Lesson Presentation
Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set: The teacher will begin by accessing students prior knowledge of the four seasons (i.e. what they are, when they occur etc.) As a class they will discuss the four seasons and what they learned the day before. The teacher will then show students the photostory example she created. Once students have seen her photostory, she will explain to students that they will be creating their own photostory showcasing their favorite season. Detailed Teaching Sequence: (Provide sufficient detail that would enable a substitute to effectively present this lesson. Bulleted statements are preferred) The teacher will first begin by explaining the project in detail to the students. She will inform them that they are to use pictures from home (paper already sent home informing parents of project and asking for pictures to be sent in) to help create a photostory that shows them in their favorite season (i.e. beach, baseball, football, sled riding, Christmas etc.). The teacher will then go through a step by step process of how to use photostory. Each step will be broken down for students so that is it easy to remember. Students will also be provided with a handout which reiterates the instructions. The teacher will go through how she made hers and the steps she took to create it. Students will have the chance to practice with photostory and play around with the software to help them get a feel for it. The teacher will then go over the appropriate use of the computer once more before they begin their project. Once students are completely aware of what needs to be done, they are free to get started. Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities Students will have the opportunity to begin work on their independent photostory. They will make a storyboard of sorts in which they will have to draw an example of what pictures they are including as well as the text they are including on the slides (if any). Once this portion has been checked and OKed by the teacher, the student is able to start working on their photostory using the program on the computer. The teacher will continuously walk around monitoring students progress and providing assistance when needed. The teacher has already scanned pictures that students have brought in and uploaded them to their folder on the computer. Closure: With about five minutes left in class the teacher will stop students and tell them to save their work. It is at this time the teacher will do a short review of the four seasons and what they are as well as the photostory project. Any questions or concerns will be addressed at this time. The teacher will inform students of what will be going on the remainder of the week in terms of the progress of the project as well as the rest of the unit.
