Calculate the specic weight, specic mass, specic volume and specic gravity of a liquid having a volume of 6m3 and weight of 44KN. Find the total pressure force and the depth of centre of pressure on an inclined plane surface submerged in a liquid. Explain about total pressure and centre of pressure. Derive an expression for force on pipe bend. For steady incompressible ow verify whether the following values of u and v are possible. (i) u = 4xy + y2; v = 6xy + 3x. (ii) u = 2x2 + y2; v = 4xy. Dene potential head, velocity head and datum head. List out the assumptions and limitations of Bernoullis equation. For the velocity profile for laminar boundary layer u/U = 3/2(y/) 1/2(y/)2.Find the boundary layer thickness, shear stress ,drag force and coefficient of dag in terms of Reynolds number. Using Hagen-Poiseuille equation derive an expression for the head loss in a pipe of diameter D and length L in terms of Reynolds number and velocity head. What is Moodys chart? Determine the difference in the elevations between the water surfaces in the two tanks which are connected by horizontal pipe of diameter 300 mm and length 400 m. The rate of flow of water through the pipe is 300 litres/s .Consider all losses and take the value of f=0.008. A 30 cm diameter shaft revolves in a guide bearing of 60 cm long at 500 rpm. If the oil lm bearing is 0.13 mm and viscosity of oil is 0.05N s/m2, nd the power absorbed. Derive the expression for total pressure for curved surface. Explain about centre of pressure. Dierentiate between the Eulerian and Lagrangian methods of representing uid ow. If stream function exists in a ow problem does it imply that velocity potential also exists? Explain. 250 liters per second of water is owing in a pipe having a diameter of 300 mm. If the pipe is bent by 1350 , find the magnitude and direction of resultant force on the bend. The pressure of the water flowing is 400 KN/m2. For the velocity profile for laminar boundary flow u/U = Sin(/2.y/).Obtain an expression for boundary layer thickness, shear stress, drag force on one side of the plate in terms of Reynolds number. Water flows at a steady mean velocity of 1.5 m/s through a 50 mm diameter pipe sloping upwards at 45o to the horizontal. At a section some distance downstream of the inlet the pressure is 700 kpa and at a section 30 m further along the pipe the pressure is 462 kpa. Find the average shear stress at the wall of the pipe and at a radius of 10mm. List the various minor energy losses in a pipe flow. Find the loss of head when a pipe of diameter 150 mm is suddenly enlarged to a diameter of 300 mm .The rate of flow of water through the pipe is 200 lps. Explain classification of notches. Determine the height of a rectangular weir of length 6m to be built across a rectangular channel. The maximum depth of water on the upstream side of the weir is 1.8 m and discharge is 2000 litres /sec.Take Cd =0.6 and neglect end contractions. ***** Max Marks: 70

If 5 m3 of a certain oil weighs 50 KN, calculate specific weight, density and specific gravity of oil. A triangular plate of 1 m base and 1.5 m altitude is immersed in water. The plane of the plate is inclined at 300 with the free water surface and the base is parallel to and at a depth of 2 m from water surface. Determine the total pressure and centre of pressure. Explain about total pressure. What is flow net and what are the uses of flow net. What are the limitations of flow net? Derive an expression for the force exerted by a owing uid on a pipe-bend. A pipe of diameter 500mm carries water at a velocity of 25m/s. The pressures at the points A and B are given as 30.43N/cm2 and 20.5N/cm2 respectively while the datum head at A and B are 28m and 32m. Find the loss of head between A and B. A smooth flat plate of length 5m and width 2m is moving with a velocity of 4 m/s in stationary air of density 1.25 kg/m3 and kinematic viscosity 1.5X10-5 m2/s. Determine thickness of the boundary layer at the trailing edge of the smooth plate. Find the total drag on one side of the plate assuming that the boundary layer is turbulent from the very beginning. Derive the equation to find velocity at a particular point from the centre of an inclined pipe through which laminar flow is there. A 150 mm diameter pipe reduces in diameter abruptly to 100 mm diameter .If the Pipe carries water at 30 litres per second, Calculate the pressure loss across the Contraction. Take the coefficient of contraction as 0.6. A venturimeter with 200 mm at inlet and 100 mm throat is laid with axis horizontal and is used for measuring the flow of oil of specific gravity 0.8.The difference of levels in the U-tube differential manometer reads 180 mm of mercury and 11.52 X 103 kg of oil is collected in 4 minutes. Calculate the discharge coefficient for the meter. Take specific gravity of mercury as 13.6. ***** Max Marks: 70

Define pressure and what are the different units of pressure. What is total pressure? Find the water thrust on one side of the plate and depth of centre of pressure. Dene and explain stream line, path line and streak line in uid mechanics. For the following ow, nd the equation of the streamline passing through (1,1) v= 3xi 3yj Derive Bernoullis equation from Eulers equation of motion. Mention the assumptions made during the derivation. Explain boundary layer thickness, displacement thickness, momentum thickness and energy thickness. A horizontal pipe 50 mm diameter carrying glycerin has shear stress at the pipe boundary as 196.2 N/m2.Find the pressure gradient mean velocity and Reynolds number .Take glycerin density as 1275.3 kg/m3 and = 80.442X10-2 N.s/m2.
