Assalamualaikum and a very good morning to my fellow colleagues and students.

It gives me great pleasure to stand in front of this large group of teachers and pupils as future leaders to speak on a topic that is so important for us in facing future challenges. I am especially delighted to see the presence of creative young people, eager to make a change and drive their vision, and Im glad that this activity affords the opportunity to teachers to exchange views, but also for the young pupils to absorb new thinking and share their own thoughts on books and creativity as an essential part of our path forward. Teachers and dear students, For your information, Kem Membaca 1 malaysia (KM1M) was introduced by the Ministry of Education in 2009 and was launched by the Deputy Prime Minister who happens to be the Minister of Education on the 26th of October 2009 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Wawasan. And, in 2010, on 8th November, Kem Membaca 1 Malaysia was again launched by YB Datuk Ir Dr. Wee Ka Siong, Deputy Ministry of Education at SJKC Tsun Jin Kuala Lumpur where he also launched the Read Satu Negara Malaysia programme or better known as READ 2010 which was later imprinted in the Malaysia book of Records with amazingly 413,595 pupils from 982 different schools participated in the reading activity.

Ever since it was launched, KM1mM has become one of KPMs programmes which is compulsory to be carried out to all schools in Malaysia. This activity is believed to be very beneficial for the pupils especially as a post UPSR and PMR activities after they faced the respective exams. Among the many objectives of this programme are, to give the pupils a post exams activity as the students are no longer study very diligently as before the exam. This activity also enables the students to increase their interest to read more as well as to implant this very beautiful habit throughout their entire lives. This activity also as an effort to make school libraries, state libraries as well as public libraries one of the most visited places by the pupils especially and public generally. Nevertheless, KM1M is one of the many activities in conjunction with language month or better known as Bulan Bahasa which was launched by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka in October. With the theme Pembacaan Pemangkin 1 Malaysia, this activity will be conducted throughout the nation today, 2nd of November 2011 for one whole week. During this period of time, our goal is to make sure all teachers and pupils to read at least one English book, fiction or non-fiction for exactly 35 minutes to reach 2011 seconds. Why is it compulsory in that exact period of

time you may ask. This is because our aim is to get in the Malaysia Book of Records again this year like we did last year. It is hope that all teachers and pupils can work hand in hand to make this activity a huge success not only to this school but to our nation as whole. Thank you.
