If you want to bring your favorite dish to the Christmas Party, Please contact the FRO to coordinate that as well. It is not mandatory but if you can bake a great Ham, Turkey, side dish or even dessert just let me know. TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY MCX Miramar presents: Tree Lighting Ceremony, Saturday, November 19th from 5:30pm - 7pm at the MCX Main Store Promenade. Come and join for an evening of holiday cheer. SANTEE HOLIDAY LIGHTING CELEBRATION Friday, Nov 18, 5:30-8:30pm. Santas Holiday Lighting Celebration will feature the lighting of a 20-foot tall tree, Santas visit, ice skating on a 2,400square-foot ice rink, a live band, caroling, holiday-themed crafts, horse-drawn carriage rides, kids activities, and more. ANNUAL MOTHER GOOSE PARADE EL CAJON Sunday, Nov 20. The Mother Goose Parade is the largest parade in San Diego County and the largest of its type west of the Mississippi. Each year, the parade attracts thousands of spectators to the streets of El Cajon, California to view the parade for free on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Well over 100 colorful and exciting parade entries come from a variety of cities throughout the United States to share in the excitement that is part of the Mother Goose Parade. Each year, a line-up of spectacular motorized floats, glorious marching bands and drill units, eloquent equestrians, animated clowns, special characters, special guests, performing artists, celebrities, giant helium balloons, specialty vehicles, and of course, Santa Claus, roll through East County. The Encinitas Fall Festival, formerly Encinitas Poinsettia Festival, will feature a wide variety of arts, crafts, gifts and food from the 450 vendor booths lining the Coast Highway 101, from D to J Streets in addition to the 200 shops and 40 restaurants and eateries that will be open and ready for business. Live music will be playing at two venues; The Lumberyard Courtyard Stage, located at the Lumberyard Center, and Community Stage, close to F Street, will feature the best in local entertainment. L.I.N.K.S. offers an orientation to the Marine Corps lifestyle, helping Marines and their families understand and adapt to the unique challenges military life often presents. House, Bldg 2273 VOLUNTEER PILLOW SEWING EVENT (CAMPEN EVENT) Come one, Come all. The Volunteer Pillow Sewing Event details are as follows: Date: Wed, Nov 16th, Time: 6pm- 8pm (set up at 5:30pm). Location: Abby Reinke Community Center on base. The holiday season is not too far off and there has never been a better time to show our gratitude to our veterans than now. We are creating military pillows to give to our veterans in hospice centers around San Diego to thank them for their service. Please bring your Marine's old, worn and torn cammies to add to the fabric (don't' worry If you don't have any, we have some already). This location is child friendly. There will be basketball hoops for the older children, a television with DVD accessibility, and the play ground is in eye view right outside the door to our event. We would like to accommodate all volunteers, so for those of you not interested in sewing please feel free to join your fellow wives and help keep a watchful on our little ones. Please Bring: A dish to share, since the event is falling into our dinner time. Sewing Machines, Scissors, Military uniform colored threads, Fabric glue, YOURSELF and a FRIEND...And please let me remind you that there is no obligation to bring anything but a smile. WHITE HOUSE REQUEST - CHILDREN HOLIDAY CARDS The First Lady is inviting military children from around the world to help decorate the White House for the holidays. Children can submit 5x8" handmade holiday cards with words of appreciation to honor their parents. The First Lady encourages children to use their imagination by including words, pictures and drawings. The White House will display as many of the cards as possible. MIRAMAR YOUTH SPORTS Miramar Youth Sports is accepting Cheerleading registration. Participation Fee $70.00. The season begins Jan 28, 2011, ending Mar 10, 2012. They cheer on Saturdays and 2 day practice. Ages 57 yrs and 813 yrs old. Includes professional uniformsTops, Skirt , socks, briefs, pom-poms, hair ribbon, trophy and pictures. Registration ends Dec 13, 2011 "NO EXCEPTIONS". Miramar Youth Sports is accepting Basketball registration. Participation Fee $50.00. The season begins Jan 28, 2011, ending Mar 10, 2012. Games are played on Saturdays and 2 days a week practice. Co-Ed Ages 56, 7-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15-17 yrs old. Includes jerseys, shorts, trophy and pictures. Registration ends Jan 6, 2011. VFW/AMERICAN LEGION HOLIDAY PARTY (PLEASE SEE FLYER ON PG 7) Hello friends of the Pacific Beach American Legion Auxiliary, This is your official invitation to the second annual VFW/American Legion Family holiday party! CAMP PENDLETON OWC HOLIDAY BAZAAR (PLEASE SEE FLYER ON PG 8) The Camp Pendleton OWC is hosting their annual Holiday Bazaar on December 10, 2011 from 9:00 to 4:00 p.m. outside the MCX on Mainside. The attached flyer on pg XX is an invitation to businesses owners, independent consultants, crafters, etc. to reserve a booth at the Holiday Bazaar for $35.00. As stated on the flyer, all proceeds from booth reservation are directly deposited into our Scholarships and Community Enrichment fund. This event is open to ALL patrons. YOUTH & TEEN FALL CAMP The Youth & Teen Center is accepting Fall Camp enrollments for Active Duty living or stationed at MCAS Miramar (including DOD, GS, Active Reservists, and Federal Employees) Grades: Kindergarten through 6th Grade. Dates: Nov 21-Nov 25. Registration required. Packets can be picked up at the Youth & Teen Center. For people who are not currently enrolled at the Youth & Teen Center, they will need to complete the initial enrollment packet and pay the annual fees ($25 per child and $35 per 2 or more children). Please allow enough time to complete physicals and power of attorney as part of the registration process. Camp cost is based on income. Please make an appointment to return completed packets by calling the Resource and Referral Office at 858-577-6959. Scheduled orientations are required prior to the 1st day of camp. The facility is open to all active duty enlisted service members. What are the hours? The GE is open 365 days a year. We are open Sunday 0945 2300 (during football season), Monday 1100 2300, Tuesday Thursday 1100 2400 and Friday and Saturday 1100 0100, We are open all holidays. What is in The GE? The GE features a variety of activities including but not limited to: Gaming Rooms (X BOX 360, PS 3, Wii, Kinect, Nintendo 64 and a game cube and a lot of games), 6 tournament size pool tables, ping pong tables, foosball and air hockey, 2 lounge areas with 60 TVs, and a movie room with 132 screen, 18 leather recliners and bean bags. FOOTBALL Catch NCAA and NFL football action on the big screen all week in The Great Escape.
