The Complete Marvel CBZ Collections ------------------------------------------------------------------Except for this readme file, every file in this collection can

be viewed with your favorite comic book reader. Unlike the commercial Marvel comic book collections, there are no use-restriction schemes employed with these files. There are no passwords, no encryption, no watermarked images. You can view, copy, extract, print, and manipulate the contents of this disk without limit. It will work well on any of the major computing platforms, i.e. Windows, Linux/Unix, Mac OS-X, and many others. You can copy the files to your hard drive or access them directly from the DVD. The comics are all in the popular .cbz format, so they can be read with your favorite comics viewing software. Unlike the .pdf file format, the .cbz file format is supported by a wide choice of snappy viewers offering a multitude of reading enhancement features. WHAT'S IN THIS COLLECTION Covers Index -----------View the ..._Covers_Index.cbz file to help you locate issues you are interested in. The Covers Index contains thumbnail pictures of every comic book in the collection. The cover images are grouped by year, with all the covers, for a given year, presented on a single page. The annuals covers are all gathered together on the last page of the Covers Index. The ..._Covers_Index.cbz file resides in the root directory/folder of the DVD. Bios ---The ..._Bios.cbz file contains biographical information on the character(s) featured in the collection. Read up on Spidey's web fluid or Wolverine's origin. Lots of cool artwork here, too. All in an easy-to-view .cbz file. The Bios file is located in the root directory of the DVD. Contents -------the ..._Contents.cbz file contains the menus graphics from the original commercial DVD. Some menus contain original artwork. Please note that due to the inherent limitations of the .cbz file format and due to the altered file and directory folder arrangement of this disk, the original menuing functionality could not be preserved. But at least you get to enjoy the menu graphics :-) The Contents file is located in the root directory of the DVD. Comic Book Archive Files -----------------------The remaining files on the DVD are all comic book archive files with the extension .cbz which stands for "comic book zipped". The images in these .cbz files are virtually the same unaltered images of those found on the commercial Marvel DVD collections. Only the file format and page layout has been altered. Any defects, over-cropping, blur, distortions, etc. are almost certainly those of the original.pdf files. Careful before-after comparisons were made to assure that the images remain complete and unchanged, and thus offer the same sharpness,

contrast, detail, etc. as the original commercial .pdf files. Replacement Cover Images -----------------------A few of the covers included in the original commercial collections were felt to be substandard, primarily because of inaccurate and tasteless recoloring, and have been replaced by images of the actual covers, taken from another source. Those issues with replaced cover images are as follows: X-Men 1-7, and Fantastic Four #1. The replacement images are the same size and match the other covers well in contrast and resolution. Clearly, some other covers beg to be replaced, but no other covers were so egregiously offensive as the ones mentioned. Double-Page Spreads ------------------Some of the comics in this collection may contain graphics which are displayed across two pages of the printed comic. It is recommended that such issues be viewed using a comic book reader which features a double-page mode. Turn the double-page mode on, when you encounter a double-page spread. You may also wish to zoom out, in order to see both pages entirely and together. .CBZ as the File Format of Choice --------------------------A .cbz file is nothing more than an archived collection of .jpg images, which typically contain one printed page per .jpg image. The .jpg image files are deflated and catenated into a single .cbz file by means of one of the standard zip archiving/compression utilities. The .cbz files are viewed using one of the many popular free comic book viewer applications, such as "CDisplay" for Windows, or "Comix" for Linux and Unix. These viewers are designed to open and display the archive file, one .jpg image at a time, in the intended viewing order. Comic book fans who have experience with both .cbz and .pdf file formats generally prefer the .cbz format. Comic book viewer applications are specialized and optimized for handling .cbz (and .cbr) files. The many viewer programs available for .cbz offer users a wide array of features intended to make digital comics reading easier and more enjoyable. Many comic reader features, such as color/contrast adjustments, and various reading modes, are not currently offered on .pdf document viewers. The .cbz format works equally well on Windows, Linux/Unix, and Mac OS-X. Free viewers are freely available for all of these platforms. The links below point to one for each platform, but you are encouraged to do a Google search and sample others.
