The Movie Production BIBLE The Pre-production (Script Writing)

What is a Story? What is a good Script? Let us explain this through a famous dialogue. Aaj mere paas ghar hai, zameen hai, jaidad hai, kya hai tumhare paas? Mere paas..mere paas rajma hai. Rajma!!! Doesnt fits perfectly right? Well, this is why the first step is to find a good story and script. The script can be original or copied (read inspired) from a book, a play, a real story, another film etc. Hollywood films have always been a favourite hunting ground for the Bollywood script writers, sometimes our writers find the story so inspiring that they copy it scene by scene. A good writer has to be imaginative and creative thinker. His thoughts should fly like a bird. Generally a script writer is paid 2-10 lakhs depending upon the budget and the production

banner. However, big sets, bigger stars and larger than life performances can help a producer get away with weak storyline. As the next step, the story is then handed over to the screenwriter for writing the screenplay. To know more about screenplay writing, stay tuned. DDLJ A Must See!

An unusual but true and well deserving tag! Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge or DDLJ(1995) was one of the two Bollywood films included in the 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die list. A directorial debut of Aditya Chopra, DDLJ is an All Time Blockbuster made a gross earning of Rs. 106 Cr in India and Rs. 15 Cr overseas. In 2001, DDLJ surpassed Sholay to become the longest running film in Indian cinema and thanks to Maratha Mandir theatre in Mumbai, the film completed 800 weeks of nonstop running. The movie still runs packed houses in this theatre. Interestingly, Shahrukh Khan was not the first choice as Aditya Chopra wanted to cast Tom Cruise in the movie to project it as an American- Indian romance tale. However, Yash Chopra was not convinced and wanted to put NRI theme to attract the huge population of non resident Indians to theatres. Chopras then convinced Shahrukh to play the lead and the rest they say is history. To know more about your favourite movies, ask for ETC from your DTH cable operator!
