Rashtriya Vigyan Chalchitra Mela and Competition-2012

Introduction Vigyan Prasar (VP) is a national institute for science and technology communication established in 989 under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It promotes and propagates a scientific and rational outlook in the society, nurtures interest in science, encourages creativity and develops capacity for informed decision making. Vigyan Prasar is proud to announce Second Rashtriya Vigyan Chalchitra Mela (Science Film Festival) and Competition to be organised during the Indian Science Congress 202. It is open to all producers, individuals as well as production agencies. Media centers, television channels, media schools are also encouraged to participate. Objective This competition is organised to felicitate, nurture, recognize and encourage science film producers on their outstanding work. This competition will bring out the best science and technology video films produced in the country and set a bench mark for excellence. Venue The venue of the the mela is Regional Museum of Natural History, Achrya Vihar, RRL, Bhubaneshwar, 7503 and Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, KIIT University, Bhubeneswar, 75024, Orrisa.

Categories of Entries A. Popular Science Films (duration more than 20 mts). B. Short Films on Science and Technology (duration less than 20 mts).

C. Animation and Graphic films on Science and Technology. General Conditions for Entry in all categories (i) The competition is open to all Media Centres, Private producers and Educational Institutions in India. (ii) The film should have been produced between 0 October 200 and 30 September 20. (iii) VP produced films can participate but will not be eligible for cash awards. (iv) The duration of the Film for category 4B should be less than 20 minutes. (v) Applicants can send any number of entries in each category. (vi) Entries made in any Indian languages are entertained. However, film submitted for scrutiny should in either English or in Hindi. Film produced in other languages may either be dubbed or sub-titled in English. (vii) Vigyan Prasar will have the right to telecast the awarded film once and retain the programme CD. (viii) It is essential to fill all the columns in the entry form, failing which an entry is liable to be rejected. (ix) Separate entry form should be filled for each entry accompanied by the following: 2

a.

One copy of the film in DVD or CD using PAL 625/50 standard.

b. A copy of the script in English or in Hindi c. Undertaking that the film does not violate the copyright/ intellectual property law should be given. In case such a violation is reported at a later date the awardee will be held liable for any legal consequences and have to return the cash prize, trophy and certificate and will be barred in future from participating in the competition.

d. Soft & hard copy of synopsis with 50 words about the programme. e. Two stills with identification label at the back of photographs.

Last Date for Receipt of Entries All entries for the competition should reach Science Film Festival Cell, Vigyan Prasar, A-50 Institutional Area, Sector 62, NOIDA, UP 20307 by 5 pm on or before  November 20. Awards a. b. c. d. Golden Beaver Award consisting of cash ` ,00,000/- trophy and certificate. Silver Beaver Award consisting of cash ` 50,000/- trophy and certificate. Special Jury Award consisting of cash ` 40,000/- trophy and certificate. Special Award for best entry by student(s) consisting of cash ` 30,000/- trophy and certificate. 3

Vigyan Prasar reserves the right to reject any entry on technical or any other ground without assigning any explanation. Screening and Result a. b. The jury of national eminence will judge the entries. Short listed entries would be announced on 30 November 20. (not more than 0 per each category) and film makers will be informed about the result individually. A three day science film festival cum seminar on "The future of S&T films" will be held at Bhubaneswar between 04 to 06 January 202. Short listed producers would be invited to participate in the same. One representative (director or producer) can participate in the festival. VP will provide travel reimbursement limited II AC fare by shortest route and lodging boarding will also be provided to ONE participant per entry. Screening of short listed entries would be done at Regional Meuseum of Natural History. Award Ceremony will be held at KIIT, Bhubaneswar in the Indian Science Congress on 06 January 202.
