Using Data
The purpose of this project, fostering data-driven instruction, was focused on a new goal of teacher collaboration. Therefore in September we set out to meet regularly (PLCS) in order to examine state-provided data, create new benchmark assessments that provided additional information, and nally to create learning activities for individual students based on the teams analysis.

Research Conclusions:
Establish the importance of the test, perhaps through processes that enable teachers to make better use of class and individual results to diagnose needs and plan future instruction Align curriculum content with test content, provided that the assessment is based on thoughtful standards Teach test-wiseness skills. Four components were deemed essential: following directions, reading questions carefully, understanding test language & using time effectively Provide test preparation within the curriculum throughout the year instead of as intensive cram sessions beginning a few weeks before the test Provide opportunities for practice in a standardized test environment. Score these practice tests for use in analyzing student strengths and weaknesses, and provide time for students to review problem items. (Protheroe 2001)

This project focused on one issue, student performance, and one grade, freshmen year.
