Parental Information

Pollywiggle Day Nursery is a safe haven a place where children feel safe, secure and happy at all times. Thats why we aim to create an environment which feels like a home from home; a warm and welcoming world a wonderful, safe place in which to both learn and to grow.

Our team We know that our children develop best when placed in a nurturing environment so we ensure our team is enthusiastic and highly motivated, working individually with each child to provide the highest level of quality child care. We have a high level of qualified staff (NVQ Level 3 & 4 in Child Care) with a range of experience and expertise. All staff complete rigorous personal checks during our selection process and work hard to increase their training and qualifications on an ongoing basis.

Total Care At Pollywiggle Day Nursery we provide a high quality of care for your child; you can rest assured that wherever you are or whatever you are doing that your little one is in our safe hands. Our staff are all highly qualified and our recruitment policy means we only recruit staff with a minimum of 2 years child care experience. We work hard as a staff team to ensure healthy and positive attitudes are promoted throughout each room within the nursery. From your first visit to Pollywiggle Day Nursery, you will be able to see that we go the extra mile to build partnership with our parents. Well work with you, ensuring that your child eases comfortably into nursery life and most important they have fun. In your settling period you are able to stay with your child during early visits, fazing nursery care in gently. We find this provides an important confidence boost for both children and parents and we see our children growing, learning and becoming more independent. On acceptance of a place, a key person will be assigned to your child. They will gently introduce your child into starting nursery life and co-ordinate a plan that meets their own individual needs. Your childs key person also provides a friendly face and a valuable first contact when you need information or want to talk through a problem or query.

Early Years Learning Throughout the nursery we plan using six key areas of learning. These are: Personal, social emotional development Communication language and literacy Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy Knowledge and understanding of the world Creative development Physical development All staff at the nursery are fully trained in the Early Years Foundation Stage and are skilled in using aspects of this whilst maintaining our creative approach to learning.

Our Rooms Our philosophy throughout the nursery is that all children develop at the own pace and as such, babies and children progress through our rooms when our staff and parents together feel they are ready to do so. We do have an age range attached to each of our rooms, however this is only used as a guideline and can be completely flexible to suit your childs own individual needs.

Wrigglers Babies to 1 year old and Jigglers Toddlers to 2 year old In Wrigglers baby room, your key-worker will ensure your babies needs are met in a quiet yet stimulating environment. Following the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, we include lots of messy play activities and age appropriate toys to feed your babies young imagination. To help your baby settle into nursery there is always plenty of time for lots of comforting cuddles. As your baby becomes more mobile and independent, they will flow naturally into Jigglers room where play is stimulating, aiming to work with your childs natural curiosity to discover new sounds, sights and experiences. We have a separate sleep room to ensure your little one has all the rest they need throughout the day. Our staff will work with you to ensure your childs sleep patterns at home are replicated as much as possible.

Wigglers 2 to 3 year old In Wigglers, your little one will be encouraged to take part in creative and imaginative play. All the children eat together to promote social mealtimes and here little conversations begin. Every day is a new experience with singing sessions, sand, water, collages, building and messy play just for starters! We continue to build upon your childs social skills and encourage independence in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Your child will start to become aware of his/her peers and make new friends whilst developing skills such as counting, shapes and colours. Gigglers 3 to 5 year old Our Gigglers pre-school room promotes self choice and initiative as the equipment is easily identifiable and at child level. Activities take place each day which work towards the Early Years Learning Goals. Each child has a portfolio which keeps you informed of your little ones progress at nursery. Complimentary additional lessons are included such as French and Music, with all learning achieved through play. Our children learn and still have fun!

Outside Play Area Our nursery has its own secure outdoor play area full of activities. Our equipment has been specifically selected to offer children challenges, whilst being fun and entertaining. We make sure our outdoor space appeal to all the age ranges throughout the nursery. We have a large, sand area, wooden play equipment, and areas to insight their imagination such as our home corner. We also have a planting area for children to grow their own fruit, plants, herbs and vegetables.

Parental Involvement Pollywiggle Day Nursery works with parents to provide an open communication channel where staff and parents can work together for the good of each child. We recognise that by working together on developmental goals we can offer a cohesive approach to each childs experience. Parents are welcome to visit the nursery at any time, and your comments or highlighted areas for improvement are always appreciated. Each child will have their own personal file which will be continually updated with their progress. You will be free to look at this whenever you wish and discuss any elements with your childs key worker. Staff will provide full feedback to you after each session, where you will be able to ask any questions regarding the day to day care of your child. You will be able to see examples of arts and craft activities your child may have been involved in, see photos of them enjoying indoor and outdoor play or even get to eat some of the cooking or baking they produce!

Safety and Security At Pollywiggle Day Nursery the security and safety of our children is paramount. As such, we have implemented a number of policies, procedures and equipment to ensure the highest levels of safety and security are maintained at all times: Access into the nursery is on a staff admittance basis only. We have a gated complex with both an intercom system and security cameras. Staff will escort any visitors from the gate into the building and stay with them at all times. The nursery is fully equipped with CCTV cameras throughout which are monitored by staff at all times. A full fire alarm system is fitted throughout the building, with smoke detectors, fire doors, emergency lighting and escape routes highlighted. All radiators throughout the building, in areas where children will be present, are low heat radiators preventing any risk of burns. All childrens sinks are regulated to ensure the water is kept at an optimum temperature for them to wash their hands in. All staff members have undergone an enhanced police disclosure process and a rigorous selection process. Qualified first aiders will always be on duty. Any allergies or medical conditions are detailed on each childs file and fully communicated to the relevant staff members. Any medicine which needs to be administered will only be done so under the direction of the parent following professional medical advice. Child protection officers will ensure that our safeguarding policy is always adhered to. If children are to be collected by anyone other than the main parent/carer, a password system will be operated.

Meals and snacks Meal time is an important and enjoyable learning experience. For our babies it is a time for closeness and one-on-one attention, when eating becomes fun through exploring new flavours and textures. For older children, its a great time to learn about making healthy choices, taking turns and finding out how to be independent though always with the encouragement and support to match every childs own needs and requirements.

Throughout Pollywiggle Day Nursery we offer a range of snacks and meals which are based on a nutritious and balanced menu plan. All meals are prepared on site by our highly qualified nursery cook and uses organic and locally sourced ingredients where possible. We have healthy menus which rotate on a monthly basis with full recipes available for parents so that you can see exactly what your child will be eating. Any dietary requirements can be catered for and if your child does not like what is on the menu for a particular day, an alternative menu will be offered. Fruit and water will be accessible to our children at all times during their care on a free serve basis. Children will be also be given the opportunity to grow their own fruit, herbs and vegetables in the nursery garden, which will also be used in some of the meals and snacks they eat and help children to understand where their food comes from and how to make healthy choices.

Natural world At Pollywiggle Day Nursery we believe in helping children to understand the world around them and the impact we have on the environment. In our every day activities we aim to set a good example by following the principles of re-use, reduce and re-cycle where possible. We also have solar panels fitted which allow us to use natural resources to supply the majority of the energy we need to provide our childcare. We also actively encourage a range of animals, birds and mini-beasts into our nursery garden for children to explore and learn more about.
