3,000 / 5,000 TPH Conveyor with a capacity of 3,000 / 5,000 TPH

Project cargo berth


A dedicated berth to handle Over Dimensional project Cargo (ODC) Load bearing capacity of this berth to be 12 MT per sq. mtr, the highest for any berth in any port in India

General cargo berths

Rail sidings
11 dedicated cargo-wise rail sidings inside the port with multiple loops for faster evacuation of cargo

Pipeline infrastructure
Dedicated Edible oil pipeline 1. 2. 3. 16 diameter pipeline from Berth No. 2 connecting the edible oil refineries outside the port Length of the pipeline is 6.5 kms Discharge rate of 400 to 500 MT per hour

Future provision for dedicated pipelines for various liquid cargos like POL, Chemicals, Bitumen, etc. Proposed tank terminal of 1 lakh kilolitres Provision for future enhancements
