1-1 Overview
HP Insight Remote Support Standard and Advanced provides two types of functionality: 1. Submits Incidents when monitored systems in your enterprise have hardware problems 2. Optionally sends configuration collections to your hardware vendor so sales consultants can help you make the most efficient and cost effective future purchasing decisions Some customers have had problems verifying that all managed systems in their enterprises are configured to properly communicate with the Central Management Server/Hosting Device and to HP. The Service Health tab, initially released in Insight Remote Support version A.05.50, provides utilities that help resolve these problems. More information about the Service Health Tab is available from: Insight Remote Support Standard: Insight Remote Support Standard Hosting Device Configuration (http://www.hp.com/go/insightremotestandard-docs) Insight Remote Support Advanced: Insight Remote Support Advanced CMS Configuration and Usage Guide (http://www.hp.com/go/insightremoteadvanced-docs)

This Installation Advisor provides additional utilities that are suitable for both HP Insight Remote Support Advanced (Insight RSA) and HP Insight Remote Support Standard (Insight RSS) installations. These Utilities: Verify managed systems are communicating properly Collect all relevant log files if a problem is encountered Configure monitored endpoint devices to communicate properly Verify that Insight Remote Support data collections are working

1-2 Installation Advisor Contents

The Installation Advisor contains tools to configure and verify the function of the Central Management Server/Hosting Device and the managed devices in your environment. These tools can be used to test that a system is prepared to install the HP Insight Remote Support (Insight RS) software and to test that a previously installed HP Insight RS environment is still running properly.

1-3 Using the Installation Advisor

The Installation Advisor contains utilities to run on a Central Management Server/Host Device and Monitored HP-UX devices. The procedure for each device type is detailed below.

1-3-1 Using the Installation Advisor on the Central Management Server/Hosting Device
1-3-1-1 Install HP Insight Remote Support
Install HP Insight Remote Support Standard or Advanced as described in the remote support documentation. Discover devices, and configure data collections if desired.

1-3-1-2 Use LaunchWHC to verify that event protocols are configured properly
Use the Desta LaunchWHC utility to verify WEBES event protocols from endpoints to the Central Management Server/Hosting Device: IMPORTANT: This command only verifies WEBES connectivity. This command does not check systems monitored with OSEM. OSEM will be obsolete and replaced by WEBES in late 2009. Please see the migration appendix in the CMS migration utility document for further information. 1. Check your version of Web Based Enterprise Services (WEBES) through add/remove programs. If it is less than version 5.6 patch 1:
a. Run net stop desta_service b. Rename <InstallDir>/svctools/common/jars/WebesHealthChk.jar to

WebesHealthCheck.jar1
c. Place the WebesHealthChk.jar file from the Installation Advisor in this folder d. Run net start desta_service

2. Open a command window. For every device you are monitoring, execute desta.bat LaunchWHC hostname
a. This will generate output about the connection protocols used to communicate with the

device and their states. Ignore any output related to MC3 providers. The first section of output to pay attention to is the listing of device protocols used. For example: ELMC Protocol: DefaultELMC SNMP Protocol: DefaultSNMP WBEM Protocol: Not Assigned Use this output to determine what sections are relevant further down in the output. In this example we would want to check the information further down about the DefaultELMC and DefaultSNMP protocols, but ignore any problems reported with the WBEM protocol.
b. Scan the output to verify that no problems were reported for any of the protocols used. In

this example, the following example indicates that no problems were found with the ELMC Protocol. ----------------------ELMC Protocol Test

SUCCESS -> Protocol Name: DefaultELMC *Assigned* SUCCESS -> Protocol Name: CVEVA ----------------------c. Ignore any warnings or errors relating to unused protocols. In this example we would

ignore the following output because this protocol is not used. ----------------------WMI Protocol Test No WMI Protocols Defined ----------------------d. When warnings or errors are reported for protocols that are in use:

If a failure with a particular protocol is reported, determine if the protocol is really appropriate for the device. If the protocol is appropriate for the device, use the remote support documentation to troubleshoot and repair the protocol. The Installation Advisor contains utilities to help configure and set up protocols on monitored Windows and HP-UX devices. See sections below for more information. If the protocol is not appropriate for the device, you can remove the protocol using the Remote Support Standard and Advanced user interfaces. After repairing or removing the protocol for the device, you can re-run Desta.bat LaunchWHC hostname to verify that no more problems are reported.

1-3-1-3 Use InsightRsDataCollectionCheck to verify and/or trigger data collections

To test that monitored systems can run data collections, execute InsightRsDataCollectionCheck.exe. This will bring up the following user interface that lists all devices configured to send collections:

When the application opens it verifies the results of previously run collections. The date that the collections were run is displayed in the Collection Time column. Clicking Run Collection and Verify Results of Selected Devices will run a new collection on every selected device and analyze the results. If a collection on a device takes more than five minutes to run (which is typical of many missioncritical Remote Support Advanced collections), the utility will indicate that the collection took too long and move on to the next device. The collection will continue to run in the background. After the collection eventually completes, clicking Refresh will display the results and the time at which the collection eventually completed. Any collection that came back empty, was timed out, or was not able to be run will be highlighted in red. The specific problem will be listed in the collection_error column. See the section on Data Collection Failures in this document for more information. When exiting the Interface, you will be prompted to optionally send data to HP to improve the product. If you select yes, the troubleshooting kit will attempt to send an xml representation of the table to HP via an RS Client submit data call. This will only succeed if the RS Client is installed and operational.

Data Collection Failures

Known failure modes include: Return Code of ucadmin.exe = 1, and no collection is generated: The socket used by SOAP is corrupted. Rebooting the host device typically fixes the problem. Collection_Error= ERROR: SNMP agents are not installed or set up properly - SnmpMgrRequest returned error (40) Check the setup of SNMP agents on the monitored devices. ERROR: Namespace specified cannot be found - 0x8004100E The Providers are probably not installed. ERROR: WMI providers are not installed properly or the user credentials are wrong 0x80070005 The hostname of the monitored device may not be correct check that the name is correct in the user interface. Also check the setup of the WMI agents on the monitored devices and that they are using valid credentials.

ConnectServer() failed (HRESULT=0x800706BA). Collection halted Verify connectivity between the host device and monitored server.

1-3-1-4 Verifying connectivity to HP data center

Insight Remote Support Advanced:
It is possible to check connectivity to the HP datacenter by generating an incident on the monitored device and checking that its status is changed to indicate that it has been received and closed in HP SIM. Please see the Remote Support usage guide for more information. Connectivity status is also available in the Service Health tab in the Insight Remote Support interface. The Service Health tab is described in detail in the Insight Remote Support Advanced CMS Configuration and Usage Guide available from http://www.hp.com/go/insightremoteadvanced-docs

Insight Remote Support Standard:

Connectivity status is also available in the Service Health tab in the Insight Remote Support interface. The Service Health tab is described in detail in the Insight Remote Support Standard Hosting Device Configuration available from http://www.hp.com/go/insightremotestandard-docs

1-3-1-5 Collecting Logs to Attach to a Support Case

HP Insight Remote Support software comprises of many different software components, each with many different log files. This can make it challenging to get all the relevant log files to HP Support. To gather all appropriate log files, execute: collectRsLogs.bat This will create a zip file in the C:\temp\Tools_Check folder. This folder will be created if it does not exist. Ignore any output about services not runningthis is not relevant to the log file collection. This zip file can be attached to a support case and should provide HP Support with all the supporting data they need to troubleshoot your case.

1-3-2 HP-UX Endpoint Configuration Assistants

The Installation Advisor includes two utilities to assist in the setup of monitored HP-UX devices: InsightRsHpuxSetup.sh and InsightRsPrereqCheckv24.sh To use these utilities, simply copy them to a monitored HPUX device and execute them.

1-3-2-1 InsightRsPrereqCheckv24.sh
InsightRsPrereqCheckv24.sh is typically run on an HP-UX device prior to configuring it to be monitored by Remote Support. This script verifies that all remote support prerequisites are met. Execute this script on the HP-UX device, follow any recommendations it suggests, and then re-run the script to verify that the system is ready to be monitored. InsightRsPrereqCheck was previously known as TestRSPv24.sh Sample output is in the appendix below. Once InsightRsPrereqCheckv24.sh reports success, execute InsightRsHpuxSetup.sh.

1-3-2-2 InsightRsHpuxSetup.sh
InsightRsHpuxSetup.sh is a set of scripted configuration steps that help you configure necessary software on HP-UX systems for remote support. Execute this script on the HP-UX device and follow the steps it suggests. At the end of a successful execution of this script, the system should be ready to be discovered by Insight Remote Support. Go back to the Central Management Server/Hosting Device and configure Insight Remote Support to monitor the HP-UX device. InsightRsHpuxSetup.sh was previously known as rspCheck08.sh. Sample output of InsightRsHpuxSetup.sh is in the appendix below.
