IP Radio Talk at a Glance

Tune into IP Talk Radio, a monthly podcast series coming to you from the Ericsson campus in the heart of Silicon Valley. Listen to industry leaders and personalities as they discuss IP networking-related issues. Subscribe to IP Talk Radio to hear expert commentary and gain valuable insights into todays market and Ericssons strategy.

Overview Over RoIP :Radio over Internet Protocol, or RoIP, is similar to IP Radio Talk, but augments two-way radio communications rather than telephone calls it is essentially IP Radio Talk with PTT (Push To Talk). With RoIP, at least one node of a network is a radio (or a radio with an IP interface device) connected via Into other nodes in the radio network. The other nodes can be two-way radios, but could also be dispatch consoles either traditional (hardware) or modern (software on a PC), POTS telephones, soft phone applications running on a computer such as Skype phone, PDA, Smartphone, or some other communications device accessible over IP. RoIP can be deployed over private networks as well as the public Internet. It is useful in land mobile radio systems used by public safety departments and fleets of utilities spread over a broad geographic areaPrepare .

Advantages:IP Radio Talk can be a benefit for reducing communication and infrastructure costs. Examples include:

Routing phone calls over existing data networks to avoid the need for separate voice and data networks.

The ability to transmit more than one telephone call over a single broadband connection. Secure calls using standardized protocols (such as Secure Real-time Transport Protocol

2 Quality of Services:Communication on the IP network is inherently less reliable in contrast to the circuitswitched public telephone network, as it does not provide a network-based mechanism to ensure that data packets are not lost, and are delivered in sequential order. It is a besteffort network without fundamental Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees. Therefore, IP Radio Talk implementations may face problems mitigating latency and jitter.

Succeptibility of Power failure:

Telephones for traditional residential analog service are usually connected directly to telephone company phone lines which provide direct current to power most basic analog handsets independently of locally available power. IP Phones and IP Radio Talk telephone adapters connect to routers or cable modems which typically depend on the availability of mains electricity or locally generated power. Some IP Radio Talk service providers use customer premise equipment (e.g., cablemodems) with battery-backed power supplies to assure uninterrupted service for up to several hours in case of local power failures. Such battery-backed devices typically are designed for use with analog handsets

Security:IP Radio Talk telephone systems are susceptible to attacks as are any internet-connected devices. This means that hackers who know about these vulnerabilities (such as insecure passwords) can institute denial-of-service attacks, harvest customer data, record conversations and break into voice mailboxes. Another challenge is routing IP Radio Talk traffic through firewalls and network address translators. Private Session Border Controllers are used along with firewalls to enable IP Radio Talk calls to and from protected networks. For example, Skype uses a proprietary protocol to route calls through other Skype peers on the network, allowing it to traverse

symmetric NATs and firewalls. Other methods to traverse NATs involve using protocols such as STUN or Interactive Connectivity Establishment (ICE).

HD Voice:The ongoing data-traffic boom, driven by smartphones, tablets and next-generation fixed and mobile networks, can coexist with a revitalized voice market. Voice is valued as a personal way of communicating, and for operators, an attractive voice offering will continue to be an important source of revenue and an essential component of any successful business model. The arrival of OTT players offering free voice services while emphasizing quality has resulted in greater urgency to improve voice services. Despite this, advances in voice technology have been slow, making voice an exception in a telecom market that has otherwise evolved at a remarkable pace. The business case for HD voice centers on four key areas: users make more and longer calls when they have access to the technology; operator offerings can keep pace with OTT services; enterprises can benefit from better voice quality; and the technology supports mobility.

Conclusion: thus after a long revolution after the RoIP and IP Radio Talk ,now it is time for IP Radio Radio Talk which was developed in the Ericsson Lab ,as time passes new generation was brought infront after 1G,2G,3G,4G.the big acievements after one another it become possible for the Ericsson to develop such technology. The Project is undertaken by the Aplle Corp. for using in its podcasts ,this project is under developing condition Momentum is building as HD-voice-capable networks and devices roll out across the globe. However, delivering the best possible user experience and establishing HD voice on a mass-market scale will require interconnection. HD voice has the potential to be a valuable offering for all kinds of networks, and it will work best as an ecosystem in which users are free to make high-quality voice calls to and from anywhere in the world.
