It is governed by five elected residents of Champaign who give their services to the community. The Park Board holds its regular meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at 7pm at the Bresnan Meeting Center, 706 Kenwood Road. Residents are invited to attend and are welcome to make suggestions or comments to improve the programs or facilities offered. The Champaign Park Districts 63 parks total over 670 acres. Fifteen facilities are available for a wide variety of recreational opportunities.
Our Mission
The mission of the Champaign Park District is to provide quality parks and recreation for all ages in our community.
The Champaign Park District is proud to bring you another fun-filled season of programs for all ages and abilities as we look forward to the slower pace of winter. We can keep you busy by engaging you in sports, fitness, fun and culture while anticipating springs arrival. You will find the newly renovated Virginia Theatre lobby with its new marquee and exciting lineup of movies and events to be one of the best deals in town. The Tennis Center and Springer Cultural Center offer many new programs this season guaranteed to make you fit and happy. Learn a new hobby, skill or simply apply the healthier lifestyle we are all being encouraged to adopt. We can even help train you for the next 5K race. Many of you may be contacted by mail as LeisureVision, Inc. conducts a new needs assessment of our community on behalf of the Park District. You will be asked for your opinion in a variety of areas which will help the District meet your future needs and serve you better. This process was last done 8 years ago and the Park Board and staff heard your priorities and acted upon them completely changing the makeup of our parks (with paths, Sholem Aquatic Center, Porter Park (nature), Sunset Ridge Park and the dog park) and offering a higher level of service throughout our 670 acres of parks. At all times, we welcome your input and invite you to join us as a volunteer, participant, adopt a park group or simply providing your insight on your families park and recreational needs and interests. And as always we encourage you to enjoy all the Champaign Park District has to offer. Champaign Park District, Your Place to Play! Bobbie H. Herakovich Executive Director Newton H. Race the Greenspace (RTG) is an urban adventure style race that will lead teams on an 8-10 mile course highlighting a top secret list of Champaign Park District parks and facilities. Think of it as the Park Districts version of the Amazing Race! In RTG, teams of 2-4 people solve photo and trivia clues which then lead them to checkpoints where theyll face mental and/or physical challenges. As you work to solve these clues, you may use smartphones or call smart friends, but its up to you to figure out the best order to complete your checkpoints. All members of your team must be assembled before you begin any physical or mental challenge. To navigate between the checkpoints, you may walk, run, bicycle*, skateboard*, roller-blade*, (*helmets required) or use public transportation. Sometimes the fastest way between two checkpoints will be to run or bike, and other times a bus may be the way to go. However, no forms of transportation other than those listed will be allowed this includes automobiles, taxis, motorcycles, scooters, flying carpets, or private jets. Bike racks are not guaranteed at any of the stops, so be sure you bring your own bike lock and think ahead about bike parking. You choose your own adventure in this race, but expect to cover a total of 8-10 miles during the course of RTG. Date 4/14 Day Sa Start Time 8am Class ID 471706-A1

Decreasing assessed values, rising utility costs, and tax caps have made the Park District rely more on tax revenue. It is becoming increasingly difficult to offer the quality of parks and recreation programs which our residents have come to know and expect. If you believe in quality parks for the future, recreational programs for people off all ages, diverse facilities for all to enjoy, and you would like to ensure all of these are available for generations to come, then show your support by making a donation today! Growing Together
Free!
The Growing Together Tree is a program for parents or soon-to-be parents to adopt a tree that has been planted in a park during the year of your new childs birth. Together they grow: child and tree. You will receive an infant t-shirt and a map with your trees location.
memorial Trees
A living memorial is planted in honor of a loved one. Call for current fee.
Flower Islands
Retirement Tree
The Flower Island program is a cooperative beautification effort between local businesses and the Park District. This unique program allows businesses to have a personal flower bed near their site and to assist with the sponsorship of beds on public property (e.g. parks, schools, library, right-of-ways, etc.) Each year the local business pays a fee to the Park District. Half this amount contributes to the cost of their bed(s) and the remainder is used for the Flower Islands on public property. Hence, they enhance the beauty of the community twice. Services included for the annual fee are design, bed preparation, planting, maintenance, and fall removal. Enrollment: September November questions: Greg Sancken, 398-2591
Plant a living, growing retirement gift for the newly retired friend, relative, or co-worker to celebrate a successful career and a new phase of life. The retiree will receive a map with the trees location and a certificate. Call for current fee.
Adopt-A-Tree
We invite tree lovers to Adopt-A-Tree in their neighborhood park. A tree can be adopted by individuals, families, scout troops, church groups, or service organizations. Adoption can involve watering the tree, spreading mulch, or keeping an eye open for vandalism or disease. You will receive a map with your trees location.

The Adopt-A-Park program was developed by the Champaign Park District in 1982 after a class at Robeson Elementary School inquired about adopting the park near their school. The purpose of the program is to encourage people in a park neighborhood to assume some responsibilities for their adopted park. This helps maintain and program the park above the level that the Champaign Park District is able to achieve on its own. Adopted parks build community support and often become the focal point of neighborhood activities. The park programs benefit both the Park District and the adopting group. If you are interested in adopting a park or would like more information, please call 398-2550 or visit us at www.champaignparkdistrict.com.

Day Camps: A chance to cancel from an all-day camp without paying more than the required deposit will only be given through five (5) business days before the start of the session. After that, the full fee will be charged to the participant and the spot in the class will be opened to those on the waiting list. More information is given in the Preschool Handbook. All Other Programs: Refunds will be given only through the second meeting of any program, unless otherwise noted above. Residents living within the boundaries of the park district regularly support park facilities and programs through property taxes. People living within the Champaign and Urbana Park District boundaries pay the resident (R) fee. Persons residing outside these districts will pay 50% more than the resident rates non-resident (NR). Fees charged for programs are used to offset part of the costs for special instructors, facility costs, and program supplies.
Program Scholarships
Program participants living outside the boundaries of the Champaign and Urbana Park Districts have an option of paying 50% more than the resident rates for each program registration or paying a yearly fee and the resident fee for each program. The yearly fee is computed on the assessed valuation of the nonresidents home. The yearly fee is this valuation multiplied by the current tax rate of the Champaign Park District. The term of the payment coverage is from May 1 to April 30 of the following year. A person wishing to pay the yearly fee should bring a copy of the most recent tax bill to the Bresnan Meeting Center for computation of the fee. To receive the same privilege, non-resident renters may pay a flat fee of $50. The non-resident annual fee option is not available to persons residing adjacent to the Park District boundaries. They, however, have the option of annexing their property into the Champaign Park District.
Because some residents are unable to participate in recreation programs due to economic hardship, the Champaign Park District offers scholarships to reduce certain fees and charges. Scholarship applicants are not guaranteed fund availability, program registration, or choice of program location. Early applications are given priority. Applications are available at the Bresnan Meeting Center and can be mailed upon request. Need is the primary criterion upon which scholarship applicants are considered.
CCRS helps income-eligible parents who are working and/or going to school to pay for their child care. Based on parents family size and income, working families whose incomes are at or below 50% of the state median income level may be eligible to apply. Processing can take up to 10 business days. Please pick up an application from CCRS. questions: Child Care Resource Service, 333-3252 or 1-800-325-5516
A $25 service charge will be assessed on all checks returned by the bank for any reason.
