Graduate Applicants from Abroad

These notes are intended for applicants from abroad who are considering applying to Quaid-i-Azam University in 2011 for 2012 entry as a graduate student. How to apply
The students should apply through the Pakistani Mission Abroad after getting a provisional acceptance of admission from QAU. In case the student is living in Pakistan, he/she should apply through the embassy of his/her own country in Pakistan. The following steps are applicable to all the students applying from abroad: Note: Foreign students before applying for provisional acceptance of admission should provide equivalence certificate duly issued by HEC. More information regarding equivalence certificate may be found at: www.hec.gov.pk/DES 1. Foreign students seeking admission have to apply for a provisional acceptance of admission at QAU. a. University will send a copy of admission letter to Higher Education Commission (HEC). b. HEC confirms and endorses admission to Ministry of Interior. 2. Student approaches the Pakistani Mission abroad for the visa and submits the following documents: a. Application Form (Student Visa Form) b. Photocopy of Passport c. Photograph d. Education Documents e. Admission letter of University 3. The Pakistan Mission abroad forwards all the documents to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad for further processing 4. Ministry of Foreign Affairs forwards all documents to Ministry of Interior for security clearance a. A copy of the same is sent to Ministry of Education/Health b. A copy of the same is sent to HEC 5. Ministry of Interior as per policy to complete all process within 4 weeks and sends visa advice to Mission concerned a. A copy of the same is sent to HEC b. A copy of the same is sent to Ministry of Foreign Affairs 6. HEC sends information of Visa advice by email to: a. The University (QAU) b. Ministry of Education/Health 7. Visa is issued for duration of studies to be renewed annually inclusive of security clearance

Steps for Renewal of Visa

1. It is QAUs responsibility to certify: a. Visa Extension Form b. Bonafied Student (certificate) c. Recommend to extend visa or otherwise 2. The students takes the material to the concerned Passport Office for extension of visa 3. Extension of visa is granted by the Passport Office 4. Intimation to any student leaving the Institution or not remaining a full-time student is sent to the HEC.
