The most popular IT Topics for the year 2010

Key Findings

Cloud computing and mobile were the most popular AnalystPerspectives topics for the year, followed by ITIL and SOA The most popular subjects among ITPro users were certification exam preparation, project management, and Java/Java certifications Beginning Android 2 soared to the number 12 position overall among ITPro subscribers. The most popular iPhone title, Beginning iPhone 3 Development was in position 33 For IT-related search terms, programming topics accounted for 25 of the top 100 positions and searches for Microsoft products and technologies captured 20 positions. The most popular AnalystPerspectives title for 2010 was IT Strategy and Architecture: Creating an Enterprise Model to Support IT Strategic Planning by Butler Group Project management titles took the top two positions in ITPro for the year.

Ovum once again led all analyst firms with 39 of the top 100 titles, followed by Butler Group with 16 and Datamonitor and Books24x7 each with 11 titles. Other interesting titles that moved into the top 100 were: Android Smartphone Marketplace by Mind Commerce. All Eyes on the iPad by Books24x7. Inc. IT Risk Management: Planning Cost-effective Mitigation of Risks to IT Services by Butler Group. Mobile Wallet: Location-based Commerce and Peer-to-Peer Payments by Mind Commerce.

When we looked at most popular titles for the second quarter of 2010, there was a cloud computing title in the 40th position for the year - Cloud Computing: A Practical Approach however this title failed to make it onto the top 100 list for the entire year.

IT-related search terms accounted for nearly of the top 100 search terms for 2010. Programming topics accounted for 25 of the top 100 positions, and searches for Microsoft

The following table highlights the top ten IT-related searches overall, the top programming-related searches, and the top Microsoftrelated searches for the quarter: All IT-related Terms 1. Excel 2. There were 22 terms in the top 100 that were not related to IT or technology. Project Management continues to be one of the top search terms across all Books24x7 collections capturing the number four position in the top 100 search terms for the quarter. The top non-IT related search terms in the top 100 across all collections included: 1. Project Management 2. Leadership 3. Six Sigma 4. Communication 5. Time management 6. PMBOK 7. Management 8. Accounting 9. Finance 10. Customer Service Other interesting search statistics for Q2 2010: The highest ranking IT certification-related terms continue to be CCNA and CISSP, taking the 13th and 15th positions overall. Android moved ahead of iPhone, with Android in the 23rd position and iPhone in the 28th position. Three different SharePoint searches appeared in the top 100: generic SharePoint, SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2007, taking the 5th, 24th and 54th positions respectively. We believe this indicates continued strong interest in SharePoint and the move from 2007 to 2010 versions.
