PHYSICAL THERAPY PLAN RECOMMENDED COURSE LIST

This Physical Therapy Plan offers Human Development majors preparation for graduate school studies as well as for a career after graduation. It is recommended that students interested in pursuing a master's or doctorate degree in physical therapy prepare for admission by contacting specific graduate programs due to the large variance in prerequisites. For students interested in pursuing a career in physical therapy after graduation, it is imperative they gain practical knowledge in the field through part-time employment or volunteer experiences while in school. Students should contact the Career Services Center for part-time employment opportunities. Courses should be taken either through general education requirements, major course work, or through electives. See also the Web resource links for the Physical Therapy Plan.

Are you competitive?

Admissions committees look for specific prerequisite courses, some of which are listed below; a competitive GPA (the typical mean GPA for CA masters programs is 3.4); competitive GRE scores; letters of reference (often two academic and one from a physical therapist); appropriate personal qualities and character traits; the personal statement; and knowledge of the field derived through experience (volunteer or paid). Many schools stress the importance of a variety of clinical experiences, including large hospitals, clinics, group practices and rehabilitation centers, and may expect a minimum of 100 hours in physical therapy and/or acute care settings.
The courses listed below are only possible requirements for various physical therapy graduate programs. All programs should be contacted directly for more specific details.
