Q. When should I check in at the airport? A. Please check in at the airport at least 2 hours prior to the departure time of flight schedule. (some routes need to be 3hrs ex. from/to U.S.....)

Q. What kind of documents I have to prepare for check-in? A. Valid ticket, passport, entry and/or transit visa and necessary vaccination certificate are necessary documents for check-in.

Baggage Information 1. Q. How much free baggage can I check in? A. The checked baggage free allowance varies according to your destination and the class you travel in. Please refer to our Baggage Information for further details. 2. Q. How much do I need to pay for the excess baggage charge ? A. All excess baggage (weight or piece) will be charged at the applicable fare with local currency. Please contact our Ticketing or Airport office at your departure city for more details. 3. Q. How much cabin baggage can I bring on board? A. Passengers are allowed to carry one piece of cabin baggage for free (sum of the outside dimensions not exceed 45 inches), as well as small quantity of duty-free items. First and Dynasty class passengers are entitled for an extra service. Please refer to our Baggage Information for further details. 4. Q. What kind of portable electronic devices can I bring on board? A. For flight safety reasons, portable electronic devices such as cellular phones, remote control devices (including toys), FM radio are not allowed to be used on board at all times. Please refer to our Passenger Notice for full details. 5. Q. Can I bring hair spray on board? A. You are allowed to bring limited quantities of personal medicine and toiletries (such as hair spray) on board, however, still have to follow the instructions from the local security check authorities. Please refer to our Baggage Information for a list of the dangerous goods you should not bring on board.

Q. Are pets allowed in the cabin? A. Pets (Dog, Cat and Bird) need to be crated and travel as checked baggage in the cargo compartment. Please check with our Reservation or Ticketing office at your departure city for more details.

Q. Cabin Baggage A. All passengers are restricted to carry one piece of cabin baggage suitable for placing in closed overhead rack or under passenger's seat provided that its maximum total dimension shall not exceed 115cm (56cm/L x 23cm/W x 36cm/H). These dimensions include wheels, handles and side pockets, the weight of the cabin baggage is limited of up to 7 kilos. First Class passengers are subject to the above limitations and may allowed to bring one more piece on board. Dynasty (Business) passengers are subject to the above limitations and may be allowed one more piece subject to the storage availability. In addition to cabin baggage, you can also carry the following personal effects such as : a purse, an overcoat, a laptop computer or small package of duty free items on board. Baby buggies and adult wheelchairs should be checked in as hold baggage.

Q. Free Checked Baggage Allowance A. 1.Passenger travel to / from the USA, Canada and Central and South America. (1).First / Dynasty Class Two pieces of checked baggage, each piece with a maximum dimension (Length x Width x Height) of 62 inches (158cm), weight of each baggage shall not exceed 32 kilos (70lbs). (2).Economy Class Two pieces of checked baggage, the total dimension will be 107 inches (273cm). The largest piece may not exceed 62 inches (158cm), weight of each baggage is limited to 23kilos (50 lbs) for tickets issued or reissued on and after April 15, 2008. (3).Infant Passenger One piece of checked baggage with a maximum dimension (Length x Width x Height) of 45 inches (115cm), and one fully collapsible stroller or infant's carrying basket. (4).The weight of each baggage shall not exceed 32 kilos (70lbs). 2.Passenger travel to / from areas other than the USA, Canada and Central and South America. (1).40 kilos (88 lbs) in First Class (2).30 kilos (66 lbs) in Dynasty (Business) Class (3).20kilos (44 lbs) in Economy Class (4).Infant: Infants not occupying a seat are entitled to one piece of free baggage allowance not exceeding 115cm (45") in size and 10kilos (22lbs) in weight, and one fully collapsible stroller or infant's carrying basket.

Q. Heavy Baggage on Australian Flights A. On our flights to Australia, please take note for the following information: (1).There is no restriction for individual bag weighing up to 27 kilos after the Excess Baggage Charge has been paid. (2).Individual bag weighing between 27.1 to 32 kilos, will be marked as "Heavy Baggage" and the actual weight must be clearly written on the bag tag and passenger have to pay the Excess Baggage Charges in advance. (3).If individual bags weighing in excess of 32 kilos must be repacked

10. Q. Excess Baggage Charge

A. All excess baggage either by weight or piece will be charged at the applicable rate. Please contact our Ticketing or Airport Office at your departure city for exact rates. 11. Q. Portable Electronic Devices A. The use of certain carry-on portable electronic devices is restricted as they may interfere with the aircraft navigation and control systems. We would appreciate if you could refrain from using any portable electronic equipment while the aircraft is taxiing, during takeoff, or during approach and landing. For safety reason, cellular phones, any wireless electronic devices, remote control devices (including toys), and FM radios are banned at all times on board. Other forms of electronic devices such as MD, DVD, VCD, MP3, computer CD-ROMS, mini discs, camcorders and CD players may be used on board, however, these items are strictly prohibited to use below 10,000 feet of the flight level. The duty Cabin Chief will make an announcement to remind you of this safety requirement.

12. Q. Valuables A. China Airlines assume no liability for Fragile or Perishable items, Personal Medicines, Money, Key, Artwork, Audio or Video Equipment, Mobile Phone, Laptop Computer, Jewelry, Precious Metals, Silverware, Negotiable Papers, Securities or other Valuables, Business Documents, Passports and other Identification Documents, or Samples, which are included in the passenger's checked baggage. 13. Q. Dangerous Goods A. For safety and security reasons, dangerous goods such as those listed below, must not be carried in passenger's baggage (checked or unchecked): (1).Explosives : such as ammunition, dynamite and fire works (2).Compressed gases (flammable, non-flammable or poisonous): such as butane gas, tear gas, and fire extinguisher (3).Flammable Liquids : such as paints, thinner, petroleum products, and alcohol (4).Flammable Solids : such as matches, unprocessed fibers, and sodium easily ignited (5).Oxidizing Substances : such as household bleach powder and peroxides (6).Toxic Substances : Poisons such as arsenic, cyanides, insecticides, weed-killers (7).Radioactive Materials : such as uranium (8).Corrosives : such as liquid mercury, battery acids, and wet cell batteries (9).Miscellaneous : Any other substances which covers all hazardous materials which is not covered by the other 8 classes, such as large quantity of dry ice, and magnetized materials Medicines and toiletries in limited quantities which are necessary for your journey, such as hair sprays (not exceed 250g), perfumes and medicines containing alcohol, may be carried on board, however, must obtained approval from the local airport security check authorities. 14. Q. Delayed / Damaged baggage A. (1).Baggage Liability Limitations Based on the ticket contract and governing tariff, our liability for loss, delay, or damage to baggage is limited unless a higher value is declared in advance and additional charges are paid. For most international travel (including domestic portions of international journey), the liability limit is approximately US$20 per kilo for checked baggage and US$400 per passenger for unchecked baggage. (2).Delayed Baggage If your baggage does not come out from the conveyor belt, please ensure to file a report to the Carrier concerned or Ground Handling Agent at the Lost and Found

Services Counter located at the Arrival Hall, prior to your customs clearance. Our staff or handling agent will try their best to assist accordingly. (3).Damaged Baggage If your baggage is found damaged, please ensure to file a report to the Carrier concerned or Ground Handling Agent at the Lost and Found Services Counter located at the Arrival Hall, prior to your customs clearance. Our staff or handling agent will arrange repairing services or provide necessary assistance accordingly. (4).Notice of Your Baggage Claim Upon completion of the baggage claim description which you received from Lost and Found Services Desk, please return the form to us by mail or fax as indicated in your Property Irregularity Report, together with copies of your passenger tickets, baggage claim tags, excess baggage tickets and purchase receipts. If you have private insurance coverage for your baggage, a claim should also be lodged with your insurance company. We will be glad to provide all the necessary information to your insurance company upon their request. 15. Q. Security Checks A. Security checks are now carried out at every airport and local authorities may temporarily remove your personal items of potential danger to the aircraft or its passengers, such as pocket knife, scissors, swords, daggers or flare pistols etc. On our flights, these items will be stowed in a special envelope and forwarded as checked baggage to China Airlines destination. Please contact our baggage services staff or our agent at airport for collection. To avoid possible delays, we suggest that you pack such items in your checked baggage.

Baggage Liability Information 1. Q. What happens if my baggage got delayed or damaged? A. Based on the ticket contract and governing tariff, Carriers liability for any loss, delay or damage to baggage is limited unless a higher value is declared in advance and additional charges are paid. Please ensure to file a report with Baggage Services Counter located at the Arrivals Hall prior to customs clearance. Please refer to Baggage Information for more details. 2. Q. How to track my delayed baggage after reporting to your staff? A. We enter all the baggage irregularities into the World Tracer Tracing System. Hence, you just need to remember your file reference number and then dial to airport Lost and Found Services Desk for results. 3. Q. What will happen if my valuables in my checked baggage are lost? A. China Airlines assume no liability for any loss of, damage to or delay in the delivery of any valuable items which was contained either in checked or cabin baggage. Please check out our Baggage Information for more details. 4. Q. Who should I contact if I left my possessions on the aircraft? A. Please contact local Baggage Services staff or Airport Baggage Services Desk immediately for assistance, or make a phone call to local Lost and Found office for necessary assistance.
