The Argus SC is the latest generation of the highly successful Argus thermal Imaging camera, it has been specifically designed to help police, security and law enforcement officers to detect the heat signatures of people and objects. The Argus SC can be used in conditions of zero visibility including complete darkness, and smoke. Because the energy being sensed is heat rather than light, the camera can be used in both day and night operations. Due to inherent levels of infrared heat energy, people are easily visible to the Argus SC 24 hours a day, and because Argus SC is very sensitive, detecting temperature variations lower than 0.05c, it is ideal for a series of security applications.

The Argus SC offers a simple-to-operate configuration; it is a robust, self-contained camera, with fully automatic operation. It is lightweight, at less than 3lb, rugged and capable of withstanding harsh environments. The Argus SC uses a high-resolution 320 x 240 pixel, Amorphous Silicon (ASi) microbolometer detector. It has been designed using advanced digital imaging technology, providing the Argus SC with the sharpest picture available, and superior performance. The Argus SC comes with the most advanced features available in any thermal imaging camera on the market. These include:

>

Enhanced Dynamic Scene Colourisation (EDSC) Colourises the thermal image to allow the user to pinpoint the areas of interest within the surveillance scene. Direct Temperature Measurement (DTM) Displays the temperature of objects within a defined area of the thermal scene. See application images on pages 4, 5 and 6. SceneSave Digital Image Capture The Argus SC can capture and store up to 100 images. These can then be viewed, or deleted, using the on screen menu. Using the software provided, the captured images can be downloaded to a suitable laptop/PC and exported in various formats. Dimmable LCD Display The LCD backlight can be switched off to avoid detection. Customisable Start-up Screen Station logos or department names can be added to the start-up screen for asset tracking and/or personalisation of the camera. X2/X4 Zoom Allows the user to zoom in on the scene, from a distance, for improved investigation, identification and surveillance. Time and Date The time and date is displayed at the top of the viewing screen, assisting in evidence processes/user selectable option. ON Screen Set-up Menu The Argus SC allows the end user to adjust various camera settings and review and delete stored images.

Argus thermal imaging technology has come a long way since its first use by the UKs Navy back in the 80s. Today, the cameras are effective tools in border patrol, law enforcement and fire and rescue. Argus cameras were the first to be introduced to the worlds fire industry 30 years ago and are now used by thousands of fire fighters throughout the world. The widespread adoption of the technology has made thermal imaging more accessible to law enforcement departments, to improve surveillance efforts, and provide added protection to officers and security personnel. Thermal imaging cameras are fast becoming an essential part of safety equipment around the world.

F ugitive search When using an Argus SC thermal imaging camera there is no place to hide for fugitives, you can cover large areas quickly using less manpower. In fact, with an Argus SC you will detect a fugitive hiding in the dark before they see you. This can provide critical time to call for back up, creating better opportunities to apprehend the person you are trying to capture. O fficer safety The Argus SC can identify threats to personnel such as hidden suspects, guard dogs, and dangerous obstacles. It can also help determine where your colleagues are located during night operations, providing you with an opportunity to warn them of any potential threats lurking in the dark. B order Surveillance With the Argus SCs ability to see through smoke, illegal migrants cannot use smoke, or the cover of darkness, to obscure their penetration of your border. Argus SC cameras are an essential piece of equipment for border control personnel with the ability to operate night or day, detect someone hiding in foliage and see in various weather conditions; nothing will get past you. S earch and rescue Argus SC thermal imaging can view large areas of land or water, searching rapidly and requiring less manpower than with conventional methods. Searches can be conducted efficiently during darkness or full sunlight, and in a variety of weather conditions. Thermal imagers can be used whether the search is carried out on foot, or from vehicles or boats. D rug interdiction operations Argus SC cameras detect and reveal the heat created by the powerful lighting systems used to grow marijuana indoors. It will clearly see which building in a row of identical buildings is generating the greatest heat a clue to the possible location of a marijuana processing. C overt surveillance operations Thermal imagers can immediately highlight if a vehicle has recently moved (hot tyres, brakes and engine heat reflection). Unlike image intensifier technology, thermal imagers are totally unaffected by light. Consequently they offer superior surveillance capability in an urban situation.

C ollecting evidence Evidence that has recently been hidden or thrown away can be found much quicker using Argus thermal imaging technology. If a gun or knife has been held or used it will give off a heat signature, providing the user of the Argus SC camera with a clear view of its location, day or night. R outine patrols Officers can quickly and effectively scrutinise between homes and buildings, see into dark garages, entranceways and under vehicles. They can scan car parks, where they can see suspects hiding between cars, and can identify vehicles that were recently driven. When used in total darkness, officers can go virtually undetected, as they search for prowlers, peeping toms, and other criminal misbehaviour. T raining and assessing Police officers, fire fighters and military personnel are all required to operate in low, or no visibility, environments. By using an Argus SC, instructors can easily view and assess trainees in true to life night operational training procedures. C ollision investigation Argus SC thermal imaging cameras can help at various stages of a collision investigation. It can help locate the collision, identify the number of vehicles or passengers, as well as track the length of skid marks for the investigation team. You can even locate missing parts of the vehicle or missing passengers in the surrounding area. M arine patrol The Argus SC can assist coast guards in collision avoidance situations particularly the pitch black of night or in fog. In poor visibility the camera can be used to identify objects and can be used as a navigational aid in unfamiliar port entry, and by detecting heat sources in the water it can help save lives in man overboard situations. D etect hidden compartments Argus thermal imagers can identify hidden compartments in walls and vehicles. They could even see concealed objects through clothing. This ability could help you to detect hiding places for illegal migrants, drugs etc. F inding buried objects Thermal imagers will often be able to detect recently disturbed ground, helping you detect buried material or human remains.

F orensic evidence If officers disturb a burglar who either absconds from the scene evading capture or is indeed captured, it is possible that if used immediately the Argus SC can help forensic teams locate evidence. Heat signatures left by parts of the burglars body, may still be evident for some time*, contact on walls, doors, handles, furniture etc, can be viewed and the image captured by the Argus SC.
* Time dependent on body heat temperature, length of time contact has been made and the material touched.

Vehicle Storage Mount and Battery Charger Provides secure storage with instant access for the camera and charging facilities for the battery pack. T ransmitter Battery Pack Allows the transmission of the thermal image from the camera to other personnel, way from the incident, via a radio link. Receiver Station and Kit The Receiver Station is a PC based system that allows the viewing of the thermal image transmitted from the camera. The Receiver Station is available as complete solution (PC, receiving card and antenna) or as a kit (receiving card and antenna) External Power and Video Adaptor A module to replace the battery pack to externally power the camera and allow live digital video to be viewed and the camera externally powered. H ard Carry Case An alternative to the soft carry case. M ounting Bracket The Mounting Bracket provides a solution for the permanent fixing of the camera to any flat surface.

O ccupancy evaluation During a vehicle pursuit, if the occupier/occupiers abandon the car and continue to run on foot, officers can point the camera inside the vacated vehicle to determine how many occupants were seated in the car, thus continuing the chase with the knowledge of the number of occupants they are chasing.
