The reason to rejoice

Luke 10:20 Introduction The Lord Jesus Christ had sent 72 disciples to go and preach the Good News to the people of Israel. When they return they gave a good report that they were able to heal the people and cast out demons. The disciples were so excited that even demons obeyed them when they were using the name of Jesus. The disciples were expecting the Lord Jesus Christ to rejoice with them, but the Lord told that there is a real reason for them and for everyone to rejoice. Luke 10:19-21: And he said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from
heaven. Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.

It is a human nature to boast and rejoice about achievements. 1. Rejoicing over wrong reasons In these modern days, people rejoice over wrong reasons. People boast and rejoice because they have messed up and felt no remorse. Young boys and young girls rejoice because they are into drugs. Parents rejoice when their children bear children out of wed log. People rejoice over things that they aught to be ashamed of. The apostle Paul says I am not ashamed of the Gospel because it is the power of God to save. We are living in the days of a confused generation. Isaiah prophesied about them in chapter 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put
darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight. They rejoice over their own death and the death of others.

God help because are even incited by those regards as leaders and role models. We need to preach the Gospel because it is the power of God to change lives. This is the only way we are going to save this world.
2. Rejoicing over worthy course

Some rejoice because of what they have acquired in life, be it material, educational, professional and otherwise. Some rejoice because the have a husband or a wife with children. It is in our nature to rejoice and feel happy. In other words they rejoice over a worthy course. Their reason is valid and sensible. They have worked hard to acquire what the have achieved. Some have spent sleepless nights burn the light to get a good qualification. Some have worked hard to climb the ladder in their political structures and profession. They now earn a good salary and live a quality

life by the standard of this earth. There is nothing wrong about that. If we listen to the words of the text carefully we will come to a realization what the Lord was saying to the disciples. The Lord was saying to the disciples well done but this is not the ultimate goal. This is like in a soccer game. Some supporters and players rejoice so much when they dribble the ball and make their opponents look foolish. But that is not the ultimate goal of the game. The ultimate goal is to score goals and win the match. In other words the Lord Jesus was saying to the disciples when the sick are healed and the demons obeying is not the end of the game nor is it an ultimate goal of the game. The Lord Jesus Christ says there a much deep reason to rejoice. He says there is a reason that is above all the others. He says to the disciples demons must obey you when you use my name. In other words you are playing the game very well but you have scored the goal. The Lord is not against our achievements. Actually the Lord says go and drive demons out in my name. Go and heal people in my name. Go and acquire good education, go and work hard and save money and build an inheritance for yourself and your offspring. Go and work hard and live a good life. When God created the world God gave a command to people. God say rule the world and replenish it. God was saying I have created you in my image. You must use it and subdue the world and develop it. Enjoy life, but remember that that is not the ultimate goal. That is not the ultimate reason to rejoice. The reason to rejoice The Lord Jesus said in Luke 12:15: And he said to them, "Take care, and be on
your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." Our lives are more important and worthier

than the material things of this world. As we acquire them let us know for sure that they do not define who we are before God. Jesus say rejoice because your names are written in heaven. Rejoice because you have not just earthly inheritance but your heavenly security. Today you can have a reason to rejoice. Your name can be written in heaven. You can raise you voice and say to God please count me in. We will celebrate and rejoice even in tears because there is now no more condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus. When we are in Christ we win all the time because our names are written in the heaven. All forms of condemnations are gone. Our is the eternal celebration.
