BIOCOMPACT 750

The BIOCOMPACT 750 is a package biological wastewater treatment unit developed for the purification of domestic wastewater of houses with low occupancy. The compact units are round, made of a corrosion free PolyEthylene (PE) and have a capacity of 750 litres/day. The patented purification principle relies on the particular BIOROCK stone fiber media. The unit has unlike all traditional purification techniques, a few unique features: it operates by gravity without electricity and is able to handle intermittent loadings and standstill periods up to a few weeks. The BIOCOMPACT units are designed to purify pre-settled domestic wastewater, free of oils and greases (pre-treatment). The treated effluent from the BIOCOMPACT units can be discharged to surface or ground water, infiltrated or reused for various purposes. The effluent quality guarantees are valid provided that the influent remains within the nominal design rates. The units are supplied with an extensive operational and maintenance manual. The BIOCOMPACT units are easy to operate and to maintain. Except from emptying the pre-separation tank, the only maintenance is the pre-filter and first filtration layer of specific BIOROCK cubes in bags. They can be either cleaned or replaced. The installation depth can be increased with an optional extension set.The cover is made of PE and can be locked. It holds one person, but no traffic load. Each unit has 2 holes for hoisting or usable for anchoring the unit in high water conditions. There are various BIOCOMPACT units and options available.

Working and design principles Pre-separation tank The raw domestic effluent will flow (by gravity) into a septic tank to be pre-treated.The septic tank will act as a combined primary settling tank and sludge digester. The septic tank should have at least two separate compartments and a volume of 2-3 m3, the first compartment will allow settling of coarse minerals and organic suspended solids and the second compartment will act as a finer clarifier and oil and grease separator. It is recommended that the settled effluent from the second compartment passes through a BIOROCK pre-filter before entering the BIOCOMPACT unit. BIOCOMPACT 750 unit The BIOCOMPACT 750 is a compact double stage aerobic biological filter. The BIOROCK media acts as an efficient filter for suspended solids and is an excellent support for the micro-organism and bacteria, which are responsible for dissolved pollution removal. The first filtration stage of the unit is filled with square stone fiber blocks in removable bags, lying on a horizontal layer of patented double density BIOROCK stone fiber. The upper density is less dense than the lower density to allow better penetration of the bacteria, therefore enhancing the biological filtration capacity of the unit. The first stage acts mainly as a primary filter and allows a pre-biological degradation. The filtered effluent from the first stage is oxidized in the intermediate aeration stage, full of specific oxidation plastic rings. Subsequently the oxidized water flows on the second filtration stage of the unit, made of two different sizes of loose stone fiber cubes, where the polishing filtration and biological treatment is achieved. To ensure a sufficient oxygen supply to the aerobic process, the intermediate layer of oxidation rings is to be vented by either a natural chimney air extraction process or by a wind or electrical fan.
