The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 is the primary piece of legislation covering occupational health and safety in the United Kingdom. The Health and Safety Executive is responsible for enforcing the Act and a number of other Acts and Statutory Instruments relevant to the working environment.

The management of health and safety at work regulations 1992

There are 17 procedures inside The management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992. These Regulations give effect as respects Great Britain to Council Directive on the introduction of measures to encourage improvements in the health and safety of workers at the workplace.

Work Place Regulations 1992

The Work Place Regulations Act 1992 is made up of 27 procedures. These Regulations impose requirements with respect to the health, safety and welfare of persons in a workplace.

Control of substances hazardous to health 1994

These Regulations re-enact, with minor modifications, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1994 as amended. The 1994 Regulations imposed duties on employers to protect employees and other persons who may be exposed to substances hazardous to health and also imposed certain duties on employees concerning their own protection from such exposure.

These Regulations impose health and safety requirements with respect to the provision for, and use by, people at work of personal protective equipment. This involves helmets, gloves, harnesses, screens etc.

There are 18 procedures in place for this regulation. These Regulations amend the Fire Precautions (amendment) Regulations 1999. The Regulations give further effect in Great Britain on the introduction of measures to encourage improvements in the safety and health of workers at work concerning the minimum safety and health requirements for the workplace.

This regulation consists of 9 procedures. These Regulations give effect on the minimum safety and health requirements for work with display screen equipment. The regulation requires each employer; to make a suitable and sufficient analysis of workstations and to assess the health and safety risks to which operators or users are exposed in consequence of that use.

In the public services, because these acts are enforced, it provides the members of the public services and members of the public around them with safety in the workplace because they ensure that everything that could cause a problem in the workplace is taken care of and eliminated, like fire hazards, risk hazards etc.
