My talk is on personal revelation So. What is personal revelation?

It is something that is not reserved for bishops patruiarcjs, and general authroirtes. it is something that every single person can receive and something every single person here has received before. Revelation, most simply defined, is the way which heavenly father helps us to know him, to know his son, to know jhis plan. It is the way which heavenly father helps us personally live and learn the gospel, and make it back to him. How does He do this? Most of the time it is thru the Holy Ghost. Yeah, sometimes we may get lucky and actually have an angel or get to speak with God, but most of us will get it from the promptings of the Holy Ghost. My favorite talk ever was a talk by pres eyring. It was called remembrance and gratitude. We all know that remembrasnce is pretty much the most common word in the scripures, it shows up in pretty much every chapter in the book of mormon. Eyrings talk is great because in it he proposes this idea: That the BIGGEST problem for saints through out all of history and today is that they dont remember the feeling of the holy ghost. And I totally believe this is true. Im pretty sure that everyone in this room has felt the holy ghost, really strongly before. When your heart start to beaat fast, and you feel all warm and fuzzy and you just get knocked over by it. Its pretty awesome.We all have that one expereience where you were sitting a meeting listenting to a talk, or reading your scripitures, and you just got hit by a wave of the Holy Ghost. I know ive been listening to testimnoies borne, or reading my scripures when suddenly I wil just be feel the spirit and be like Dang, this is true. I love my savior, I love the church, I dont care what satan tempts me with tomorrow, I will be able to be strong because the church Is freakin true. A way that I really like to describe how the spirit feels to me is tasting of the love of god, and being embraced by his love. Because when I feel the spriit I really feel that. This feeling the spirit is a great example of personal revelation. the holy ghost is bearing personal witness to us that he esxists and loves us. The holy ghost is called in the scriptures a great gift from god, and it truly is a great gift. Now imagine back to president eyrings talk. If we could just REEMEMBER how amazing the spirit feels, we would never desire to sin. Seriously. King Benajmin gives us a great promise in mosiah 4:11-12. Ill paraphrase it beacsuse its really long, but it reads that once you have tasted of the love of God, then if we promise to always remember his greatness and your own nothingness, than we will always be filled wiuth the love of god. Listening to the sacrament prayer today, I was thinking about what I was going to talk about, and seriously, personal revelation , I heard the phrase not quoting it

verbatim if we do always remember him ,than we will always have his spiriti to be with us. Amen So its on us all we have to do is constantly remember what the spirit feels like (easier said than done) and we will always have his spirit to be with us. And therefore wil never want to sin. This reminds me of a story I heard, told by marion g Romney I think. He said that his father would watch Wilford Woodruff during the sacrament prater, and the entire time that the sacrament was being passed out Wilford Woodruff was moving his lips saying I do rememeber you. I will remember you. This was a really powerful image to me.

so back to revelation. we all receive it, but how often is revelation something that we reveive? Elder eyring read a poem once, and this is the poem.

Some murmur when the sky is clear And wholly bright to view, If one small speck of dark appear In their great heaven of blue
This poem is just illustrating how important perspective is when talking about revelation from god. Its like the whole glass half full galss half empty lkind of thing. I thin kwe each receive a lot more personal revelation in oiur lives than we each even know, but the problem is that we often attribute this personal revelation to our own wisdom instead of giving the credit to the lord. Paul taught this to the corinthians in corinthians chapter 2 v 11 13
For what man aknoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God bknoweth no man, cbut the dSpirit of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which mans awisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost bteacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual

an example of placing our success on our own wisdom when perhaps it should go to god is I was taking a math test this week, and I was stuck on this one proble. I spent a soldi hour staring at the problem trying to figure it out, and finally, it just made sense and clicked for me. Disclaimer: im not trying to say I receieved divine inspiration for that, im just using it as an example of something that you could easily view as being help ffrom god, or my own brain power.

Elder Hales said that we receive revelation much more frequently than we realize or acknowledge. And the more we acknowledge the revelation we receive, the stronger our testimonies get.

How to receive revelation: all use holy ghost Enlightenment: having your mind suddenly opened or wrap around something. Example would be like on the math test I studied for. Scriptures: scriptures combined with the holy ghost will answer you Instant recall: remember something Audible voicve Dreams or visions Visitations Promptings/feelings: good/warm or a stupor of thought

Warnings aabout revelation: Do not overuse revelation! always look for answers first, do not consult him on mundane things d and c 6:12 trifle not with good things
