Comprehensive Assessment of Reading Strategies (CARS Series) is a reading series that gives you practice with 12 reading strategies. In Comprehensive Assessment of Reading Strategies, Book D, you will complete ten reading lessons. Each lesson has a passage and questions about the passage. Each passage is a different writing form. Some of the writing forms are a folktale, an article, a poem, and a short story. After you read each passage, you will answer 12 questions. Each question helps you practice a particular reading strategy. After you have finished the first five lessons, you will complete a self-assessment. This self-assessment will help you determine how well you are doing and what goals you need to set to improve your reading skills. After you finish the last five lessons, you will complete another self-assessment. This self-assessment will help you determine how well you met your goals. Comprehensive Assessment of Reading Strategies, Book D will help you become a better reader. You will understand what important information to look for as you read. This will help you get the most from your reading. Kids Today magazine is having an essay contest! Winning essays to be published in the July issue!
RULES 1. Essays must be written about one of these topics: Building a Strong Community Kids Making a Difference Challenges of the Twenty-first Century 2. Essays must be written by students in grades 4 through 7. All work must be your own. 3. Each student may enter only one essay. 4. All essays must be mailed no later than January 31. 5. Essays must be at least 500 words, but no more than 750 words. All essays must be typed. 6. Essays will be judged on content, creative ideas, and writing ability. 7. Three winners from each grade will be chosen. Winning essays will be published in the July issue of Kids Today. Winners will also receive $50.00 and a Kids Today T-shirt. 8. Names of winners will be published in the March issue. Judges will also notify all winners by mail.

Finding Word Meaning in Context 7. The word notify means decide or agree on something. tell someone about something officially. reveal secret information. write to ask for something.

Drawing Conclusions and Making Inferences 8.
