You are asked to carefully study the information and to note the information that it contains. This not only contains information regarding the importance of your financial commitment to the parish, it also contains financial giving recommendations categorized by personal income so that they are fair to all. Next weekend during Mass you will receive a commitment card and will be asked to indicate your weekly or monthly commitment. Regardless of whether you give monthly, quarterly, etc., please indicate the amount that your gifts represent on a weekly or monthly basis. If you have not used envelopes, checks or ParishPay (automatic debit) in the past, please consider doing so. St. Edward The Confessor Catholic Church

Faith Formation
Dear Parishioners, As many of you know, the St. Edward community has been my home for three decades. I first arrived in Dana Point in 1979, having just accepted an instructors position at Saddleback College. Although I loved teaching college students, my heart longed for something more and I began to pray for direction. One summer day, I found my way up the hill to a little church (St. Edward) perched on the bluff where mass was being celebrated outside. As the sun poured down on me that day, I had a sense that I had finally arrived at my destination. Little did I know then that God would call me into service in the Catholic Church in a big way. After volunteering for several years, I was offered a staff position and the rest, as they say, is history. I have given my life to the call of the gospel and to serving this community and have been blessed beyond all telling in return. Throughout the years, it has been the commitment and privilege of the Faith Formation staff to walk the sacred journey with adults, teens and children as we have grown together as a community of faith. We are dedicated to serving your needs and to offering new ways to experience Gods presence in our midst. We are constantly praying together and listening to the whispers of the Holy Spirit as the future unfolds. Recently, the parish embarked on a new adventure with the implementation of a strategic planning tool called Faith Formation 2020. A group of parishioners have joined with Fr. Steve and me to vision and plan for what the church might be like eight years from now. With the rapid growth in technology and other driving forces, the population of Catholic communities are dramatically changing. We want to be ready for the changes and to help young people feel excited, connected, educated and spiritually grounded in the Catholic tradition. To that end, the Faith Formation 2020 team has prayed, discussed, analyzed and discerned what we could do now to prepare for the future. Our goal is to create an online resource center for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of God and the Church. We are currently working diligently to make our website even more interactive and accessible. This past year, a sophisticated computer, projectors, screens and other equipment were installed in the church to enhance liturgical experiences both at the parish and at home. We still have lots more to do and need your help as we strive to make Faith Formation a life-long priority. Based on the gifts you have given in the past, we know we can count on you. One of the most important things that I have learned from my spiritual walk is the equal exchange nature of the Christian path namely, that giving is the same as receiving. I have experienced firsthand that no matter how much time, talent and treasures I contribute, Gods generosity is always more over-the-top, abundantly bestowed, and tangibly imminent. Those of you who have come forward every year to volunteer know, beyond words, what this means. Following this model of Christian generosity, we trust in your support and celebrate your presence, service, and love as we go forward together. With deep gratitude and hope, Donna Erickson Couch Director of Faith Formation

Parish Council
PASTORAL COUNCIL REPORT: OCT 2011 PURPOSE OF THE PASTORAL COUNCIL: To assist the Pastor as an advisory body, acting in a collaborative manner, to provide advice on the faith life of the parish. The Councils role is to seek out, investigate, discern, and recommend to the Pastor suggestions involving pastoral matters. (A full description of the advisory purpose and role of the Council is included in the Pastoral Council Foundation Document, located on the St Edward website.) INITIAL SELECTION PROCESS: Beginning in February 2009, three Pastoral Council Information Sessions were held, attended by 66 parishioners. From these initial 66, after a number of discernment meetings, 12 Council members were chosen in summer 2009. Members began meeting with Fr Steve and facilitator Sr. Regina Fox in fall 2009 to begin to organize the Council. MISSION STATEMENT/GOALS/FOUNDATION DOCUMENT: A Mission Statement was developed and affirmed in May 2010. Loved by the Father, saved by the Son, empowered by the Holy Spirit, we, the faithful of St Edward the Confessor and San Felipe de Jesus, joyfully embrace our community and the world. Nourished by the sacraments and inspired by the example of Christ, we strive to be His voice, hands and heart. In order to garner direction for what issues/goals the Council should address, a Parish Assembly was held in February 2010. Approximately 125 persons attended. From that assembly and considerable conversation among the Council and with Parish staff, four goal areas were identified as the highest priorities for the Pastoral Council to address from 2010 to 2013 as affirmed in September 2010. They are: -Create opportunities to blend and engage the gifts and talents within the communities of St. Edward the Confessor/San Felipe de Jesus and St. Edward the Confessor School. -Present opportunities for parishioners to enrich their personal relationship with God. -Invite all parishioners into a deeper faith journey by encouraging them to participate in parish ministries. -Enhance and expand programs for youth and young adults to explore and strengthen their understanding and living their Catholic faith. The Council spent most of 2010 -11, discussing with parish staff the ways in which the goals could be realized and developing a Foundation Document that would provide organizational guidance to the Council as it proceeded from a developing organization into a functioning Council. CURRENT EFFORTS: The Council, beginning in fall 2011, has its own chair and vice chair, and has organized itself into small groups to work with parish staff in focusing on making progress on the four goal areas. Those, along with planning for 4 new members as of September 2012 and a Parish Assembly in fall 2012, as well as providing ongoing advice to the Pastor as requested, are the primary current activities of the Council.

Traces of Grace in 2011

Dear Fellow Parishioners: As I begin this letter, the third one reflecting on the future of our parish, I want to state that I am most thankful and appreciative of your ownership of and commitment to this parish. This is a community of hospitality, deep faith, sincere commitment to worship and faith formation and seemingly constant activity. You are the energizers of the Spirit. While we share two sites in Dana Point and Capistrano Beach, we are one community of faith and commitment to the Lord and his Church. On the weekend of November 5/6, we will be speaking with you about our Annual Offertory Program. For many of us, this commitment of regular, consistent stewardship financial giving is not new. This has been our parish practice for a number of years now. I know we have many collections during the year, some mandatory and others we choose in supporting a particular mission or need. This particular annual offertory commitment is for the needs of our parish community. Through your commitment to regular giving, we are able to not only meet the parishs current fiscal needs, but also able to better budget and plan for the future of our community. Because of your commitment, we are able to support vibrant worship, strong sacramental ministries and faith formation, as well as outreach into our local communities and beyond. As our facilities weather and age (like we all do!), we work hard to keep our facilities clean and well maintained. As pastor, I am constantly amazed at your willingness to serve and be a regular part of our community, even in these continuing difficult economic times. I encourage you to take a serious look at a great way to give regularly to your parish. This is through Parish Pay, a debit service that allows you to give even if you are away from the parish for some reason. Currently, we have 700 families using this means of giving. I strongly encourage you to take a look at Parish Pay if you are not currently using this means to contribute. It is easy to sign up and you dont have to worry about forgetting your wallet, purse or checkbook while running out the door to get to church on time! Our goal this year is to have 800 families commit to the parish through Parish Pay. If we reach that number, then we will have a drawing for those signed up with Parish Pay. The person with the winning ticket will receive a new iPad. With that incentive, I think even Fr. Mario will sign up with Parish Pay this year!! What is the future of our parish? While our world around us swirls with changes and uncertainty, I am certain that we are moving forward as a parish community with the resonance of the Spirit and the hope of a future for us and our children. Thank you again for being part of our present and our future. Together in Christ; November 11th Veterans Day Fr. Steve Pastor Please Remember our Veterans In your Prayers on Their special day.

Rasgos de gracia a 2011

Queridos feligreses: Al comenzar esta carta, la tercera reflexin sobre el futuro de nuestra parroquia, quiero afirmar que me siento muy agradecido y correspondido por su sentido de pertenencia y su compromiso hacia esta parroquia. sta, es una comunidad de hospitalidad, de fe profunda, de compromiso sincero para la adoracin y la formacin en la fe y aparentemente de actividad constante. Ustedes son los energizados del Espritu. Aun cuando compartimos dos sitios, Dana Point y Capistrano Beach, somos una comunidad, de fe, de compromiso con el Seor y su Iglesia. El fin de semana de 05/06 de noviembre, vamos a estar hablando con ustedes acerca de nuestro Programa de Ofrenda Anual. Para muchos de nosotros, este compromiso de contribuir con la ofrenda anual no es algo nuevo. sta ha sido la prctica de la parroquia desde hace muchos aos. S que tenemos varias colectas durante el ao, algunas son obligatorias, otras son escogidas para apoyar a una misin o una necesidad en particular. Este compromiso habitual, de la ofrenda anual, es para las necesidades de nuestra comunidad parroquial. A travs de su compromiso con la ofrenda habitual, no slo somos capaces de satisfacer las necesidades de la parroquia en curso, sino que tambin somos capaces de presupuestar y planear mejor el futuro de nuestra comunidad parroquial. Debido a su compromiso, estamos en condiciones de apoyar la adoracin vibrante, ministerios sacramentales fortalecidos y formacin en la fe, as como la divulgacin en nuestras comunidades locales y ms all. A medida que nuestras instalaciones se envejecen con el tiempo (como no sucede a todos!), Nosotros trabajamos duro para mantener las instalaciones limpias y en buenas condiciones. Como prroco, estoy sorprendido por su voluntad de servir y ser parte constante de nuestra comunidad, incluso en estos tiempos de dificultades econmicas. Los animo para que consideren seriamente un gran modo de dar habitualmente a su parroquia. Esto es a travs de Parish Pay o Pago Parroquial, un servicio de dbito que le permitir dar incluso si usted est lejos de la parroquia, por alguna razn. En la actualidad, tenemos 700 familias que utilizan dicho medio de dar. Les recomiendo que echen un vistazo al Pago Parroquial si ustedes no estn usando este medio para contribuir. Es fcil registrarse y ustedes no tendrn que preocuparse por haber olvidado su billetera, cartera o chequera, cuando salen corriendo de sus casas para llegar a la iglesia a tiempo! Nuestra meta para este ao es tener 800 familias comprometidas con la parroquia a travs del Pago Parroquial. Si llegamos a ese nmero, entonces tendremos un sorteo para aquellos que se han inscrito en el Pago Parroquial. La persona con el boleto ganador recibir un iPad nuevo. Con este incentivo, creo que incluso el Padre Mario se inscribir en el Pago Parroquial este ao! Cul es el futuro de nuestra parroquia? Mientras que el mundo que nos rodea se arremolina con cambios e incertidumbres, estoy seguro de que estamos avanzando como una comunidad parroquial, con la resonancia del Espritu Santo y la esperanza de un buen futuro para nosotros y para nuestros hijos. Gracias de nuevo por ser parte de nuestro presente y nuestro futuro. Juntos en Cristo;

Padre Steve Sallot Prroco
