6.0 Market analysis
Singapore is widely acknowledged as having one oI the best business
environments in the world one oI the world's most competitive (Institute Ior
Management Development World Competitiveness Yearbook), most proIitable (Business
Environment Risk Intelligence Report), most transparent (Transparency International
Survey), with world-class intellectual property protection and enIorcement (World
Economic Forum Global Competitiveness Report).
O Political factor
Las Vegas Sands will choose Singapore to invest such a big amount is
because Singapore is an enterprise Iriendly country. The government has set up
several organizations in helping the business in a very systematic way. This is
very helpIul to a Ioreign company when they Iirst come to invest, such as:
Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) has its vision to make Singapore
leading global city oI talent, enterprise and innovation. Its mission is to promote
economic growth and create jobs, so as to achieve higher standards oI living Ior
all.
Singapore government is very careIul in allowing the casino operates in
Singapore. They only give out two license oI casino. Singapore government had
announced a new law and regulations when Las Vegas Sands and Genting Casino
go in to Singapore. All Singaporean have to pay S$100 levy iI they want to go in
casino. This is wanted to protect the people in Singapore.
Moreover, Singapore is a country where the enIorcement units are very
eIIicient and with very low corruption rate. Another example is the taxis services
where the drivers collect Iares by using the meter and do not cheat the passengers.
This gives the passengers especially tourist peace oI mind in using taxi service.
Any bad taxi service may hamper the tourism industries. To Las Vegas Sands
Corp., tourism industry is their major consideration iI the company wants to
invest in the country. ThereIore, this is also is become an attractive point to let
Sands invest in Singapore.

O Economic factors
The Singapore economy is an example oI a vibrant Iree-market economy
that is developing at a rapid pace. The per-capita income oI the country is the
highest in ASEAN. In recent years, the Singapore government has invested
heavily in diversiIying the economy. This has led to growth in the tourism
industry, Iinancial services, education, retail and leisure and so on. This will help
the development oI the Las Vegas Sands.
Besides that, currency exchange rate is about US$1.00 to S$1.27 range
lately. The exchange rates do not have too big diIIerence between Singapore and
USA, so the company may easier to estimate the budget and doing the calculation.
To consumers, they will not Ieel that the service and Iacilities charges are too
expensive to them. The customers in Singapore can enjoy the services and
Iacilities in USA with almost the same price. They will Ieel worth Ior it.

O Social factor
Languages in Singapore are not a problem to Las Vegas Corp. Most oI the
Singaporean can speak English. This had removed the communication barriers between
the two countries. Singapore is a high education level, high standard oI living, and high
spending power country. The people require high quality liIe.
To Las Vegas Sands, this three high had become their business opportunities.
High education level will help the company reduce the problems during recruitment. The
high standard oI living and spending power oI Singaporeans are suitable to Las Vegas
Sands because the company provides high quality services and high-end entertainment.
O Technology Factor
The comprehensive IT inIrastructure has encouraged MNC to setup their
regional operation in Singapore. To operate a high-end casino system required a
completed internet service. Singapore has comprehensive inIrastructure setup. It has
become a Iundamental attractiveness Ior Ioreign investment, such as Las Vegas Sands.

11

The comprehensive it inIrastructure make the operation system easier and powerIul.
The database connected between Singapore and USA.
Furthermore, the Singapore government is moving Iorward to an electronic
government era. This will reduce the application system oI the government and
enhances the eIIiciency. It is good news to a Ioreign investment company just like
Las Vegas Sands.
