General Information
The automotive industry uses Handling Unit Management to simplify material flow. A handling unit (HU) consists of a load carrier, packed goods, and information on the packaging material and the materials. Using handling units makes it easier to map the movement of materials and packaging materials. Release mySAP Automotive 3.0 provides new functions that allow more flexibility when using Handling Unit Management, and reduce the amount of data entered.

In many cases, Handling Unit Management is not used for the production and inventory posting of material stocks. With Release mySAP Automotive 3.0, you will be able to map subsequent packing of material stocks into HUs. To do this, Handling Unit Management will be separated from stock build-up, that is, goods receipts and confirmations are posted to a storage location that is not HU-managed, without reference to an HU. To pack the stock built up in this way, you can use the packaging functions that are available in mySAP Automotive 2.0. This process rounds off the functions of packaging in production.

Due to the production of scrap, or poor material availability, quantities that are produced can differ from planned quantities. Until now it was not possible to adjust planned HUs to the result of production. With Release mySAP Automotive 3.0, you will be able to overwrite the planned quantity in a package item with the produced quantity. The system deletes all HUs that are empty after you change the quantity. The system then performs inventory postings with the new quantity.

Until now you could only use packing instructions that use a unique material number to refer to items to pack. However, similar materials, such as oil filters of the same size, are packed in the same way. With Release mySAP Automotive 3.0, you do not need to enter several packing instructions and packing instruction determination records with identical structures for such materials. You can use one packing instruction for all items packed in the same way.

The automotive industry uses material tags to identify packaging items. The material tags have barcodes that contain information that OEMs and suppliers need to exchange goods. With Release mySAP Automotive 3.0, you can assign HUs to a delivery as early as the time of production, that is, the material tags for these HUs receive a delivery note number before the production of the materials to pack has finished. This means that you can use the tags for shipping. This saves making labels twice. Apart from reducing your workload, this enhances the material flow between production and shipping.

If you want to pack finished products for specific customers using Handling Unit Management, you need to select specific HUs when putting together deliveries for the corresponding sales orders. Until now you could only choose specific HUs for a delivery when Warehouse Management (WM) was not used at their storage location. With Release mySAP Automotive 3.0, you will be able to select HUs in storage locations for which Warehouse Management is used. This manual selection will override the picking strategy set in Warehouse Management.

Placing HUs in storage creates storage units with the same description. Warehouse Management (WM) uses material and quantity entries to determine available stock (storage units) that is then picked according to the strategy you defined. Until now the system could not take into account the packing instructions on which the HUs were based. However, you need to pick HUs that were put together according to a specific packing instruction. With Release mySAP Automotive 3.0, you will be able to select HUs from Warehouse Management that correspond to the packing instruction you require. This selection overrides the picking strategy set in Warehouse Management.
