Security Aware Development For this piece of coursework you are expected to design a secure computer and network system that closely follows the network security requirements that you have learned in the course: CASE: A Private Educational Institute of Technology A private educational institute of technology in Singapore, PIT Singapore, plans to implement a state of art wireless computer communication network environment for its newly acquired city campus. Currently, the institute has a very insecure data communication network because there is no security. As you have designed most of the other institutions secure wireless network infrastructure, the Dean of the Institute contracted you to design a secure wireless network that will cope with the current and the future demands. Some facts about the current network at the Institute: The proposed network architecture is to cater for the following city campus facilities. The institute has a four-storey block. Each storey has biometrics security devices at the main entrance. The first storey consists of an administration and accounts department. This storey will have a server farm data centre. This data centre will house a minicomputer computer (a UNIX computer) that processes all accounting data, an application server to accommodate students data and to provide student support, an email server to provide Lotus Note email application service, an Intranet server, a Web server and a management information system server for remote and all internet access. The second storey has ten classrooms of 30 seats. Each class room must have a computer and wireless access points. The faculty, staff and students may communicate with each other via electronic mail, and must have access to internet. The third storey has three IBM compatible laboratories, two multimedia laboratories and a gaming/animation laboratory. The two multimedia laboratories and the gaming/animation laboratory have to be equipped with the latest multimedia tools and technology and gaming and animation software through a separate server exclusively meant for them. Each laboratory must contain 40 personal computers and all the systems have to be connected by internet. All the laboratories also have wireless access points. The fourth storey will have three staff rooms that accommodate 10 staff members in each room. Each staff member must be given a computer and all the systems must be connected to internet. This storey also has a meeting room with Voice over IP (VoIP) and facilities for Video Conferencing with other University partners abroad.

Submission details To be submitted at the lecture of week 10 to your lecturer in class. As part of the design of your secure computer and network system, you will have to discuss your considerations of your design decisions. In particular, the security implications and how you are planning to address them. You should present your results by week 10 in a report containing A short description of what are the vulnerabilities of the present system. Design of a secure computer and network system and reasoning. Penetration testing strategy and implications. Analysis and discussion (including reflection). A disk copy of your report.
(Word Limit: 2,500 words) Note that this coursework tests your ability to design a secure computer and network system. Therefore, more marks can be awarded for correct design and successful penetration testing rather than incomplete and unconsidered secure features of your system.
Note: Assignment submission will be checked against detection software and work found to have been plagiarized will be referred to Plagiarism Committee.
