MGCY STATEMENT FOR MINISTERIAL INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE

Straight Talk 2: Ministerial interactive dialogue on "strengthening major groups participation in implementation" (closed meeting of Ministers and heads of delegations with the Major Groups) Thank you, Mr. Chair. Almost every decision that has been made here affects the lives of millions of children and youth, therefore we are not only concerned about the future, we are concerned with today. We care. We care about our world, our lives, our hopes and dreams, and it is our responsibility to be active participants in building a better present and greater future. Major Groups can, and should, play a central role in monitoring the implementation of decisions, especially after Rio. As Children and Youth, we urge stakeholder participation be an indicator of successful implementation of this policy . We also offer our insights and expertise to advance sustainable development decisions. Major groups will hold governments accountable. Because we do have our ear to the ground, we will make sure that the promises made take shape. If they do not, we will address our concerns to our governments. Rio+20 is coming at a particularly pertinent time - as we face a number of tipping points, a renewal of ideas, commitment and action is required. As youth, we are dedicated to achieving strong outcomes for Rio+20, not only by providing constructive input into the process but also by taking action within our regions, countries and communities. We offer the perspective of voices on the ground and we will be making these voices heard. Hence, as we go to Rio, we should establish an ongoing structural dialogue between us, states and the bureau on how this participation at Rio+20 takes shape. We ask to be involved at local and national level in the national preparatory process, but also at regional and global level at the different events making up the process. As the Major Group of Children and Youth, we are eager to participate, contribute and commit. We aim at building productive partnerships with governments. Action MUST be taken, so we may ALL have a sustainable future. Let our vision be world-embracing. Thank you.
